When you stack the Emeria and Kazandu triggers, you cannot target the ally you make with Emeria with the Kazandu counter. They stack in whichever order you want, but the ally isn't in play yet to be targeted. In the video, I should have worded it differently. Everything I say is assuming you have a creature already in play. Misspoke.

Great vid, deck looks fun as well; i remember during pre release i had blighted woodland in play, dropped and cracked an evolving wilds and activated the woodland for 4 land fall triggers on two ondu greathorns making them first strike 10/11s. oh they got there.
What about using starfield of nyx? maybe even as a 1 of yo help bring back enchantments if they get countered? or dromoka command hits you? You could, potentially alpha strike then with it as well, getting a landfall trigger after bringing back an emeria to activate all your other enchantments, and now you've got +1+1 on all your enchantments, and +1+0 from hagara, and kazandu can be another enabler to make everything larger. A singleton of sigil of the empty throne would also not be bad in here. just bring your lands down to 30 and you'll have the space. I just might put this together and play test it.

The only problem I have with Starfield is that once you've got 5 enchantments in play (not hard here, given this decklist and its goal), all of your enchantments then become creatures in addition to their other types.....meaning they're vulnerable to board wipes, and I really don't think this deck wants that...
+DreamersImperial Agreed! Also, Dromoka's Command isn't the nail in the coffin it may seem in other decks. You've got so many enchantments main deck that you'll likely have a choice of 2-3 different ones when they target you. I want Starfield to work, I just don't think it does here :/
+DreamersImperial Even with the board wipe argument, a one of is still a great idea, even if it is post board. Alternate win conditions are good, especially in games 2 and 3. Also, Starfield makes all your *other* enchantments creatures, not itself. Even if you just got wiped, you have a few turns to stabilize, since Starfield will be bringing some of those enchantments back. Making it a one of or placing it in the sideboard is great. In the control matchups, you are the aggro, so you go big instead of wide. This blanks their board wipes, so they board them out in favor of spot removal. Game 2, you build up enchantments while your opponent holds on to spot removal spells. Drop a Starfield of Nyx and they will never recover.
The deck looks cool! I love that Retreat to Emeria is getting some spotlight; I wasn't sure it was going to when I saw the mana cost. The only thing I question is the land count. Thirty-two seems slightly excessive, so I would probably go more with 30 and add two more removal spells. The lifegain is amazing with black, and I think a fun strategy to try would be either splashing blue or switching black out for blue to make Bant. That way, you could run counterspells and make it slightly more control-esque. On another note, I would love to see an Abzan-chantment or Bant-chantment deck tech. I absolutely LOVE that strategy and could really use some pointers on how to make it more effective! Thanks!

