    The only people who HAVEN'T crashed an RC plane are those who don't FLY RC planes. Nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about!

    I know you didn’t enjoy this video for very long. But, it’s really informative and relatable for those of us that have only been flying RC for a few months. I’ve had to repair both of my planes after making similar “spatial awareness misjudgments”. And it’s super helpful to have videos like these to use as a reference for the “post mortem”. Seeing what’s repairable and what’s legit toast.
    So, as painful as it was for you, just know I’ll be watching this several times as a second opinion for my own less than perfect landings. Thanks 👍🏼

    Hats off to Camera crew for keeping her cool and keeping the camera on the main man 😎 as much I hate to see u crash Brian I still really enjoy your reactions to it as there's always something to learn from your mistakes, rebuilds, experiences etc. Top bloke 👍🏾

    Brian huge kudos to you for not only owning this up front but keeping your cool and showing us the aftermath. For me I'd use a new carbon wing spar. Good luck with the rebuild.

    My fav thing about Brian is how he proves that you can enjoy this hobby anywhere. He is proof of how to do this safely, in confined spaces, around tons of obstacles, and all with a smile on his face.
    at the old clubs there were always tons of AMA guys yammering about staying clear of obstacles and would probably have an anyeurism if they saw this lol.
    Brian and Camera Crew are the best! thanks for proving this hobby is a fun safe thing for people to enjoy!

    That tree seems to like any plane named after an animal. Eagle, fox...
    I crashed the FMS 1400 mm P-40. Very sad. Took off and turned to cross wind when one of the three prop blades broke off. Plane shook like crazy, ejecting the canopy and chewing up the cowling. I had very little altitude in order to turn back to the runway, landed hard and split the fuselage into two pieces. That was last summer. I made repairs over the winter, reshaped the damaged cowl with lightweight spackle, matched the color (as much a a colorblind guy can), and have already flown it again this season.
    I love this hobby because flying is super fun (and really the only way for colorblind folks) and most times repairs can get you back into the air again. Also, I purchased that plane after seeing your video of it!

  • @BiffSkeffington
    @BiffSkeffington ปีที่แล้ว +4

    For what it's worth, it made me feel better seeing you make the same "scale" mistake I made last year. I was used to flying small to mid-sized stuff and I switched to a SkyHunter. I did EXACTLY the same thing - because it was bigger than my usual faire I thought I was past the tree but wasn't!! Great reminder - thanks Brian and Camera Crew!

    Classic! "...evidently, it was just a little tighter than anybody thought..." LOL Love it!!
    Yeah, keep showing us these kinds of "real world" scenarios!
    I'm a little bit sick of seeing only good flights from most TH-camrs. I WANT to see "oopses". I WANT to see mistakes. I WANT to see mechanical or electronic failures. I WANT to see the results of poor judgement or even just bad luck....because that stuff actually happens to US out here in the real world.
    So YES! Keep this up. Love seeing your post-crash evaluations of 1) how it happened and how you'd avoid it in the future, 2) what all was damaged and what is repairable, etc.
    Thanks. Keep up the great work.

  • @snoriverrc3842
    @snoriverrc3842 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    A nice dose of realism :) I thought it held up really well for a 40 foot drill bitting. I know you must have all the parts in the basement, unless you gave your old Foxes away. A little China glue and that wing will be stronger than it was before. I'd remove the prop and make sure the motor and mount are good. I'm just shocked the fuse in the canopy area didnt break.
    I had a Banana Hobby Super Sky Surfer lose the elevator servo at 399 feet, and it went straight down and literally exploded into 10 million foam bits. Thats my favorite crash.

    @lorrainewilson7695 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There is only one type of RC pilot, those that have had a crash and those that are going to have a crash. This is a real testament to the build quality of FMS aircraft, when you hit that hard they usually become an organ donor’. Personally I would like to see a video of you repairing and re flying the Fox because I always learn something to try when attempting to resuscitate my next brain fade.

