The 2023 US Open main draw runs from August 28 - September 10 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament takes place for the 143rd time and is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. Last year, Spain's Carlos Alcaraz and Poland's Iga Swiatek claimed the men's and women's singles titles. It was both players' first US Open title, with Alcaraz winning his first Grand Slam title and Swiatek winning her third Grand Slam title. This year, at the US Open, we’re set for another historic tournament as the world’s best tennis players head to New York. I'm glad that Coco didn't get hot too early, despite lofty expectations. I feel like she needed the time to mature as a player, and she has. Watching her today, intelligently adapt to Aryna's style of play, I can see that she has so much potential. As long as she keeps playing for her and discounts the expectations of others, she's going to go from strength to strength. That was an incredible match up with brilliant plays from both Aryna and Coco. It was a match truly worthy of being a final match.

I'm so glad Coco won. All Sabalenka could do was hit the ball harder and harder. She wasn't thinking, she couldn't produce different spin. Coco played smart. She let sabalenka hit herself into Oblivion to the point when she was so exhausted she just started making crazy errors
That’s Sabalenka’s problem, she can hit hard like Serena(cool!) but she does not have her shot variety.
I totally agree with that. Sabalenka will either hit an awesome winner or an unforced error.
Yep you got that right on Sabalenka, full of power less on varieties very predictable returns.
She wasn't tired, just doubts creeping in. The audience cheering every unforced error and double fault certainly drained her as well. The real problem is she can't adapt her playing style if her A game doesn't work.

Today's match and Coco's playing style today is so convincing of the power of defense. She did not get many clear winners but she forced a lot of errors out of Sabalenka by "simply" tracking the ball down and putting it back in the other court. Sabalenka was visibly super frustrated to get a shot to go through Coco. Seeing Coco everywhere she hit induced a lot of desperate high risk shots from Sabalenka and ultimately resulted in Coco's victory. I generally like the playing style of of being aggressive and going for winners but that may not suit if the opponent is a much bigger hitter. So what Coco did today to fend off Sabalenka is an amazing example of how to handle opponents who are overpowering with their shot making. I see similar defensive traits in Medvedev. So tomorrow's match can get very interesting. I feel like I learned something new today, both in tennis and in life (in times of extreme adversity that we cannot control, hang in and persist). Thanks Coco!

Thanks. I watched in-person this young lady win the Cincinnati Masters final on 8/20, turns out her first 1000 points tournament win. So to see her on TV win her first grand slam two week later is so satisfying. Hope she does well in the future too.

She’s very special. I watched the Finals and I watched her playing on TV for years and thought she’d be up there someday and I was not mistaken and was rooting for her with me alone in my room watching and yelling 😂. In this interview, she expresses herself with wisdom, intelligence in an articulate fashion and that’s impressive with her age. She is an inspiration at a young age. Her tribute to the Williams Sisters is it for me.
She channeled Venus throughout this match. and became masterful at turning defense into offense.. she varied the speed in the all the exchanges in that second set which is completely frustrating for a big hitter and those unforced errors kept creeping. The pre-match 'Tale-Of-The-Tape' segment they listed the usual areas- Forehand, Backhand, Serve, Volley, Power, etc.. but they didn't list Heart. Well done Coco!! BRAVO.

I remember when Venus and Serena came on the scene. The announcers where blatantly making racist and disparaging comments. Some of the players where aggressive towards them. Some of the fans were being racist. One time a player purposely bumped Venus on a change over. It was a very shameful disgusting time for tennis but Venus and Serena ultimately prevailed and made their way to the top. They literally elevated women's tennis by changing it into a more athletic power game. Coco thanked them for their mental toughness, their focus, their ambition, their hard work and their amazing talent. They endured the ridiculous and the unimaginable while paving the way for her to just focus on being a champion.
I've enjoyed Coco's journey to winning the 2023 US Open and listening to her put into words her struggles and triumphs along the way. Congratulations Coco, I cannot wait to celebrate future accomplishments with you!!!!! 🎾