I've just tried this deck against exalted deck, hard blue control and a white winnie, crushing victories one after another. This deck is insanely good. If it not den protector who wins me the game is the herald with several retreats... I've even managed to win one game without casting emeria retreat. And by the way you can lose friends with this. the look in their faces when they think they are going to win and you cast Blighted Woodland and sacrifice it getting 3 landfall triggers.... I basically put this together and it is so much fun. I had to do some tweaks because I own very few fetch lands (took a break during the khans block) and no den protectors. The price on collecting that alone was fairly high. Even without fetch lands for fixing and triggers this deck is smooth. I basically went 31 lands and swapped out what would be the 3 den protectors for 4 siege rhino. I run 4 Blighted Woodland to compensate for the needed combat tricks needed for missing fetch lands. I went to FNM and had a friend call a judge in frustration. 17 1/1s with 3 retreat to emeria on the board. 1 normal land drop and 4 surprise trickers with popping 2 blighted woodlands after blockers. Many good matches but that match made making the deck worth it.
I played this deck at my recent FNM but tweaked it because it was necessary. My changes were as such....-1 Shambling Vent, -1 Retreat to Emeria, -3 Abzan Charms for 4 Rhino and 1 Utter End. I put the 3 Charms in sideboard and 1 more Languish. I went 3-1 with it and only lost to Mardu good stuff.
+DJables fetches are going to be necessary. realistically this deck could even stand to play a few more of them! otherwise you could switch out Nissa and Den Protector, main board Rhino, and then figure out something for the sideboard...
Assuming you have the on-color fetches in-hand already, good budget deck (not running blue just for Jace that is). I played against this deck and it is nice synergy. My deck beats it's quite easily, but I think most deck don't have many answers to so many enchantment shenanigans. Good video. :)
Land fall beat down combo . You use Seek the horizon to load your hand with lands then attack and play swell of growth with all of your landfall creatures and a retreat to kazuda drop a land then pump with the treat and pump all of your creatures i.e orien-rief hydra or undergrowth champion. And if that land is a looming spear drop that for an additional pump and first strike.
a dude ran a budget version of this at our fnm. cleaned house cos enchantment removal and control was nowhere to be found. 2nd only coz he played the dude in last place (me running coco rallies). Just goes to show you can't run the same deck every week and expect the same winning results. need to keep things up to date if you want that top spot! meta so crazy right now I love it!
Landfall combos r/w/g allies you play a retreat to emeria you have at least a couple of allies including a Hero of Goma fada. Your oppenant tries to board wipe you in response you play atarka's command and you drop a land making an ally token clicking off your indestructible. If your blocking you do the same however, you chose for option two to give your allies +1/+1 and reach then you block with indestructible allies
Could you do a standard deck tech that has Altar of the Brood but has red cards? I got the idea myself from wondering whether a deck could be milling without blue and then I saw how well Lightning Berserker synergiesed with not just Altar of the Brood but also Impact Tremors.
I would reduce the deck down to 27 lands, in order to run a 3 of Blood-Cursed Knight, and a 2 of Ruinous Path. Awakening your lifelink land is hilarious, and you NEED to answer planeswalkers, and it will make your opponent upset. The knight helps give you board presence and will also attract removal. I would be tempted to budget cut Nissa for Pilgrim's Eye since I actually own those.
+Meh man It's OK. Surge of Righteousness and Silk Wrap work better to outright remove their threats early game... then land a rhino or an Oblivion Sower, or a Retreat to Emeria and block for days. Offshoot is an OK choice, but I prefer Surge.
The deck looks super sweet :) But is abzan-only colors the right place to be? If adding blue it could be seen as Bant + Black to better fit into the fetch + battlelands. With blue it could include: - Lumbering Falls (that hexproof... and with Kazandu +1+1 counters... only crackling doom could deal with it) - Counters (dispel vs dromoka's command and in tune with the high land count, plus Ojutai's Command could bring back Den Protector as the beater or Herald for value) - Draw (with such high land count, flood with too few Retreats could be an issue. Something like Treasure Cruise or Dig with so many fetches should not be an issue) - Tasigur (again the delve should come in easy) - Bring to Light (what retreat or rhino would you like to have right now?) In other words... instead of Abzan Retreat... it could be Retreat to Light :P Me thinks some board wipin be required as well... Or we could even splash red for sideboard Radiant Flames...
I have played, this deck alot. its super fun. in My testing i fund out herald is actually pretty bad. and i have been cutting the lands to 28 and put in painful truth for ekstra cards, and silk wrap for som Earl removal works alot better. best part about this deck is when your opponent has just devle 6 lands to play dig through time, and than you play oblivion sower. then you hit 8-10 lands works like a charm, since you get alle exiled lands 😀 super fun deck to play.

Theres so many times when i see a deck tech on this channel and i want to see it in action. If you can PLEASE make playtest videos on mtgo of these decks, the channel gathering magic and channel fireball do it, do it like them and make tons of money like them. Seeing all the deck techs in action would be amazing, maybe even just take a vote each week to see which deck tech you will make a playtest video of. seriously its a lot of content that could make you a lot of money, think about it please.
What about Sword of the Animist? Give it to one of your 1/1 tokens making it a 2/2, attack to get a landfall trigger. If you have Hagra, you can get +1/+0, so they either lose a creature or take 3 damage, and you get another landfall trigger.

How much testing do you do for these decks? This one seems like it wants to go wide, but I don't know how effectively Kazandu's 2 life will help against serious attacks. Mantis Riders especially.
+Ian Kernohan You get a LOT of triggers, so Mantis Rider has its work cut out for it. Early game you're in trouble, but once you stabilise, 2-4 landfall triggers per turn isn't out of the question. I've finished vs Jeskai Dark on 40+ life thanks to Kazandu. PRAY that they exile fetches to Dig through time! Oblivion Sower can get 6+ triggers!
I remember a time, when I couldn't play standard decks, because key pieces were used in eternal formats. Nowadays, I can't afford some modern decks, because some of the cards see play in standard.
Replacement for Nissa, Nissa's Pilgrimage. You will get a Landfall Trigger with a backup land in hand. Yes, it only works on Forests, but it's a good chance that you won't have all of your forests out. TCGplayer has them at $.04 If you are looking to save on money. Any opinions?
I don't think you can trigger emeria and kazandu at the same time with no creatures in play and get the 1/1 and put a counter on it. When the landfall ability triggers kazandu would not have any valid targets for the counter mode.

