We just got good news here in Darwin today. Air Asia is coming back. ATM Jetstar flights are up to $1,000 one way for a 2.3 hr flight. We are hoping we can go back soon. Just been too expensive over the past year. Love your videos.
It seems like the two cheapest tropical countries in that part of the world are Cambodia, and Indonesia…..unless I’m mistaken. I haven’t been to Indonesia, but when I was living in Cambodia, it was very easy to live very cheaply and comfortably if you wish to. Thank you for your videos…. I’m from Canada. 👏🏼 👍🏼 🙂 ✈️ 🌴🌴 🌴 🌴
Hi Robert. My personal experience suggests Indonesia slightly tips out Cambodia for what I require, and you could throw in Vietnam and Thailand as well depending on what you need. But I know people who would agree with you. Cheers.
Really enjoy your videos Wayne and your chats with the locals and tourists and a side that I normally wouldn't see as usually stay in Legian Bali and just organized day tours while there so thanks mate. Looking forward to your Bali tour videos and enjoy your time back home in Perth.
Watching your videos I always smile of how you start them: "Good morning, it´s good to see you". Just a perfect start that makes you feel great. Still admire your ability to travel. Keep on going. How and where did you pick up the langues by the way and how long did it take you?
Selemat Malam, Wayne. Gorgeous white sand beach in Lombok with friendly locals serving coffee beachside. Videos keeping me going until the hospital visit. Enjoy. Take care.
Hi Pete. yeah, done in the right spirt it can be a bit of fun - don't take it too seriously. I hope your future travel plans are coming together. Cheers.
Really enjoying your travel videos of Lombok. Enjoying seeing how friendly the local people are and how accessible food and drink is at affordable and simple level. I’ve noticed the locals trying to charge Bule prices which I suppose they will assume is customary.
I've been living in Indonesia for 10 years, 1 coconut cost for them 500 rupees, 😂 Ok now maybe a bit more after COVID time could be 1000 IDR but sure not 8000
I'm not sure if it's a universal thing throughout Indonesia but development here has caused local coconuts to become scarce and now sourced from further away if what the warung owner suggested is true. 5000 rupiah was what I've always understood a coconut to cost at wholesale so 8000 rupiah is in line with that.
yeees I noticed that they were amazed I was single with a child,, and yes I would get a crowd around me,, in the end I was assertive.. I gave alot but I got better at giving to people who deserve it and not being hassled.. I think you know what I mean.. hava lovely time.. I'm totally going to Lombok now !!
Choosing to travel alone with a child would be completely alien to many people. And yes, getting hassled on beaches can get tiresome - I usually pick a time and say "Right, today we take on the hawkers", and then approach it with good humor. If you're trying to sunbathe or relax by yourself it can become annoying however.
Wayne , I’m a 69 year old Australian , I have a preference for Thailand and Cambodia, I swore I would never go to Bali because of the bombings , But my son recently came back from Bali , and gave it a great Rap , So I’m there on Saturday, for 6 days , then my favorite Cambodia
@PeterC245 I would not worry about that Bali bombing many years ago. The chances of a bombing happening in a building where you happen to be, are extremely low. I still fly on commercial jet aircraft, even though there are horrible crashes once in a while. And I still ride in vehicles on the road, even though that is probably the most dangerous form of travel. If something is going happen, something is going to happen. None of us are going to live forever. We need to relax, while being aware of our surroundings, and enjoy the time we have while we are here. Take care 🌴 🌴 🌴 ☸️ ✈️ 🙂
I was in bands and did a bit of acting and voice over work as a younger man then moved into publishing/advertising for a while eventually to work seasonally for a couple of months each year from 2010 to travel more. Cheers.
. Young guy with the scooter accident was lucky!! I would be interested in how the medical treatment was and if he paid for any services. Good content. Thanks.
Sad fact of life, we foreign tourists/travellers attract the concrete box makers. I too mourn the loss of the simplicity that first attracted me to places like Bali and Lombok, but if I (and those like me, not all my doing!) keep coming the local traders become better off (good for them) and invest some of the profits in improving their offerings. And that brings more tourists and so on. And I've written before about the games the vendors play, you are absolutely right about not getting into a strop about overpaying. That involves enormous loss of face for both parties, and Indonesian culture absolutely does not handle loss of face well. The question of the morality of the whole subject, I leave to others for the time being⛔. Keep travelling well.
We are responsible for it I agree, Kevin. And one certainly can't begrudge people the pursuit of more secure lives, but I also miss these places which once had a uniqueness to every facet of their existence. On the face of it they're becoming a clone of something else.
I go to Bali 3 times a year, from Perth, from staying at international hotels to now lodge's. I go for massages and beauty treeqtments. No not yet plastic surgery😂 i enjoy you videos. My friends came back 4 days ago and say these a massive change. Seems more gangster drives eastern Europe. Interesting to find out how you feel. I stay away from tourist plqces and dont get hassel at all. JALAN JALAN A.. JUST WALKING NO EYE CONTACT.
When in Bali I think Im a bit removed from much of what many tourists experience as I'm living at close to a local level using local local family and friends for anything I need. So I haven't noticed any gangster-like increase or similar.
Beach looks beautiful. Are all the beaches in Lombok white sand or does it have black sand beaches like Bali? Sad about imminent development there but it would be a good thing if it takes pressure off Bali. Travel safe!
All the beaches I've seen are white sand and they've all been pretty amazing by any standard. There are a few more tourists coming to Lombok looking for a quieter alternative, I think.
Hi Wayne...just curious about Bali visa to stay. Is the visa you are on only 3 months, then you go out of country back to Perth then back to Bali? A lot of Ex Pats seem to have different visa's. Sounds so confusing. I've heard it explained but changes so much. Hope not too personal of a question.. As always..great content.
Hi Elaine. I'm currently on the thirty day on arrival visa with a thirty day extension but will be looking at getting a six month visa in the future. There are many visas available and I'd suggest perhaps looking at an Indonesian consulate or embassy website to get an idea of which one might suit you best. Cheers.
