Thanks for answering my question on the double take wrenches! Curiosity satisfied!! And that Stanley utility knife!!! What a fun project for my boys to add to their tool boxes. You took that $5 box cutter and turned it into an heirloom piece! So classy!
Hi Christina! You know the casting on that knife is very nicely done... I do prefer non-retractable knives to work with but you have to be carful reaching for one! LOL Thanks so much Christina!!!!!!!!

Even when I was young I saw that fixed blade utility knives had the edge over retractable utility knifes for blade holding rigidity, but the way I use a utility knife it's just not sensible for me. I don't work at a work bench often, I don't carry a sheath or wear a leather apron with a dedicated section for an utility knife, I'm here , there, and then somewhere else always throwing it in a pocket so a retractable type is my only option. That said what you've done with that Defender & this Stanley is BEAUTIFUL, & I'll be on the lookout for a deal on a Defender to do up maybe in Maroon or Red accents & made a sheath & keep in top of my toolbox.
Hi Ronald! You're right, the fixed is great to use but dangerous to carry! =) I will be doing a utility knife review on Monday! Hope you enjoy! Thanks!!!

On the other side of that coin if you're like me you're so used to having a super crowded work space you look at all the other stuff around the workspace in the video and just get it. Tons of older projects sitting around mixed with future projects.
Hi scout, what a great job on the 199e you did.if stanley did a finish like that it would be 20$,lol .I noticed it didn't have the triangular metal guard ,that stanley UK supplied, in its day more people must have been cut trying to remove and replace that thing, did it myself a few times ,eventually made a leather pouch for it ,still have that knife from the 1960 s, liked the marionette by the way. Take care.Stuart.uk
Thanks. I’ve always been fascinated with puppets, marionettes and figurines. If you look at my video labeled my workshop you’ll get an idea of my obsession. Also that orange clear reminded me of an old orange tootsie pop. Great video.
The orange against the polished alloy looks like a gold colour and it looks like a presentation knife. Something given to a salesman for 100,000 knives sold. I like it. Well done. You should be a final finish designer for some of these tool companies to show off their tools and give them some class and for the users to look after instead of just throwing them in a battered toolbnox when finished using them. Perhaps people would be more appreciative of the tools they buy and use instead of thinking of them as a comodity.
Beautiful knife! With quality starting to creep back into tool lineups these days a large company like Milwaukee, Stanley or Snapon could sure use your advisory skills to enhance sales. As I've mentioned before in a comment I've seen people trade in perfectly good tools just to rebuy the same tool with a higher quality finesh with color. Black chrome, nickel full polish, with nearly every color handle in the rainbow. Who knows... Maybe Milwaukee will seek out your advisory services after seeing your videos. One of my biggest complaints buying tools is the lack of quality. Your eye for quality is second to none in my opinion but your experimentation with color is really grabbing my attention. I admit that I've stopped your videos numerous times to look at something in the background. LOL
Hi Chris! Every few years companies will put out special editions or remake vintage tools and they are nice but usually never sell enough to be profitable. The money makers are the tools made overseas that Dewalt or Stanley can slap their name on and make a super quick profit just by selling them no manufacturing needed... Many tool manufacturers today are just retailers.. Turning over goods for a fast profit. It's a shame. Americans have become addicted to cheap crap! LOL Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice job Scout.👏 Makes me wonder what it would be like to go down a store aisle and see all the tools looking as nice as this from the factory. Next one jeweled?
That’s really nice, perhaps if you wanted to display it, you could take the sharp edge off of a blade and polish that as well. That would look really neat especially as it’s not a retractable blade.

Wow Scout you keep outdoing yourself I would have really liked to seen the paint process though how you got the letters and all that pop out thank you very much for all you do can't wait for the next video
Pretty darn nice looking knife once you were done. Quite a transformation without a lot of processes/work. Polish up some razor blades to go with it?? Don't know if you questioned that it may be magnesium, but I believe if you put a couple drops of vinegar on it, you will see it bubble a bit, versus aluminum where it will just sit there like a drop of water
You do add class to a new tool. Years back they might have done that to increase sales. Mr. Dunlap did that for Sears Crome plating tools. Beautiful job.
