  • In part 5 of the 85 VF1000R video series I send out the fasteners for plating, Cerakote the brackets and subframe that were originally powder coated for a more accurate OEM look. Then paint the brake rotors and rebuild the brake calipers/master cylinder before reassembling the bike ready for bodywork.

    Great video, I am in the same position as you, not quiet as dedicated as you. I have done a strip down to frame and engine. All painted and polished parts and put back together.
    As I said previously your videos are great for making sure I put things back in the right place. You go over the bike slowly which is great.
    Thanks again for a great series of restoration videos on a great bike.

      No problem, I enjoy sharing the restoration journey with others. If you ever feel like sharing your work you can email me pictures or video to “andyr999@comcast.net”. By the way I was born in Auckland, so have a personal connection with New Zealand.

    Doing the same to an 85 currently. These are absolutely FANTASTIC for reference and how to. Thank you

      Great to hear! If you need specific reference photos let me know, I pretty much have every nut and bolt photographed through the various restorations.

      @@MCSR52im trying to get the axle out of the front wheel currently and cannot figure it out.

      @@dylancade2003 it’s actually an axle with long nut on the end. Place 17mm wrench on the two flats cut into the axle on speedo drive side, then 22mm on the nut the other side. Just loosen them as you would nut and bolt anti-clockwise.

    Awesome work! Question if you dont mind.... when polishing/cleaning your alluminium parts, do you apply any clear coating? If not will they stay bright?

    • @MCSR52
      @MCSR52  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends. If they are mirror polished I just use a protective ceramic coat, the type you can wipe on, because clearcoat will not adhere and anodizing will dull them. In this case you have to polish them every 6 months or so. If it’s a natural or brushed finish I clear anodize or Cerakote the small parts and clearcoat the larger parts, like frames and swingarms. Anodizing is closest to the OE finish but is expensive, plus modern Cerakote finish’s are almost as durable. If I clearcoat a part I generally use a matte finish as it looks more like OE than a gloss finish.

    Very strange, I left a comment and its disappeared, 🤔🤔.

      @@MCSR52 good evening. No it was just complimenting you on the quality of the work you are doing on the bike, and a comment about the "TRAC" decal on the right fork leg, maybe it was a link to a picture I put showing how it was fitted on another VF 1000R. Anyway, keep up the amazing rebuild, looking forward to the next instalment. 😎👍.

      @@shaunhardie6077 you got me thinking so I checked my original photo’s and there wasn’t a TRAC decal on the right leg, maybe because the TRAC system is only on the left. Is that what you were referring to?

      @@MCSR52 the "T" of the decal should be at the top and not the bottom.

      @@shaunhardie6077 Makes sense, I appreciate the tip, it’s easy to miss details like that when your focused on the overall build!
