what's your opinion on Radiant Flames as either a SB option, or even MB? You have access to 3 colours here, and you should be able to prowess your creatures out of kill range
+TheManaSource Great video. After seeing Ross Merriam post this list on SCG I've been in love. I feel like most of my losses come from a flood out. Seems strange with a deck that runs 21 lands but with so many cantrips you see a lot more cards than a normal game of standard. What are your thoughts on a Magmatic Insight as a one of to help mitigate flood?
This deck is nuts. I put it together a played it this weekend locally, just wrecked everyone. I also use a playset of Elusive Spellfists, they allow you to have an unblockable to go with your swiftspear that you just used slip through space on. It's absolutely amazing. Great stuff man, I always look forward to your videos!
My son is in live with this build idea. after watching it run in Saturday we build a "budget" version with what we had in house and it ran great. can't wait until we can finish it off then he can kick some butt on game day.
I'm actually putting this deck together right now. Some of the changes I'm doing to it, though, are simple Cut 2 basics for one of each dual more, main deck 2 Painful Truths, and side board 2 Grasp of Darkness. The extra black mana helps after boarding in, and Grasp is pretty well set on getting rid of some of the bigger creatures, like Anafenza. It's also pretty good with spot removal, and isn't as mana intensive as Languish
Was throwin a list together for a friend of mine very similar to this. Instead of the four Jace I threw in 2 Chandra, Flamecaller and 2 Zada, Hedron Grinder. Also had a bit more control/counter in the main board to protect your creatures for your lethal turn 4-5 swing.
Hi Wedge thank you so much for this new deck tech video. I don't have access to some of the pieces (jace, fetches) but the concept has me intrigued and I can't wait to brew something out of this.
Love this deck. I'm excited for all of these cards AND excited for a possible upgrades to good ol' Kiln Fiend in modern. I'm mostly Boros, but man, I can absolutely admire the ingenuity of the Izzet.
I wanted to see one of these. Prowess is one of my favorite mechanics, it makes combat tricks the most powerful nonsense, and it's just *fun* to drown people in mind-games. I look forward to watching MTG tournaments be decided on someone's poker face as they bluff their way to victory by making someone else think they don't have a spell that wins the match.
Dang it Wedge! And here I thought Stormchaser Mage wouldn't be too expensive, you make this! I know this deck is gonna suck in modern anyway, but I was building a Jeskai enchant prowess deck with Stormchaser Mage, Clout of Dominus, and probably even ethereal armor. The rest of the deck contains either prowess creatures, removal in the form of enchantments, or cheap spells. All I was missing was it, and I thought no one was going to use it in standard. I'm on a strict budget and spent most on the other stuff, lol.
+TheManaSource I feel like Zada would go great in here, I know it's 4 mana, but if you get it out, the next turn you get a prowess trigger for each creature you control for each spell you cast in addition to copying the abilities. Just one slip through space and one titans strength with Zada and two others with prowess is lethal
I've been running elusive spellfist in place of Jace still a 1u1c cost and as far as stats its a 1/3 with +1/0 and unblockable on noncreature spell cast. This is very good and def a viable option budget option imo.
I built this before I saw the decklist at the SCG open. I included Chandra, Fire of Khaladesh and Jori, En Ruin Diver. Chandra is insanely powerful when you can cast cheap red spells to flip her. Consistently does 5 damage on turn 4 and gives you reach to close out games with her +1. Jori, En helps keep your hand a little more full since your goal is to just dump spells every turn. What does everyone think about those inclusions? I haven't played a lot of matches with it yet but it seems awesome and is a lot of fun.
just a little thought on editting: when you are talking about the reasons for a card in the deck (for example the dispel for the sideboard) i would suggest to make some visual sign for it be clear that this card is in the deck FOR those cards following. example: Dispel ---> atarka, collected, rally or: Dispel FOR atarka, collected, rally This way you can just see 4 cards and while its obvious that there is none of the other cards in the deck sometimes, it makes it much easier to concentrate on what you say instead of watching the graphics. I hope that helps out a little, and thx for the vids, like em! :)
Ended up running a similar layout of this deck but replacing the [excessively expensive and hard to get] Jaces for 2 Jori en and 2 Chandra, fire of keledesh. May consider elusive spellfist for when rotation comes. i do lack fetches so land sometimes becomes a problem either with lack of or flood of. though the later being not that bad if i happen to have Wandering Fumarole as an emergency body, but still not optimal. but it runs well enough.
