- Introducing the all-new Volkswagen ID Buzz!
It’s a family-friendly people carrier that’s out to buck the trend of MPVs being ugly and uncool. The question is, has it been successful?
Well for starters, let’s check out the design, where it’s clear to see that the ID Buzz easily stands out among the crowd! Not only does it look great in this two-tone paint job, but there are a number of exterior features that help enhance its look and feel even more. Around the back, you’ve got wrap-around tail lights and a full-length light bar along with a mini spoiler. There are big creases all along the side, and the wrap-around headlights up top mirror what you see around the back. There’s also a super cool grille design, coupled with the largest VW badge in its entire range!
The good looks continue on the inside, too. There’s the option to have the same two-tone design as found outside, and there are a number of cool little features on the dash and in the door pockets that really lift the look and feel. The dash has a big infotainment screen, although the system isn’t that great. On the flip side, though, the interior is packed full with loads of different storage areas.
When it comes to performance, the ID Buzz comes with a single electric motor driving the rear wheels to deliver 204hp. It comes with a 77kWh battery pack which is good for a claimed range of 258 miles. A dual-motor edition is on the way, too, which will be good for 299hp.
All-in-all the ID Buzz will start from £57,000. But what do you think - is it worth it? Or does it just look a bit too weird for your liking? Let us know in the comments!

Mat has to be the happiest man alive right now. It shows in his work. The level of humor he puts into these nowadays is on another level. It almost feels like am watching one of those Netflix comedy specials and totally forget its a car review. We called these 'combi' buses back in the 90s. I've vague memories of that rubber thingy and this video brought them right back! Cool car though

With the Model 3 also coming in below 40k, it’s understandable that a reasonable person might expect a price tag around that
@@NateBee the ID 4 cost more than £40k so I don't think it is reasonable to expect this to he priced at that level. Also isn't the Tesla over £40k and that is a sedan so not directly comparable.
As someone who is a car salesman in a VW dealership, I love the ID Buzz so much.
As a former flat rate mechanic at VW & MB dealers and independent shops, my $0.02 worth is that VW should make it into a hybrid to solve the range issue and sell it as the VW SuperBus. And maybe make a high margin version with crazy power and call it the VW SuperBus Plus. (Complete with a multi sport roof rack. Surf City USA lol.)

The ID Buzz should have 3 individual seats in the back and 3 iSO fix points.
One of the reasons you would buy this type of vehicle could be because you have more than 2 kids. The Sharan had these features...
It needs a longer range too.

The GTI Golf I bought in Germany when I lived there, had an ash tray. I took it out and gave it to my friend who used it. It was good for him because it would fit in almost any car cup holder.

I love the ID buzz, but for that amount of money I would expect some more premium features, specially the infotainment and some of the trimming.
The trunk is huge, but the double floor solution is kind of a DIY looking one. No vents in the back??? And there should be a powerful 220V outlet, ao you can power stuff directly from the car battery.
I really like it, but it's overpriced and short on quality in bits and pieces here and there. I will definitely wait longer, so that batteries get to another level of longevity and range, and some of this trims are improved.

Vents in back will come with the refresh to bring in more buyers....or it may just be reserved for the camper or long wheelbase version.

It is a bit of shame that the Japanese manufactures don't introduce their MPVs from Japan. They are really very practical. Even though the ID Buzz has some features which exists in Japanese MPVs, it is still a long way to be as practical as them, but tbh the ID Buzz really looks sooooo cool!

We get them. And as you said, they are a million times better and practical than the ID. Plus their Hybrid & PHEV are soooo darn easy on fuel. A fully loaded one with all luggage & passengers in the hybrid one will give you around 15 kmpl in city

@@sayyedameerarkhisro1464 the problem is people in the West generally don't like MPVs. They simply wouldn't sell in large numbers. That isn't what Western consumers want.
I absolutely love the ID Buzz and I reckon its a future classic!
That being said, for a fully electric vehicle that is VW's latest creation, I would have like to see more options - bigger driver display, bigger & better infotainment system, the option to add screens in the rear, more interior and exterior colour options, opening rear windows, a big moon roof, 180 degree rotating seats and maybe even a split tailgate too.
Just think they missed some tricks there really.
The ID Buzz may cost $88k.
The infotainment system and drivers display are shocking for a 2023 car and ESPECIALLY a German brand. They look so tiny and cheap like they're from an entry level Japanese car

With not a huge amount of thought this could have been outstanding, but it's small flaws will be extremely annoying.
That sliding door seal will be a mess after repeated use.
It's very unlike the concept which is disappointing. An ID4 is a lot less and does more or less the same. I am sure they will be popular with people who wear fat face and crew clothing
TBH none of these electric cars will be future classics.

Finally! Someone who can review a car from a USING point of view instead of a "show off to the boys" point of view. Not all of us spend our time commuting to the golf course. Some of us have jobs and families and volunteer work which means the vehicle needs to keep up with speed of our lives, not the other way around. Thank you for an excellent review.

