On regen you're missing the point, it has auto regen which coasts by default but boosts regen when it sees junctions speed limits etc. There's a symbol on the dash that tells you when to lift your foot off the pedal. It's more efficient to coast than to use power then recover just some of it via regen.
@@ABusAndBeyond There is already a version being offered, I think even by VW themselves. You have a kitchen unit in that space under the load floor which can have a cooker, sink and water canister, albeit very basic. Then there is a specially designed mattress that goes in the load area and folds up to allow the seats to be flipped up again. Looked nice, but it was pretty expensive.
I have mine coming on the 15 Dec. I had to change the paint from two tone to single starlight blue to get my first edition on time but after watching this video I think it will be ok
Great review, love the Buzz and can’t wait for the California, although road noise did seem to be loud on your commentary. I guess the best way to find out is to test drive one 👍
Like the look very much. I’m not so keen on the white either, prefer the bottom colour all over. How long do they take to fully charge and any idea of the costs? Cheers for good video. Luke.
Nice video Shaun (as always!), though I must admit I was very disappointed to hear such loud 'tyre' or road noise from an EV - my Mercedes diesel is quieter, though I accept your microphone may have been exaggerating that somewhat. Do you know if there is a glass roof option as per the Caddy Cali? Cheers
It was definitely exaggerated by the microphone. It was a real surprise when we came to edit the video. Not sure about a glass roof. Maybe that’ll come in the future
Great review as always, I love the look, a modern classic, it is too expensive for what it is, I just watched a 70 mph test and the range was disappointing, I would love a 7 seat / pop top beach option at current prices but it is a rich-volks-wagon....
Nice review. Just something I would like to point out : It is really bad practice to park on a charger when you are not using it, under any circumstance. Sets a bad example for people who are not used to driving EVs or charging. Please keep chargers free, even if there is noone around.
I have a new t6.1 2022 transporter 204 dsg lwb on swamper suspension and tyres, on a full tank of fuel cost 160 pounds I can get 430 miles when fully loaded for a weeks camping trip .realistically how much would it cost to charge an ID buzz from a motorway charging station to cover the same distance .many thanks in advance 👍
At the most expensive motorway chargers you’re probably looking around 70p per kWh which works out around £110 in this vehicle to do your 430miles. However charging at home like we do for our Tesla on a low rate overnight tariff would cost £4 for the initial charge, giving around 220 real world miles and then you’d have to charge on route for the rest of the journey. When you’re not camping and using it as an everyday vehicle, you can charge at home, that is when the “fuel” savings take effect.
I find it odd that this model isn’t a 7 seater - that boot even looks like it has arm rests in the back for a rear bench seat (and the rails in the boot could support seats. Seems a missed opportunity
I give VW credit for the Buzz but the design is not my kind of thing a bit like the relaunch of the Beetle. I'm a fan EV's but I'd rather have this technology in the T6.1. I really like your Beach layout but it looks like the Buzz is a 3/4 scale of the Transporter so can't see a Buzz Califonia happening.
The price for an EV is ridiculous and with VED and LUXURY TAX I will stay with my diesel,620 p/tank,£30 VED.did the place that had charging run out of roof,no protection whilst walking inside ? Considering its ev means you can walk away and get coffee but get wet if it's raining,vw is crap for info system, lack of physical buttons NO NO NO.
The Multivan is OK, but the Buzz quickly resembles a clowns car. Fun for children, but to drive around in it yourself all day... Nein Danke! Furthermore, the Buzz is very expensive. A little dressed up, two tone paint + nice wheels, quickly towards the 70-75K...Sehr teuer!!!
Absolute flop as a 5 seater. Clearly they won’t bring it to the US in that short wheelbase as it would sell poorly at a high price and small interior. What a shame. Also why would an electric van NOT have electric sliding doors? Wow
The one my wife has ordered (that will become our only vehicle) has electric seats that can automatically adjust for two separate drivers, but manual sliding and rear doors. Why? because children, other people, even pets and cargo sometimes move unexpectedly close to a door. I like to pretend that I have better control over the situation, when I close a door manually. Our salesperson emphasized that people grow tired of having to wait for a slow moving door to close.
No modern vehicle in this category has a proper engine anymore. I wish it was like an RC Car but those power trains are too dangerous and overkill powerful. Just scaling up an RC Car using Lithium Polymer Battery and some crazy power dense brushless motors it would have roughly over 1,000hp. Nothing like your weak fragile "proper" engine.
It is generally known that there is a bit more CO2 produced in the manufacture of an EV compared to the ICE equivalent. BUT those savings are lost as soon as you put fuel into the ICE and start using it. After 10,000 miles, EV will have produced less CO2 compared to the ICE. Of course if the intention is to be environmentally friendly, then you walk everywhere instead.
@@watcher24601 Up to 35 tons of NEW carbon are generated to manufacture an EV depending on model. Apparently. Anybody give accurate figures? Best thing to do is keep your current vehicle running and not purchase a new one every 5 minutes.
@@homegrowndrone2804 Unfortunately that is a myth that keeps circulating, have a look at TH-cam channel Plug Life Television. Gives figures based on industry information for a comparison of EV to ICE CO2 production from manufacturing to 160,000 miles driven. Worse case producing an ICE is 10 tonnes CO2, an EV is 17 tonnes for manufacture. Over 160,000 miles on UK grid EV produces an additional 10 tonnes CO2. Average new ICE over 160,000 miles produces 32 tonnes CO2 assuming the fuel just appears in the car without any processing needed. Keeping your old car instead is fine, just don't put any fuel into it.
Alternatively, if you like your old car/van, just keep than one and forget about the CO2. It's too late to make much of a difference now unless other countries get involved and agree to make changes

Would love to see a third party camper conversion on this.

Thanks for watching. Yeah that’s an annoying “feature” of our microphone. It’s definitely nowhere near the volume our microphone made it out to be
@@ABusAndBeyond oh no, not good.
At a guess, how much narrower is the Buzz against a T6.1?

Surely the caddy Cali is the test bed for for the id California? Ie the rear kitchen etc
Why did VW decide not to make the rear windows capable of rolling down? Only the front windows can be roll down? Why?

We did wave at the other Buzz press cars but no one waved back 😂🤙

Can the Buzz do even one-half of what the Vanagon can ?? -------> th-cam.com/video/wJnRCm-Uml4/w-d-xo.html
It can do far more and is alot more comfortable than that tin can on wheels.
Buzz off! I will never be able to afford one. Great video though.

I’m not interested until they put a glass /sunroof as an option.
Side view looks a lot like a big citroen ami but with a ridiculous price tag.
I own a t6.1 cali coast. I will not be replacing mine for the electric cali. Terrible concept
VW cancels the Electric ID Buzz California
Interior compromised. Multivan much more versatile. Not sure why they’ve done that? Shame.

"2.9 miles per kWh" x 77 kWh is .... 223 miles?
It was doing 2.9 at that moment but it’s not always driving at 2.9. That was not an average.
Absolutely vile!
Is there not a proper engine option ? Or are they all rc vehicles ?
They are all EV only
Plus you have to drive them yourself, no remote or self driving currently available (also no "proper" exhaust, gears, clutch or brake wear)