I love it and I'm currently brewing UR Prowess in modern with value Delver of Secrets. Super fun to play pumping my team WITH ALL THE SPELLS. Also: Stormchaser Mage and Twisted Image is hilarious and the card is also useful as a "removal" against Spellskite, Noble Hierarch or Birds of Paradise and draws a card for one blue mana. The fun and value in modern is super real! :D
I've been running u/r prowess on cockatrice for a while now. I think elusive spellfist is a lot better than abbot. Abbot gives decent card advantage, but spellfist gives better inevitiability. Its like having every spell getting slip through space spliced on. I also think wild slash is at least equal to fiery impulse. Sometimes you just need to get in those last couple points of burn to the face. This deck either wins before your opponent can set up or burns them up then grinds out a long game. I also run 4 fumaroles for the long games. Its pretty close to immune to to burn. I have not tried adding black spells to the side. This is intriguing considering the deck does have access to black more often than not as a side effect of the fetch/dual allied colors manabase we have. I"m going to try delver in modern now because of this deck. It's very fun and pretty strong.
wow, got the wheels turning for either modern or legacy as a really fun varient with delver and possibly white spells instead of black for mantis rider and path to exile
Hey there! I'd love to see an Abzan Ayli dech tech on here sometime. between siege rhino eldrazi displacer, sorin, lanturn scout, hangarback and pulse of murasa I feel like there are tons of awesome life gain/sacrifice exile plays that could happen in a deck like that. I'd love to see what you could put together, Wedge. keep it up. I love this channel. :-)
i ended up with three stormchasers and a few of that merfolk prowess rogue after prerelease so i built a similar list. mostly cheap blue unsummons and those fiery impulses, and a couple spells that come down in price thanks to surge like comparitive analysis and boulder strike
i added a few copies of zada. duplicating expedite and slip through space to draw 2+ cards for 1 mana has been pretty nice(its been typically 3+). i also tried out dance of the skywise, pretty decent.
I called this deck since the blue red legendary was spoiled (which for some reasons is not in this deck) either way I thought it more controly, remove and counter things while you enable prowess, and a lot cheaper, still working for it to work... It'll be nice to see a great and affordable izzet deck in standard
I've been using a jeskai tempo version of this. Typically I get a Zada Hedron Grinder in play with 5-6 creatures, then use slip through space on Zada to draw a new hand.
I am running it. Its pretty great. People try to block it all the time. I run it instead of abbot. Jace is super expensive, but really good. It helps get the ideal of titan's strength plus battlerage happening. Plus, who doesn't love to flashback a cruise?
well I made this deck yesterday and won gameday this deck is so fun to play your opponent would never suspect how aggressive this deck is and how jace could keep u drawing cards from your Deck and casting spells l love the deck its fast and fun
I really like Elusive Spellfist due to the fact it's a 1U for a 1/3 and its Prowess trigger gives it +1/0 and makes it unblockable. I have a UW Prowess deck with a splash of green for Titanic Growth and Might of the Masses. Artful Maneuver is a nice white instant I threw in because it's cheap and has rebound. Cast it, buff the spellfists and make them unblockable, then cast it again next turn. Strongarm Monk is nice too, because his prowess trigger gives EVERYONE a boost, but he's kinda expensive casting cost wise. Since I don't use Red I don't have direct damage spells, but Suspension Field, Pacifism, and Silk Wrap seem to work okay in a pinch. I dunno, I'm still trying to work it all out. I mean, I'm building a deck out of boosters and boxes that I snag whenever I got some spare cash, so I haven't tweaked it as much as I could if I bought cards invididually, but I've been impressed by how much damage it can do in a short amount of time.