At 5.40 you say you can create a token with Reatreat to Emeria and give it a +1/+1 with Retreat to Kazandu off the same land. Can you actually do that? Don't you have to choose a target for the Kazandu's trigger when putting it on the stack, way before the token gets created? Still, nice vid, keep up the good work! :)
I run 40 lands in my modern landfall... so much fun to mill your opponent for 24 with hedron crab and then play the top card of your library with djinn of wishes just to mill them again. This is assuming you have courser of kruphix out of course.
we have currently 2 nearly-combos in standard, which are also playable in modern. why can't they just print the last peace? Anafenza + nantuko husk + if needed, a pinger on enter the battlefield/die. we need only persist/something which comes back. Hangar/Endless one + Impact Tremors/Outpost Siege/Molten Nursery/any other card with similare effects. Enduring Renewal reprint pls. At least there is still hope. Go Shadows over Innistrad. The Deck itself looks nice, but i like my control-decks with more cards, which make my opponent cry (yes, i'm the guy who played a deck with 4 Crux of fate and 4 End hostilities). Those cards should work here too, maybe not mainboard, unfortunately. But some serious suggestions: -Murderous cut, with all those fetchlands, we should be able to cast it for B -Skyline Cascade, it's offcolor but as a two of? it can stop a tapped creature for a turn and against siege rhino or jace it will surely help. -radient flames? we already have red thanks to the marsh. one or two, maybe only in the sideboard, can be good against the mirror, allys, landfall and some controlldecks with awaken-spells.
+prime dialga - They don't print the last pieces, because infinite/insta-win combos is something they actively try to avoid nowadays. That being said, there's plenty of fun to be had with Nantuko Husk, Zulaport Cutthroat and sac creatures.
Really digging all these standard deck techs! They're giving me so many different options to choose from and build! I am playing this deck with splash red from crackiling/kolaghans command and bloodstained mire, wooded foot hills, and some sideboard cards
What was its results against jeski or abzan decks with dromkas command
what would people think adding the new hissing quagmires into this deck? what lands could be taken out for it?

I wonder if maybe you take out 4 basics to put in Honored Hierarch. It would give you some early game presence and potential mana ramp.

I would like you to play test these deck techs you make for standard even if you just print proxies because they are so expensive.
I would really like to see a mono blue artificer standard deck Tech that would really work in competitive meta.
How much testing do you do for these decks? This one seems like it wants to go wide, but I don't know how effectively Kazandu's 2 life will help against serious attacks. Mantis Riders especially.
+Ian Kernohan You get a LOT of triggers, so Mantis Rider has its work cut out for it.
Early game you're in trouble, but once you stabilise, 2-4 landfall triggers per turn isn't out of the question. I've finished vs Jeskai Dark on 40+ life thanks to Kazandu.
PRAY that they exile fetches to Dig through time! Oblivion Sower can get 6+ triggers!

I remember a time, when I couldn't play standard decks, because key pieces were used in eternal formats.
Nowadays, I can't afford some modern decks, because some of the cards see play in standard.

Replacement for Nissa, Nissa's Pilgrimage. You will get a Landfall Trigger with a backup land in hand. Yes, it only works on Forests, but it's a good chance that you won't have all of your forests out. TCGplayer has them at $.04 If you are looking to save on money. Any opinions?

I don't think you can trigger emeria and kazandu at the same time with no creatures in play and get the 1/1 and put a counter on it. When the landfall ability triggers kazandu would not have any valid targets for the counter mode.
Can't you stack the triggers so that Emeria resolves first?

Sadly this is correct. Mode is chosen going ONTO the stack...meaning it needs a proper target going onto the stack or the mode is an invalid choice.

I've found it boys, the only abzan deck that doesn't run siege rhino (other than collected company), in the main deck

At 5.40 you say you can create a token with Reatreat to Emeria and give it a +1/+1 with Retreat to Kazandu off the same land. Can you actually do that? Don't you have to choose a target for the Kazandu's trigger when putting it on the stack, way before the token gets created?

I run 40 lands in my modern landfall... so much fun to mill your opponent for 24 with hedron crab and then play the top card of your library with djinn of wishes just to mill them again. This is assuming you have courser of kruphix out of course.
we have currently 2 nearly-combos in standard, which are also playable in modern. why can't they just print the last peace?
Anafenza + nantuko husk + if needed, a pinger on enter the battlefield/die. we need only persist/something which comes back.
Hangar/Endless one + Impact Tremors/Outpost Siege/Molten Nursery/any other card with similare effects. Enduring Renewal reprint pls.

The Deck itself looks nice, but i like my control-decks with more cards, which make my opponent cry (yes, i'm the guy who played a deck with 4 Crux of fate and 4 End hostilities). Those cards should work here too, maybe not mainboard, unfortunately. But some serious suggestions:
-Murderous cut, with all those fetchlands, we should be able to cast it for B
-Skyline Cascade, it's offcolor but as a two of? it can stop a tapped creature for a turn and against siege rhino or jace it will surely help.
-radient flames? we already have red thanks to the marsh. one or two, maybe only in the sideboard, can be good against the mirror, allys, landfall and some controlldecks with awaken-spells.
+prime dialga - They don't print the last pieces, because infinite/insta-win combos is something they actively try to avoid nowadays.
That being said, there's plenty of fun to be had with Nantuko Husk, Zulaport Cutthroat and sac creatures.

Why Smoldering Marsh instead of regular swamps, there is no red in the deck.
It's something you can fetch up early in the game with a Foothills in order to play Hagra if you don't have a Vents or Swamp in play.
Animist's Awakening? With 32 lands, you're bound to hit quite a few late game.
And is you have all playsets of enchantments in play and crack a fetch land.
