    Beautiful knife! With quality starting to creep back into tool lineups these days a large company like Milwaukee, Stanley or Snapon could sure use your advisory skills to enhance sales. As I've mentioned before in a comment I've seen people trade in perfectly good tools just to rebuy the same tool with a higher quality finesh with color. Black chrome, nickel full polish, with nearly every color handle in the rainbow. Who knows... Maybe Milwaukee will seek out your advisory services after seeing your videos. One of my biggest complaints buying tools is the lack of quality. Your eye for quality is second to none in my opinion but your experimentation with color is really grabbing my attention. I admit that I've stopped your videos numerous times to look at something in the background. LOL

      Hi Chris! Every few years companies will put out special editions or remake vintage tools and they are nice but usually never sell enough to be profitable. The money makers are the tools made overseas that Dewalt or Stanley can slap their name on and make a super quick profit just by selling them no manufacturing needed... Many tool manufacturers today are just retailers.. Turning over goods for a fast profit. It's a shame. Americans have become addicted to cheap crap! LOL Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks for the education. It just amazes me how good some of the old tools, and new ones for that matter, can look.

    Amazing! OK...there was a Puppet Theater in Salisbury Park/ Eisenhower Park, bordering on Westbury and East Meadow. I worked at that theater as a puppet maker and performer in the 70s and 80s. Jim Henson tried to recruit mebto do the Muppet Movie. I couldnt go to England at that time....college and other obligations...Anyway...Long Story Short, I'm the guy that perfected the kind of latex rubber heads that Henson used , like Miss Piggy. I taught their guy the way to make plaster molds and use the rubber for hands, heads and other things! I bet you never thought that Marionette of yours would get a story like this out of me!! PS..Got the pictures to prove it! LOL!

      @ScoutCrafter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Bill!!!!!! You know when I was a kid Puppets and marionettes were whimsical and fun... Then in the 70's and 80's they came out with scary movies that tarnished the purity of that wonderful art... Now many people see them as creepy! Shame! Awesome stuff about Jim Henson! Thats amazing!!!!!!

Don't know if you questioned that it may be magnesium, but I believe if you put a couple drops of vinegar on it, you will see it bubble a bit, versus aluminum where it will just sit there like a drop of water

    Even when I was young I saw that fixed blade utility knives had the edge over retractable utility knifes for blade holding rigidity, but the way I use a utility knife it's just not sensible for me. I don't work at a work bench often, I don't carry a sheath or wear a leather apron with a dedicated section for an utility knife, I'm here , there, and then somewhere else always throwing it in a pocket so a retractable type is my only option. That said what you've done with that Defender & this Stanley is BEAUTIFUL, & I'll be on the lookout for a deal on a Defender to do up maybe in Maroon or Red accents & made a sheath & keep in top of my toolbox.

    WOW! Really nice! Do you know what the connection between Stanley and England is? As I understand it Stanley was originally a USA company right? But there is a lot of English-made Stanley tools here in the UK (in fact all English). Did they just manufacture them in England as well as USA? I have a English Stanley hand plane (also a big 'Record' one!). I'd love to see you do some plane and chisel restoration and sharpening!

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello LR! Yes! Stanley goes all the way back to 1843! Frederick Stanley opened his shop in Connecticut, USA, in 1920 he merged with his cousin Henry who owned the Stanley Rule and Level company... it wasn't until 1936 when they introduced the Utility knife.. Now in 1937 Stanley bought the J.A. Chapman company located in Sheffield England! That's how Stanley was able to cross over into the UK market! Now they merged with Black and Decker (The kiss of death) and they will continue to milk the name of Stanley by slapping it on every cheap import they can... Only a few tools are still made in the old factories and most are imports... Thanks!!!!!!!

    Beautiful work ... thank you for describing the process ... curious about what grit sanding belts you used ... you mentioned two, the last one being 'fine'. I just ordered a belt sander and hope to do some restoration work and would rather not start to course on aluminum and destroy my project.

    That’s really nice, perhaps if you wanted to display it, you could take the sharp edge off of a blade and polish that as well. That would look really neat especially as it’s not a retractable blade.

    Hello again. I have my late fathers Stanley 199 from way back, maybe the 1960s or earlier and it does have a hanging/lanyard hole. As you say they have changed the design slightly. Strangely just before Christmas 2018 I cleaned up and polished a Stanley STA155008 at work and it looked and felt much better than it did with the paint on it. I have an old Eclipse pad handle for a future project (alloy) that I got for 50p from a car boot sale. Do you have any pad saw handles amongst your collection?

      Hello Nash! There is a big collector community for vintage Utility knives, I don't know all the models but I do see some vintage 199's without the lanyard hole... I do have a vintage Eclipse No. 12 Pad handle! Nice!!!!! Thanks!!!