Zinc diecasting. That's what they write here on Amazon. So it's a zinc alloy, which is non-magnetic too ;-) Zinc will blush over time, so better seal it. Aluminium will do this too. Aluminium doesn't require painting, it seals itself by only corroding on the surface (thin layer, almost invisible).
Hello Marcel! With all the alloys they have today it's so hard to determine what metals they are using. I have done a lot of work on Zinc and Aluminum and this feels more like Aluminum (Or something like it) very light and polishes up very easy. I have lots of polished Aluminum stuff that holds up very well (inside). A clear coat can be applied but will chip under heavy use. It did take the paint nicely though... =) Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha! Almost called it, was thinking Clear Red, but that Clear Orange is beautiful!! The cross-diamond pattern with the orange color looks like a Honeycomb on camera 🤩🐝 Great Show! As per usual 😄👍🏼
I was ready to say that I liked the satin finish left by the fine sanding , but then you added the orange paint. All I can say is: WOW!!! Bee-U-Tee-Ful work, Scout
You know I can't tell you how many times a project looks great and it makes you hesitant to go further! To be honest it happens to me all the time! I just keep thinking of the viewers and trying to go the extra step... This Friday's video is a perfect example!! I could have stopped a couple times but want to push the limit as much as I can. Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!
great finish mate you just showed how nothing metal lasts today with those rubbish water based paints as it nearly fell off with paint remover lol keep them coming
You already know I’m in. Ordered more stuff than usual from Amazon the last couple days, added this on but it will have to wait until I order something else :) Thanks for the reminder not to use a wire wheel.
Hello Richard! I forget what it was but I ruined something really bad on the wire brush because it was Aluminum or some other soft metal! I was horrified and learned the hard way!! LOL Thanks!!!!!!!
Hello William! I used a simple artist brush, I wasn't worried about going over because then I used a Blue Paper towel with Lacquer thinner to wipe off the excess and letters... =) Thanks!
Man you never cease to amaze me haha. All the hobbies you have had and the skill you put forth in these hobbies is awsome. Make it look simple and easy even though we know some of it is not. Concerning the knife, do you tape the knife off a just use a tiny brush? Then whipe the lettering clean? Thanks again.
Hello BAJ! Yes, Small brush and wiped the tops of the letters off with Lacquer thinner!!! It's funny but they call this an Acrylic paint but you need Lacquer thinner to thin it! I tried water and it did nothing! Thanks!!!!!
Following your lead I just got back from a business trip to rural Texas and scored three kraeuter pliers at a small town pawn shop. One is 5 & 1/2” and nickel plated the other ones are 6&1/4” and rusty but not pitted. Also got a real nice 10” crescent adjustable, and two no name but heavy duty 10” pliers for a grand total of $8.00.
I would consider sending you one if there is a missing size/model in your collection. I have to clean them a little to get model numbers or details off of them. I could send pictures if you want them.
You would have been in heaven at this place. They had wooden boxes 18” x24” full of tools sorted by pliers, hammers, tin snips, wrenches etc. I bet there was 200 pair of pliers, side cutters, etc, in one of the boxes.
Hello again. I have my late fathers Stanley 199 from way back, maybe the 1960s or earlier and it does have a hanging/lanyard hole. As you say they have changed the design slightly. Strangely just before Christmas 2018 I cleaned up and polished a Stanley STA155008 at work and it looked and felt much better than it did with the paint on it. I have an old Eclipse pad handle for a future project (alloy) that I got for 50p from a car boot sale. Do you have any pad saw handles amongst your collection?
Hello Nash! There is a big collector community for vintage Utility knives, I don't know all the models but I do see some vintage 199's without the lanyard hole... I do have a vintage Eclipse No. 12 Pad handle! Nice!!!!! Thanks!!!

Don't know if you questioned that it may be magnesium, but I believe if you put a couple drops of vinegar on it, you will see it bubble a bit, versus aluminum where it will just sit there like a drop of water
Another great vid. Although, like many others, would have liked to see the painting. Have a great day.