I saw this deck played at SCG and knew it was gonna be my new deck. I've been running zada with a atarka shell. Had been great so far. But this deck.....damn it's good.
I played a dark jeskai ish deck first FNM of this standard. Never went out and got Jace's or hangarback walkers so instead I got stormchaser mages and Goblin Darkdwellers. Two utter ends and some Ojutai's commands (both of which were in the sideboard) were the only non counter spells the Goblins couldn't hit and though it was weird, it was insanely consistent and versatile. while jace may be better all around, I straight up won games cause I had 4/4's with menace that came down with a crackling doom or kholagan's command. went undefeated btw
I'm putting together a Jeskai version of the deck to run Ascendancy, defiant strike and either seeker of the way or monastery mentor (having trouble deciding between the two). No jace isn't as big a downside as the UR version since between treasure cruise and the looting from ascendancy running out of spells is very unlikely.
I've been running this deck in Innistrad standard to good success at FNM. Monastery swiftspear, Temur battle rage, the fetch lands, and treasure cruise have rotated out and I don't have the budget for Jace, so instead I run: 4 Elusive spellfist (Whenever you cast a spell it can't be blocked? Yes please!) 3 Uncaged fury (Replaces temur battle rage) 3 Fevered visions (Without treasure cruise we need all the draw we can find) 2 Jori en, ruin diver (Casting two spells per turn is laughably easy in this deck, we need draw) 3 Infectious bloodlust (Prowess trigger, 2 extra power, replaces itself) 4 Goldnight castigator (in the sideboard) No prowess, but it is a 4 power hasty flyer for 4. I'll take it.
A friend of me made a deck that kinda looks like this. except we put in zada instead of jace. casting zada give your team haste and unblockable draw a bunch of cards and trigger prowess a lot. we also play the counter package main. why? the deck plans to get zada out early as possible and beat your opponent before things like siege rhino and anafenza become a problem. i played the deck during our local gamestore's standard tournament and made top 8 and lost in the final against a atarka red deck which was drawing his spells better than me.
Deck is awesome, made one for my wife but it is using more expensive cards like 3-4 Exquisite Firecrafts and Mind Swipe with a playset of Scab-Clan Baserkers.it is still never fast and very deadly.
I'm going to try to make a more budget version of this deck for FNM. Drop the Jaces for Jeskai Elders (prowess and possible looting) and probably drop the black splash sideboard.
I feel like there is room for some variation in this. Could go green for Atarka's Command, or Become immense which is ridiculous with BattleRage by the way. Maybe even more black for Anglers, why use a kill spell when you could just block and swing in with Ferocious. It dilutes the Prowess theme a bit but you can almost play something like the modern delve deck that Chapin ran a while ago.
I've been working on a budget version of this ever since I saw Stormchaser Mage. While not having Jace sucks, and the lack of fetches makes Delve more awkward, it plays pretty similar. I've also been testing Goblin Dark-Dwellers as a 2 of for a big evasive creature that also triggers prowess. I'm also bytrying out Jori En or Anticipate as cheaper card advantage than Jace, though Jace is just flat-out better.
Also Dragon Fodder is nice but I'm not that fond of it. Rending Volley is a decent sideboard option seeing as you can't splash black on a budget. And as someone else mentioned, Elusive Spellfist is great.
I love this deck but im playing jeskai prowess and havnt lost yet with it, I'm playing protection spells and pump spells and it seems to be real good in the format about now
What do you think about adding green splash for 2 become immense and 2/4 atarka command -2 treasure cruise -2/4 Jace I was thinking that Temur version would be more deadly, just add 1 green mana source and it's done.
i have a list built similar to this. but forget black go green instead. you get the attarka combo with the blue draw fail to see the draw back here. also i dont need jace in my list so brings the price way down.
any combinqtion of Zephyr Scribe and Elusive Spellfist can sub out Jace. The Scribe loots and the Spellfist is more aggressive. what do you guys think?
