ABOUT
This is the third lesson in the Christmas edition of my Learn Russian with movies series, and today we´ll be watching a clip from the Home Alone movie. If you ever turn on a Russian TV channel in December, there is a good chance they´ll be playing this comedy.
You´ll watch the clip three times. First, you’ll watch it with Russian subtitles. Then, we’ll look at each phrase individually. I´ll read it to you in slow Russian a couple of times, you´ll see the English translation on the screen and I´ll explain the most difficult words and phrases. Finally, we’ll watch the clip again but this time without Russian subtitles. By then, you should be able to easily understand most of what is said in the movie.
Just a reminder that all December on this channel we ´ll be watching Christmas movies in Russian with Russian subtitles and this is already the third movie that we´ve watched together this month. Leave a comment below with your suggestions on which movie I should use next for my series Learn Russian through Movies.

Absolutely LOVED this, especially because I am so familiar as an American with this movie. It made it much easier to listen and understand the broader meaning of the words but also the emotion. It was the first time I ever had a really deep emotional associated with understanding spoken Russian. And the emotion really helps solidify those words into my mind and heart. Thank you!

Miss Christina, i appreciate you teaching, i find your ways of teaching being very helpful to me, because generally am learning Russian, but am truly struggling with the listening aspect, its like i can't get exactly what Russians will be saying.
It takes time to develop listening skills, you´ll get there over time!
Appreciate your efforts in the works for bringing up this kind of language learning. I believe this is an excellent approach for language learning. It would be more helpful if there was hover over the words option on the subtitles/translation similar to karaoke. Thanks

Loving these videos. My question is do you think it would be easier to start thinking in Russian in order to speak better, to translate the words exactly. What I mean is english speakers have so many articles of speech to use. But I find from studying russian, sentences are more simply constructed. Take example someday, somehow..which is how an English speaker would say, but the russian is when-day, where-day....I just wonder if sentence and grammar would come to me more fluently if I could mirror my thought process with the language more. Understand how you make sentences.
I don´t think it makes sense to translate word for word. Each language has its own structure, and it´s much better to get accustomed to that structure right from the start rather than trying to compare it to the flow of your own language
