    Ah, now this is a unique restoration and repairs. Very interesting like a micarta lament to reinforce the fractured repairs. Many people would have written off that Defiance as too far gone. Nope no MagDad he saw it as a learning opportunity. Nicely done.

    Jeeze I still have one of these in active service. I love vintage tools, and I'm always on the lookout for them at yard sales. Can't beat old timey "Made in USA" tools at yard sale prices.

    Tough repair, and the knife looks great. I used the same approach to repair a split forearm on my Savage auto shotgun. Instead of jeans material, I used some fiberglass window screening.

    I love this project, the finish is spot on, a handy tool indeed.
    I think the denim patch & epoxy was innovative and worked really well, I've filed that in the brain a under clever ideas 👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

    This turned out awesome! I would of never thought of fixing it that way! I picked up a similar one of these not very long ago, but it doesn't say 1299 defiance on one side, it is just blank.

    Looks better than new. Very well done. A labour of love. Nice paint job.
    I once had a Stanley Defiance hand plane in a group of planes I purchased on Craigslist. It was not very good. Made to a price point so a number of features missing like adjustable frog.

    That was a resurrection for sure. The ol knife had really seen some better days. Clever fix on that one! Ive not had great luck with the general use clear coats. Seems they always peel or yellow. Ive been going to try an automotive grade clear but dont use it enough.

    MagDad 357 Awesome! I was thinking you would use screen for the reinforcement on the inside. Denim was a better choice. I saw on the internet a man that makes sunglasses frames from old denim. It’s now a full time business of his .

    Most would of binned it, funny I was trying to restore a socket ratchet today,2 hrs of finely getting it apart to find the cog completely destroyed sadly I binned it.great job on the Stanley!

    Another lovely piece magdad! But now Im wondering what itd look like if you made a denim handle. Like tuffnell or micarta, just layers of denim and resin shaped up. Perhaps an alternate suggestion for the next perfect handle screwdriver you come across? All the love from the UK!

    Nice! I would have considered that one a goner. You did a nice job. Gives me hope that I can save the gas tank on my 85 Kawasaki 750 turbo bike. It looks like Swiss cheese but I just got 2 kits of Metal Set epoxy. I never considered using cloth for my repairs, but may try that. Better living through modern chemistry and old tricks!
