Good video! Dark Souls 1 was my first Souls and Fromsoft experience. I will never forget the countless times I died trying to make my way through the Undead Burg. Figured I'd run up to some skeletons and hack and slash away only to realize pretty quickly that there is a rythym to this game, with multiple things to be cognicent of at any given moment. Wether it be how much stamina you have or item durability...etc. With every frustrating death I got better and learned. I really love the way knowledge is just as important as the tools you have to survive. Yes you can dodge, parry or block with a shield. This you learn early. However, it takes time to learn when and against what enemies to use each of these. Each enemy in the game has it's specific patterns and windows to avoid attack or strike. Only through repetitive trial and error can you learn your enemy and how to react to them. Dark Souls is a game that punishes it's players but all the while making them stronger and better!

Great video and editorial that I'll be sending to friends from now on that struggle to understand the appeal of DS games. Its also a testament to FromSoftware's design that I still learned a couple new things from this video (cinematic that also shows the path to Undead Burg, for example).
Also this helps to illustrate why the Capra Demon fight is so difficult-tightly confined area without a ton of room to maneuver that causes the camera to absolutely spaz out. Never had a video game enrage me more than that boss fight. Not ashamed to admit I finally just stood outside the area and spammed firebombs to defeat it.

There is a reason why these games continue to acquire more fans and still be popular as time goes by. Dark Souls is immortal, almost every year, you'll see comments on Twitter saying "I should have played this game back then" or "why haven't I played this game before". For me, you feel the love and respect given by the developers towards the player. I am not treated like a wimpy b!+ch like many other games does. With Dark Souls, I am treated like an elite, capable of beating whatever hardships is thrown against me.

    Favourites from each Soulsborne title:
Demon's Souls - Tower of Latria
Not a difficult level by any means, nor does it have any of the more interesting enemy designs. But what it has is interesting layout, very distinct visual look and atmosphere. It feels like a Silent Hill level in an action rpg. The first level contains tight claustrophobic hallways while the second is mostly made of narrow pathways without any walls to prevent you from falling, resulting with a sort of a reverse feeling of claustrophobia. If only the bosses were also fun, but at least Maneaters are threatening, and Old Monk can occasionally be a fun pvp fight.
    Dark Souls - Oolacile
While I don't really care for the forest before, the township is filled to the brim with interesting enemy placements, surprisingly aggressive enemies that love to catch you off guard with their hyperarmour, and then it turns out you're not even at the end when you find a big wide hall. While the humanities aren't the most riveting enemies in the second half, they do add much to the atmosphere and overall mystery of the game's world building. And the boss fight with Manus is the best the game has on offer.
    Dark Souls 2 - Shulva
I'll be blunt, I really dislike Dark Souls 2. But its first dlc surprised me quite pleasantly with its more puzzle focused level design. The progression is much more about paying attention to surroundings and traps rather than just simply fighting some less than stellar enemies, and the dlc enemies actually aren't that bad either, working as a nice extension of the level's own obstacles. There's also a nice sense of verticality to the whole city, which makes exploring it enjoyable. Having enjoyed the classic Tomb Raider games, this area felt like a Tomb Raider level in Dark Souls which was something I never knew I had wanted. If only the bosses were as fun, but oh well. At least the second dlc had Fume and Alonne. If only its level design had also been good...
    Bloodborne - Fishing Hamlet
While not long, it has some tightly designed spots and the most enjoyable enemies in the whole game, especially the boss. While I enjoy Research Hall as an exploration focused level, I don't find its varied enemies as fun as the fishmen of the Hamlet. The shark giants especially feel like the most satisfying endgame enemy the game can throw at you. And again, Orphan of Kos is the best boss they've made so far.
Dark Souls 3 - Ringed City
While the city itself should've been a bit bigger in my opinion, as exploring through its vertical streets was fun, the overall mix of cool enemies and strange scenarios is what makes this level stand out to me. The ringed knights are the best knight type enemy in the game, and the knight enemies were already the best type in my opinion, the Haralds are a fun threatening giant humanoid type, and you even get a rematch with Dragonslayer Armour's second phase! And of course the bosses are some of the best the game has on offer. Halflight is also there, but like Old Monk, it all depends on the player opponent as the npc is kinda dull.

It was amazing how the game taught you without on the nose tutorials. It was so rewarding.
When I reached the Gaping Dragon, I could actually read it by them, defeating it in the first try (or maybe 10th.... 20th.... But still so much better than that bloody minotaur when you don't know you could climb the towers 😄)
