      Thanks Paul. Luckily I have a balsa bashing fb. Good job too as she needed more repairs after this flight th-cam.com/video/RvuTjeppHvw/w-d-xo.html She now has a smaller recessed main wheel in the hope she'll slide rather than dig in and flip

    It was a fantastic video until that point Andy, sorry about the crash. Really hope it can be repaired.

      +Neil Wildy Thanks Neil. Perhaps I should stick to models that bounce or at least stay away from scale gliders. Their tapered wings make them more prone to tip stalling. Lost my 2.4m Jantar to the same fate and almost the same crash site. It was higher so the destruction was terminal. The BFG shouldn't suffer from the same issues.

    for the Landing in that wind you should set the Flaps up. Down Flaps make the Flyer slow but you cannot land it easy as you saw. Or you use the Butterfly Flap position.

      I came in with some crow but had it incorrectly set up with flaps up and ailerons down. This probably caused the tip stall and crash :-(

      @@heady2008 flaps Up and ailerons down + too slow speed to landing was the problem...
      Ailerons down makes the wing go to much fast to stall that a normal position. This and the very slow speed makes the mistake.
      Best of aeromodelling is that you always can learn something new from everywhere....
      Good place to fly, with butterfly system (correctly , ailerons Up not todo the end point, to have something control, and flaps down good, more down more good. A little compensation to elevator down and yo can landing like the best! practice is the best tecnic😉.
      Regards from Spain ✌️

      @@jaimesoberoelviro2498 It was a rookie mistake as previuosly most of my models had been aileron only where just spoilerons were used. Didn't make the same mistake when I set up my Azart-V

    Its known as a stall spin. i.e. turn at or near the stall, dont turn at low airspeeds.

    • @heady2008

      It didn't help that I had the crow braking set up incorrectly with ailerons down and flaps up hence my tip stall comment!

    Sad to see what happened...
    Everything was looking good till landing. Think it was the same problem - too slow...
    Hope that you can fix the wings for having a third flight with your Fox.
    Cheers - Tom

      +Tom ́s RC-Videos I should have forced it down on the prior pass but they have a reputation of a weakness of the main wheel so decided against it. I have a couple of balsa bashers in my club who might be able to repair.

      Also heard about the 'problem' with the main wheel and it seems to be a myth. :)
      Only problem is the material (some kind of foam) of the wheel itself. Mine was damaged at the first landing and I decided to change it. Now I'm using a wheel made of rubber and this should be better.
      Really hope that you or someone else can fix the wings so you can have fun at the slope like in the first minutes of your video.
      Cheers - Tom

    Bad luck with the landing. I fly a fox too and i already had similar situation... but just a bit more luck. Had no damage on it... i hope it flies again.

    • @heady2008
      @heady2008  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      She's flown sine and crashed since!. The landing wheel sticks well below the fuse and dug into tufts of grass on landing. She rotated around this point and smacked a wingtip in. All repaired so she'll fly again

      @RCnerd74 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to know that she will be back in the air :o) that scale wheel is not always a help... i was pretty lucky with the landing on my first flights with my royal model fox. check the video if you like...: th-cam.com/video/KkdTGggqGvM/w-d-xo.html

  • @sparrowlt
    @sparrowlt 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yuo entered landing too far behind the slope.. so you encountered a sudden negative lift and rotor area wich sucks planes down..
    Also it doesnt seem you are using butterfly / crow airbrake.. lowering the flaps and raising the ailerons not only stops it a lot ..but it helps with tipstalls as well

    • @heady2008
      @heady2008  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The slope in that location is rotor free and whilst I was using crow I had incorrectly programmed them. I had the ailerons deflected down and the flaps up which increased the chance of a low airspeed tip stall. I've learned a lot since then :-)

    Happened to me once with an old Dave Bowman Sorcerer. Thought I was just in lift looking to land then wham! Tip stalled into the ground and I had a new kit to build!

      Luckily I have a buddy whose an expert balsa basher so it was mended. The main issue was having the crow incorrectly set up

  • @hooch330
    @hooch330 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    the control surface on these are quite small and on the version i have which has flaps i linked them with my ailerons to give more control on slow final like you had but having bit more control to play with.nice video tho :)

    • @heady2008
      @heady2008  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also have switchable linked flaps to ailerons,snap flaps etc. I think I may have made the mistake of setting up the crow braking with the flaps up and ailerons down. With it's narrow scale wings that was just asking for a tip stall. I've now corrected that and, since the last whoopsie,gone with a recessed smaller main wheel to prevent it stopping abruptly in long grass

    Looks great , I´d be a bit shakey on those slopes lots of water below ,

    • @heady2008
      @heady2008  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lift is so clean coming off the Bristol Channel across from South Wales that I don't think a watering landing out is likely. Even the smaller cliff to the right gave enough lift to let the heavy Fox climb but it was usual to have cheat mode!

    Is forcing it down similar to a final glide path, flare and near-stall landing?

    • @heady2008
      @heady2008  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the case of the Fox, pushing the nose down and coming in a bit hot would have been preferred to the tip stall and crash. My own fault for setting up crow incorrectly

      Might have been the case although i did have the flaps and ailerons mixed together as well. She now has a modified main wheel that's not as tall so hope she won't dig as much on landing

      A bit harsh but might be true certainly as far as programming the radio correctly. I came in with some crow but had it incorrectly set up with flaps up and ailerons down