Besides Abbot, jace and fetch lands, I already own most of these pieces I think. However, I've been trying to build a deck to replace splinter twin in modern; this looks quite similar to my idea...
I love this deck tech but I have to say my variant of American colors is a bite more controlly. the charms and new surge cards make this deck have a easier time dealing with the opponents board.
Say I wanted to swap jace for Atarka's command and 2 treasure cruise for 2 become immense. How should I switch the lands? I'm guessing throw in wooded foothills but I'm not sure what to take out. Help please!
How to win in Modern. Add x4 Delver of Secrets, then add x4 Stormchaser mages and the add x4 mantis riders. The 1/2 lifelink/prowess monk is always a good choice aswell.Going for that since I do play for fun with my friends anyway.
I've been running a mono-red prowess deck on Magic Duels. Due tho the deck restrictions there, it doesn't have a fraction of the power of this deck, and left unchecked it can easily win in 4 turns. This deck looks even faster and scarier.
Instead of running abbot of the keral keep because I can't afford it I would substiute with a mage ring bully or the blue prowes 2 drop monk that enables card draw upon death. I would also add 2 Zada, Hedron grinders. because if you target it for example, lets say you have it on the battlefield and 4 prowess creatures you target it with a pump spell then that spell will copy 4 times thus, you trigger prowess 4 times dealing lethal damage. I would also put in 4 looming spires since everything is cheap and I would cut out all the duel lands. It would run faster with straight up mountains. And i would run brutal strengths with all that prowess even if its blocked that would go through
Rush..rush.. reminds me of the good old days of Kobolds, Ornithopters, Unstable Affliction, Bloodlust and Lightning Bolts :) This deck also seems like a good way to be hated by your friends ;D
Wanna make this deck a little bit more interesting? Replace the abbot of Keral keep (or jace for budget) for some soul fire grand master, replace some of the can trips for some mantis rider, and you have yourself an aggressive jeskai deck that has the ability to win in stalled board states. Thoughts?
I have something very similar in modern but i still think about a good card draw, so far i am using a black splash for kolaghan's command and bob, also an aether vial for extra creature value. Do you guys have any suggestions?
To anyone who loves this deck but doesn't feel like forking out 240 dollars or so for a playset of Jace's, I found Elusive Spellfist works really well in it's place. Obviously not anywhere near as good but if you are just playing FNM magic it is a very good substitution.
hey i was thinking what about using zada?? wouldn't using his ability make prowess go off even more with all the copies?? and if it doesn't wouldn't using slip through space and temur battle rage with titans strength be broke????? pls reply i would love to hear what you think of this .o.
Hey Wedge, what do you think about the Delver comparisons? I personally don't see it because I used to play UW delver back in the day. But maybe I'm missing something?
I actually built a w/u/g midrange tempo deck which is the first non aggro/mid range deck i have ever built. And i am building a aggro eldrazi u/b/r deck
lol try distortion strike with shu-yun the silent tempest. throw a couple mercurial guests for backup and some form of defense like tap downs or return spells that's my strategy. doing exactly 20 damage with many combos is an amazing strategy
Why not fetch/splash for white instead of black? Use Valorous Stance instead of roast? Fiery Impulse snags things smaller than 4 body, and VS can remove flying and greater than 5 body at instant speed. It could be a good defensive prowess trigger and save your guys from a enemy Fiery Impulse/Roast/Valorous Stance/Murderous Cut. Then in the side you can run Hallowed Moonlight to counter Rally/CC decks.
Hey everyone!
My voice is under attack from a cold so the lore video is delayed a few days, but do not worry. It's written and ready to film.
LORE HYPE!
Until then...enjoy some crazy deck techs this week along with a few other cool videos.
Love ya
+TheManaSource Hope you Feel Better! excited for lore when comes out!
what's your opinion on Radiant Flames as either a SB option, or even MB?
