In the phrase "придздние того" - I notice that the "г" in "того" sounds like it's being pronounced like a Russian "в" - or the "v" sound rather than the hard "g" sound that I learned was the sound for the letter "г". Am I hearing this right? Or is there some rule that causes the letter to change its sound to a "v" sound? Thanks.
Yes, you´re hearing this right! In some words, г is pronounced as в. Read this thread to see in what words it normally happens russian.stackexchange.com/questions/14448/why-is-the-letter-%D0%B3-in-some-of-the-russian-words-pronounced-differently-as-it
@Fra Goesh Russians will understand you even if you say g instead of v, o -> a, even if you pronounce the words as they are spelled, without softening them like the Russians do. It is just a kind of accent that has become the official Russian language.
I love that by helping us learn Russian you also help us understand Putin in his own words. The more westerners do that, the more chance we have of improving international relations - whether we trust his words or not. Please do all his speeches this way! You are contributing to world peace!

Спасибо!
And that´s exactly why I like using his speeches in my lessons! He does talk clearly and slowly which makes it easy for Russian learners to understand him
In the phrase "придздние того" - I notice that the "г" in "того" sounds like it's being pronounced like a Russian "в" - or the "v" sound rather than the hard "g" sound that I learned was the sound for the letter "г". Am I hearing this right? Or is there some rule that causes the letter to change its sound to a "v" sound? Thanks.
Yes, you´re hearing this right! In some words, г is pronounced as в. Read this thread to see in what words it normally happens russian.stackexchange.com/questions/14448/why-is-the-letter-%D0%B3-in-some-of-the-russian-words-pronounced-differently-as-it
что нового
shto novava
'в' and 'г' are pronounced same
@Fra Goesh Russians will understand you even if you say g instead of v, o -> a, even if you pronounce the words as they are spelled, without softening them like the Russians do. It is just a kind of accent that has become the official Russian language.
It also applies to words like ничего (nichevo) = nothing, and also in the 2nd line, 2nd stanza of Катюша (про степного сизого орла)
Does this dash (-) between words are important?, What is it's purpose please??
I loved learning Russian with President Putin! 😍
wow this format is perfect
Glad it worked for you, Brendan!
I love that by helping us learn Russian you also help us understand Putin in his own words. The more westerners do that, the more chance we have of improving international relations - whether we trust his words or not. Please do all his speeches this way! You are contributing to world peace!
This method is valuable to me, thx.
Thank you so much, hoping for more videos like this.. love it ❤

Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Thank you for this lesson. I'm wondering about the use of the phrase "doomed to success". Is it a Russian idiom or just the way Putin chose to put it?
Hi Adam! "Обречён на успех" is a common phrase that´s worth learning by heart. The opposite is "обречён на провал". For example, эта идея была обреченá на успех (провал) с самого начала.
Well... it isnot an idiom. It is a putdiom
In English, we would say destined or fated to succeed.
@@songcasserole3773 Thanks - after reading other comments it sounds like "fated" is the word with the closest connotation - definitely not an exact translation.
It's interesting how trying to translate can be fraught with pitfalls. One word Putin once used to describe Donald Trump was "яркий" which translates as something like bright or colorful or even flamboyant but Trump took it to mean bright as in intelligent.
Learning Russian and you popped all you now have a loyal subscriber. Spasibo Sistra.. Davai!
Thank you! 😃