    • @Navigator777777
      @Navigator777777 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great point.
      Dad was a bomber pilot. Naturally I was into planes. As I got older, he always asked what kind of flying interested me. He expected me to join the Air Force or get a commercial license.
      My answer was always Crop Dusting. I like low and slow. His wrinkled face every time I uttered those two words convincing me to seek another career. Tugboats! Far more lucrative.
      "There is only one type of tug skipper, those that have had a crash and those that are going to have a crash."
      We were like Saltwater Cowboys in the business of getting beat up.
      Everything about this plane is exciting. Can't wait until I have a parts plane! ;-)

  • @darrinmarley6252
    @darrinmarley6252 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I had a similar crash with mine,wing come unplugged and lost control of one wing with control locked one way. Broke wing tube and sheared off mounting tabs on fuse. Had to fabricate new wing tabs and replace wing tube. It's one of my favorite planes to fly. The fox takes alot of room to land,very tight landing at your house,make sure you got all the flap you can get. Me and my buddy Brian had fun hanging with you and camera crew at Joe Nall. Get that bird back in the air.

    I was flying my Eratix the other day near sunset. I lost orientation for a little while I couldn't tell whether I was going away from me or towards me. It kept getting further away from me all I could see was the outline of it. Luckily it's a slow flyer with a lot of rudder authority. I kept turning with the rudder until I could tell which direction it was pointing and worked it back towards me.

    • @Navigator777777

      I had my Night Radian out yesterday in front of an approaching T-Storm. Kinda got into trouble low, hit the throttle and goosed it way up high. Next thing I knew my plane was pointed at me but rocketing further away and going up as if under power. It was getting sucked up. Full throttle aimed straight down got it out of the giant sucking cloud just it time. I almost lost sight of the thing reminding of my youth in the 60's losing free flight models.

  • @Killerplanes
    @Killerplanes ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I thought I could hear Mister Bill on that approach- “Oh noooooooooooooo” (and, by the by, I HATE it when that happens! I thought I was way past that tree!! I’ll bet your mind told you it WAS way past the tree because of how big it looked in the sky-)

    If it makes you feel any better I flew my 1700mm PA-18 into the side of my house flying at dusk and misjudging distance on a landing approach. It was a big bang. The great thing about foam is it was all repairable and only cost me a new spinner and back plate for the prop.

    My most embarrassing learning experience was with my 1100mm FMS Hawker typhoon.
    Because I fly over a farmer's field without a Runway I have to hand launch and belly land everything.
    Maiden flight....
    All the control surfaces were checked.
    Grabbed her by her chin scoop and gave her a toss.
    When I brought my hand back down to the stick I accidentally hit the flap switch and engaged full flaps.
    She went about 15 maybe 20 feet before she rolled right and nose down into the ground.
    Broke prop and nose cone.
    Split the fuselage in half.
    And broken starboard wing to boot
    Needless to say, I moved that switch to the left hand side because I'm a right-hand pincher.
    An easy repair with toothpicks and a lick of paint.
    Been flying or ever since.
    Heck lighters built very Solid. 4 as hard as it hit that tree and went down, the damage was minimal.

    I've looked all over TH-cam and the web for somebody with a Fox 3000 doing some actual slope soaring..."Woah! Fudge Packer!" I've seen nada. Saw some guys doing FPV with a Fox 3000, which seems cooler than cool. They were only doing cross country. You happy with the 6S 5000 battery, Brian? What other battery choices for just a wee lighter plane??
    Love your humor and Family Guy worthy innuendo. Pulling the plug for one of these soon.

      I want sooooo badly to slope this plane!!!!! It would be orgasmicly good, but since the Army Corp of Engineers basically own the Dams around here, we don't have a lot of great choices ;( BUTTTTT we do have one about 3.5 hours away. We might need to get out there and fly it again!

      I live in the Okanogan Valley in Washington State. Every direction I look there are hills perfect for slope soaring. I can slope soar my driveway, our shop and the rows of hay in farmer's fields. I agree with you, videoing a glider soaring in blue sky lacks a little curb appeal. But I couldn't find anybody on TH-cam with a Fox 3000 actually exploiting the glider's features on the slopes. I'm not a Utuber but perhaps I will find a Camera Crew of my own? Speaking of exploitation, are you in need of an official original custom designed BrianPhillipsRC Fudge Packer™ sticker?