You have access to 3 colours here, and you should be able to prowess your creatures out of kill range
Can I send you a deck list I made to help tweak it.
+TheManaSource Could you do a Deck tech on Red Chaos themed decks. Also, sorry about getting sick, i hope you feel better. Lots of chicken soup!!!!
+TheManaSource *BLAAAAH* *BLAH BLAH BLUUUAGGH* That was my reaction to the title..... its me throwing up Dx
This is the deck I was talking about on twitter last night!! I love it, so glad you made this video
+Nateson Its crazy fun!

+TheManaSource omfg love this deck and storm chaser I see being modern played at the least flying for a 2 mana haster ridiculous value
wow, this is the best style of deck-tech that I've ever seen. I subscribed because I like fast-talking clarity packed with information.
thanks for the tip : )
YAY PROWESS!!!! I love this in modern, and will totally be using some of these pieces.

I really like this deck a lot and can see it being powerful at my LGS. I think I will build it, minus the Jace, though which won't be a problem.
Anyone thinking of running Elusive Spellfist?
4 of taking the jace spot
I am running it. Its pretty great. People try to block it all the time. I run it instead of abbot. Jace is super expensive, but really good. It helps get the ideal of titan's strength plus battlerage happening. Plus, who doesn't love to flashback a cruise?

I've just bought a play set of Monastery Mentor for Modern so I was thinking of splashing White for Mentor, the deck looks super sweet though.
Strongarm Monk is nice too, because his prowess trigger gives EVERYONE a boost, but he's kinda expensive casting cost wise.

went undefeated btw
I ran this but splashed white for mantis rider and jeskai charm. took first at fnm. I love this deck it was super fun.
I recently came up with a Jeskai Black aggro list that I'd like some input on.....
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Stormchaser Mage
4 Mantis Rider
2 Pia & Kiran Naalar
2 Wingmate Roc
2 Goblin Dark-Dwellers
4 Wild Slash
4 Fiery Impulse
4 Jeskai Charm
4 Crackling Doom
2 Kolaghan's Command
4 Bloodstained Mire
3 Flooded Strand
3 Prairie Stream
2 Smoldering Marsh
2 Sunken Hollow
2 Battlefield Forge
2 Shivan Reef
2 Island
2 Plains
2 Mountain
Side
2 Self-Inflicted Wound
2 Surge of Righteousness
3 Duress
2 Hallowed Moonlight
2 Dispel
2 Negate
2 Deflecting Palm(Possibly Kolaghan the Storm's Fury).
I am excited to test Bone Saw in this deck on Game Day. A free Prowess trigger seems good
I've been running this deck in Innistrad standard to good success at FNM. Monastery swiftspear, Temur battle rage, the fetch lands, and treasure cruise have rotated out and I don't have the budget for Jace, so instead I run:
4 Elusive spellfist (Whenever you cast a spell it can't be blocked? Yes please!)
3 Uncaged fury (Replaces temur battle rage)
3 Fevered visions (Without treasure cruise we need all the draw we can find)
2 Jori en, ruin diver (Casting two spells per turn is laughably easy in this deck, we need draw)
3 Infectious bloodlust (Prowess trigger, 2 extra power, replaces itself)
4 Goldnight castigator (in the sideboard) No prowess, but it is a 4 power hasty flyer for 4. I'll take it.
great deck tech! Really good synergy. Keep it up!
Planning on copying this card list, making it as budget as possible, as well as make it fit SOI standard.
Great tech! Storm chaser made me want to play blue red instead of red black. Thank you
I'm considering this, and adding a couple of things in ice, maybe even a playset
Blue and red, aggro, cheap mana costs, far, a ridiculously bonkers strategy. Everything I love in Magic!
Nice video! Keep up the great work!

Thx! I made it third place on game day with this deck!
After being on hiatus, I think this deck will bring me back to standard.