I have those USB fans for cooling behind a pc. They work on the USB charging ports! So everyone gets their own USB fan!
@@tpillertotally agree that many problems can be solved with accessories 3rd party, but for that price point you’d hope things like AC vents wouldn’t be something you have to fix.

Coming from a VW T4 owner and being a part of the Camper fan base, I know there are a lot of purists that hate on this, however, I'd happily see myself in one of these in the years down the line, it ticks all the boxes of what it's bloodline great grandad did from the beginning. Can't wait to see how the custom campers will look, let alone what the in house version will be like.
Very much has grown on me a lot, saw one at BusFest in Malvern a few months back, and adored it!
Really, so you would be happy to pay around £100,000 for the camper version of this.

The old Volswagen Kombi/T2/Bus was produced in Brazil until 2014 and was an absolute success. It only went out of production when airbags and ABS became mandatory. I would love to see the VW Buzz around here, but I imagine it will be very expensive being electric.

I wasn`t sure about the design but I have seen them around now a few times and they are quite funky looking. Maybe I´ll upgrade my Arteon SB to this

As a t6.1 camper owner. Love this, can’t wait to see the camper version!

Would have been nice to have a sunroof to both let some light in and some air, including for the rear passengers who can’t open their windows. And for that price, should be included. But love the exterior styling.

Try and buy any large ICE car with good spec for 30k ffs. At least be realistic. No medium to large cars cost 25k anymore. Stop cappin.

Just would like to add a big thanks to make these videos kid friendly to the point that my 4 Year old loves to watch them as they are so full of "kid-like" gestures and reactions. Funny enough to also make me giggle ! (not a boring road test !)
As for the car (haha), total coolness indeed, this is in my opinion, like many below, the highlight of this vehicle, super practical and simple. Pricy ?! Yes, I guess Japanese will make their own cheaper version with all the bells and whistles, but it is a Wolks afterall, they are always in between the cheap and the luxurious but closer to the luxurious "feel".
Congrats again to allow me to watch a "guy" show with my little ones. Keep it up.

Hi Mat, great video as always. There’s one thing I take issue with, not only with you but with the brands and other reviewers also: you get the most expensive and fully loaded cars that manufactures give you, yet always state the base version price of that model. In reality, especially with the German brands, it’s often time 10-20k more for a comparable car.

I love how all the materials are recycled. To improve its virtues, there should be recycling badges all over the car too, in addition to the little ID Buzzes. I wouldn't mind talking about all the recycling badges when I transport people.

I love mats reviews, never fails to put a smile on my face, about the ID buzz, it does look somewhat cool but it’s overpriced and VW is becoming a budget brand with its recent build quality
VW always have been a budget brand.
Almost every company's build quality is shite anymore. My new benz feels cheap. Seats are crap. Keyless entry works less than half the time while my previous two E classes felt bank vault solid. Ditto for bmw.

Design suits the character of vehicle... definitely the saving grace in the ID range...
Should have done a diesel version of this buzz too.. that would sell bucket loads..
Despite some of the build issues I love this vehicle, it reminds me of the 1966 VW van I owned when I was a student. Unfortunately this modern version is priced like the Porsche I could only dream about back then.

So a bone stock eBus which (in Germany) starts at 62k€ even, is pretty not worth it.
Especially since you can get many other slightly less practical BEV's for similar money which perform better.

I miss how in the early 2000's i feel like most cars had those picnic tables and when my family had the VW Sharan, i miss particularly those times when we ate McDonalds with my sisters whilst our parents fed themselves on our way tothe winter vacation we used to go to every winter
I'd definitely buy one of these if I had the money! Also, this is a really great vehicle for being a campervan and I hope it comes soon! Still, the price is too high, and now the government wants to tax electric vehicles from 2025!

I love your review and I love you humour. I want the Buzz for my next and probably last vehicle. I guess when the introduce the next Buzz some of those weird things will disappear (like real buttons). Ya the graphics are kind of dumb but I love the huge VW badges. I have owned two VWs (57 Bug and '05 Golf TDI (current with 470k km) and would not hesitate to buy this BUZZ (with extended range and dual motors camper version).

Maybe someone pointed this out already, but here goes: the three "graphics" on the back column are referencing the air intakes of the original VW Bus, which had an air cooled rear engine

I’m reminded of the ‘new’ Beetle and there is a real danger that this will go the same way. Apart from range issues and it’s ‘retro cool’ (doubtful). The price tag alone will put people off and no doubt there will be a shortage and a queue of customers - for a short time. Also a pity VW don’t put some of this creativity into some of their other products. I’d like to try it, but not buy it.

Paying around $65,000 dollars for a range barely above 200 miles is very hard to justify on nostalgia! I suspect by the time this arrives in California, there will be more alternatives from BYD and other OEMs. Heck, when Hyundai Custo goes electric, it will easily kill ID Buzz for the masses.