Hi Spike! I will show it in a future video! Thanks so much!!!!!!
I polish my Stanley's for work. They feel way better in the hand
Hi Dale! You sound like a true craftsman...
That 199 stanley shed it's paint like a snake. Nice work.
Yes! I was amazed at how wonderfully satisfying it was to see the paint bubble up and slip right off!!! So cool! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!
You do add class to a new tool. Years back they might have done that to increase sales. Mr. Dunlap did that for Sears Crome plating tools. Beautiful job.
Oh and that orange just pops!! Nice
I think all the clears would so that knife justice!!!!!!!
As usual you have turned something very ordinary into something extraordinary. Love the orange.😀
Thanks so much!
That's a Sharp ( meaning cool or snazzy ) looking utility knife
LOL Thanks!
Excelente 👌 a quedado mucho mejor que de fábrica, muy buen trabajo 👍👍👍
Thanks so much!!!!!!
Good job! I would suspect the casting is Zamak, Zink Aluminum that is.
Really like the engine turning ont the pipe wrenches. I have ben planning on trying it myself.
Zinc diecasting. That's what they write here on Amazon. So it's a zinc alloy, which is non-magnetic too ;-)
Zinc will blush over time, so better seal it.
Taking you up on your Stanley 199 Challenge. Ordered a couple of them from Amazon today. We have until March 1?
Great choice! As always, beautifully done.
Thanks Virginia!!!!!!
Ha! Almost called it, was thinking Clear Red, but that Clear Orange is beautiful!!
The cross-diamond pattern with the orange color looks like a Honeycomb on camera 🤩🐝
Great Show! As per usual 😄👍🏼
That's a lovely looking knife
Love what you did with that new knife. Who'd have thunk it. Nice job.
Thanks Ben! =D
Well, well, Mister Geppetto, always wanted to meet the father of Pinocchio...interesting...wrenches are just beautiful...
Hello Blackie! I Remember Pinocchio was such a wonderful story and a great lesson about telling the truth. Still holds up today. Thanks!!!!!!!!!
Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!
now that is one nice looking orange.
Man this was some super neat stuff scout knocking them out of the park 😃👍
Thanks so much LV!
@@ScoutCrafter You're welcome scout 😃 👍
Nice job, but I'm pretty sure that Stanley handle is zinc alloy rather than aluminum.
I like it! You turned it into a collectible. Thanks
Hi Tony! It's such a nice casting... Everyone needs one of these! =) Thanks!!!!!!!
great finish mate you just showed how nothing metal lasts today with those rubbish water based paints as it nearly fell off with paint remover lol keep them coming
Hi Robert! I never liked latex paint, it never lasts! =) Thanks!!!!!
That came out really nice. Great video
Thanks Edwin!!!!!
The black cutter too nice to use
very nice.
thanks for posting your vids. relaxing to watch.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoy them!!!!
Yet another fabulous job the paint certainly sets it off well done. Best wishes as always
Thanks Kevin!
Love it! I have a drawer full of these, might knock one out tonight!
Hi Luke! Isn't it amazing how such a pretty tool can be overlooked so easily! Thanks!!!!!!!!
Really awesome! If only these came from the factory this way, right? Love the clear orange.
Thanks Zachary!!!!
Straight out of this old tony to scout brilliant
Gril Nam - You know I have been subscribed to This Old Tony since he had about 4K subscribers! Lol. Thanks!!!! 😃👍
Looks good awesome color. What kind of brush did you use.
Hello William! I used a simple artist brush, I wasn't worried about going over because then I used a Blue Paper towel with Lacquer thinner to wipe off the excess and letters... =) Thanks!
That turned out great I have a couple I will have to do one up.
Hello Abe! You will love it!!!!!
Amazing,,how you make any tool a work of art🍻
I just finished Friday's project! Crazy! LOL Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!!!
@@ScoutCrafter ok thanks for sharing!
That turned out amazingly awesome!
Thanks so much!
Hello RG! What a steal! I really like Kraeuter pliers for their quality and design.... Great score!!!!!!!!! Thanks!
Nice!!!!! Thanks!!!