I love this deck but im playing jeskai prowess and havnt lost yet with it, I'm playing protection spells and pump spells and it seems to be real good in the format about now
What do you think about adding green splash for 2 become immense and 2/4 atarka command
-2 treasure cruise
-2/4 Jace
I was thinking that Temur version would be more deadly, just add 1 green mana source and it's done.
i have a list built similar to this. but forget black go green instead. you get the attarka combo with the blue draw fail to see the draw back here. also i dont need jace in my list so brings the price way down.
Its like a an aggro pump deck Loving it
any combinqtion of Zephyr Scribe and Elusive Spellfist can sub out Jace. The Scribe loots and the Spellfist is more aggressive. what do you guys think?
While it didn't make much presence in the SCGATL Top 8, I'm still excited to see this do some more work soon.
Have you thought of a temp take on this, including Winterflame and Brutal Expulsion?
is there anyway that this could be changed into a temur deck? basically atarka red with stormchaser and maybe other cool blue cards?
Awesome video as always Wedge! What do you think of adding Joris instead of Jaces? Is adding Chandra Flamecaller as a 2 of too greedy? lol
And i would run brutal strengths with all that prowess even if its blocked that would go through
Would it be viable to replace, as a budget option, JACE for Jori En Ruin Diver???
What about splashing green for become immense and atarka's command? Or maybe just become immense.
Rush..rush.. reminds me of the good old days of Kobolds, Ornithopters, Unstable Affliction, Bloodlust and Lightning Bolts :)
This deck also seems like a good way to be hated by your friends ;D
Great deck tech Wedge
you would be the greatest person in the entire history of forever if you did a post ogw r/b aggro deck
I was considering Jori En and Umara Entangler options?
Jori En is a badass addition to this deck!!!
hey man can i get a update on this list with thing in the ice
Trying it with Dark-Dwellers this friday as I've not got Jaces yet but I get the feeling I'll be investing :-(
Are you thinking about doing a mono-colorless deck tech for standard anytime soon, Wedge?
is there any budget replacements on the fetch lands for now?
i wasn't sure if i should play warping play only in the sideboard or twice in the main. But now... i think i need at least a playset mainboard.
Wanna make this deck a little bit more interesting? Replace the abbot of Keral keep (or jace for budget) for some soul fire grand master, replace some of the can trips for some mantis rider, and you have yourself an aggressive jeskai deck that has the ability to win in stalled board states. Thoughts?
id splash white for monastery mentor and jeskai ascendancy
How about splashing white and playing monastery mentor?
I have something very similar in modern but i still think about a good card draw, so far i am using a black splash for kolaghan's command and bob, also an aether vial for extra creature value. Do you guys have any suggestions?
finally i can trade off my foil treasure cruise and are fetchlands going to drop in price after they rotate out?
Wedge could you please do a budget version of this???
Why not splash white for mantis rider?
I think it would be interesting to try soulblade djin and even zada. Zada's time to shine.
I've been saying it since Stormchaser was spoiled, I'll say it again: UR Prowess is going to be insane, and I'm so happy about it
I actually built a w/u/g midrange tempo deck which is the first non aggro/mid range deck i have ever built. And i am building a aggro eldrazi u/b/r deck
Is there any possibility to add in Zada mainboard for disgusting value? Must test for this...
lol try distortion strike with shu-yun the silent tempest. throw a couple mercurial guests for backup and some form of defense like tap downs or return spells that's my strategy. doing exactly 20 damage with many combos is an amazing strategy
Is there anyway to make this deck more aggro? is there a way to add some more burn cards and chandra fire of kaladesh?
YES!!! Well i'm ditching esper dragons for this explosive deck!
any budget options for jace
Why not fetch/splash for white instead of black? Use Valorous Stance instead of roast?
Fiery Impulse snags things smaller than 4 body, and VS can remove flying and greater than 5 body at instant speed. It could be a good defensive prowess trigger and save your guys from a enemy Fiery Impulse/Roast/Valorous Stance/Murderous Cut.
Then in the side you can run Hallowed Moonlight to counter Rally/CC decks.
im thinking about a standard U/R token deck with Zada at the top of the Curve.
