  • We are building a 4.3 vortec V6 for my daily driver 2000 S10 Xtreme. Rebuild includes higher compression and a big comp cam. But first, the EFI needs to be thrown in the trash, and a marine intake needs to be modified to work. Throttle body adapters are available on ebay, as are the billet distributors. As more parts come in, we will share the progress of this build. But for now, if you want to upgrade your EFI, its a very easy swap.

    I got the MSD billet distributor on mine with FAST standalone elderbrock intake manifold 76 mm turbo with a fully built long block

    Also not all 4.3 factory distributors are plastic. Some are aluminum.

    Everyone thinks that the "Restrictor" is for restricting how much air flows in and "robs Power" what it actually does is Corrects the direction of the air flow into the intake manifold by reducing turbulence on the front areas where you see the EGR tube sticking out inside the manifold. As the air rushes in it creates a negative pressure zone under the Throttle blade to allow the air to become less turbulent. As for the Cylinder heads they honestly are terrible casted and Machined from Factory and they really wake up when properly ported and De Shrouded on the combustion chambers, how ever they do run very well though for what they are. I my self own a S-10 Pick up and it's a very quick truck for being bone stock. I do head porting for as living and had flow bench tested a spare throttle body before and after the mod and they actually do flow better with out the restrictor in there however higher air speeds it creates a TON of turbulence inside the manifold right there.

      Thanks for the info, I would have assumed the "restrictor" was there to save the company money making an already on the shelf throttle body smaller for less displacement. Worked for too many years and seen too many times when they just modify an existing part to work. but flow tests dont lie. did you flow test on a factory manifold or a marine intake? i would be curious how they compare, side by side, there are some differences, but largely very similar in design.

    that's not a restrictor on the throttle body its a diverter to make sure equal egr air flow makes it to each cylinder without it the rear cylinders can run lean because they pull less egr gas

    You see that 2nd bolt on number 5 cylinder? You see that gap Crack that runs down the entire length? That is what is wrong with your s10 if you have a intake manifold gasket code. It will grow into a fuel pressure regulator problem and eventually a spider failure and worst, oil and water will eventually mix. It's a common problem that hasn't been addressed. My s10 had the same problem. Check yours. That's your vacuum leak.

    i got a kit that converted my poppet valves to real injectors btu, skinney weird little ones so they fit the poppet holes

    I know everybody likes to put down the stock injection system on the 4.3. But I can tell you from experience where are the engine came from it was not serviced well 02 4.3 W has 280K. Engine is spotless inside. Original injectors lasted 220K still has the original distributor no issues. My 03 4.3 X has 180K spotless inside original injectors. That distributor at 60K. All in all they are not perfect but they are great engines at work and a lot of makes in there a lot worse engines out there. I have been thinking about doing the Marine intake and just don’t know if it’s really worth the upgrade. Wish you well with your build

      for sure, i love my s10, it currently has 250k. i swapped the engine at 230k because it was starting to show low oil pressure. My injection lasted 230, but was leaking bad inside the intake from the regulator for a while. i upgraded to the new style and it runs better, but has little room for building more power. this is the reason for the intake swap. will have more updates on the build this spring if all goes well.

    If you pull the throttle blade off an ls with the same throttle body it doesn’t have the restriction on the blade.. then you don’t have to fill the holes.. also FYI.. the small Middle hole you also riveted? That is supposed to be there. If you looked before taking it off it is just a hole.

    Saw this video. I also have a marine intake base that I plan to swap in on my s10. Good to know there's an adaptor for this. Being that it has been 6 months since this video was posted, just curious to know if everything went well with the project?

      build has been going slowly, availability of parts is a problem, but its also my personal daily drivers engine build. Working on getting my drag truck done for the track this year

    I`ve always been curious about the design of this intake manifold and why does it have a burm/hump in front of the runners and the runnners are far from being close to the same size seam tese wold restric air flow? The 2 center runners on both sides of these intakes are SMALLER than the front and rear runners? Any answers out there? Thanks Rod

    Were did you get the complete intake? Is it available for the 5.7 v8?

      there are many vortec intakes available for the V8. edelbrock and GMPP makes new intake manifolds, and the marine intakes i have seen use conventional 4bbl throttle bodies. Good luck finding what you need.

    I would love to do that to my Chevy truck would I be able to do that and get away with the stock computer because I can't do any modifications to that or anything and is that possible

      My issue is that I live in California so I'm hoping I can do that with my stock leave everything stock and go with the marine intake manifold is that possible and is there anything I need to do with the engine and it will work with the stock fuel lines
