This is the first review of yours I've watched as I just ordered an m340i in the US and thought I'd get your take. I appreciate your insights. That said, I'm glad you corrected your statement that this car has measurable performance enhancements compared to the "standard" m340i. I'm not sure why you found this car to "feel significantly stonger" and that "there is absolutely a noticeable difference with more punch and responsiveness..." Also, tire sidewall numbers are NOT the height in MM, rather the ratio of the sidewall to the width of the tire. This is a 2020, not a 2021. You can tell by the Start/Stop button which was dropped in 2021 with the addition of the 48V light hybrid.
The only thing that kind of sucks about the MPE is that they were not equipped with driver assistance pro. No lane keep assist, lane change assist and no adaptive cruise control. At least they have adaptive suspension otherwise it would be a hard pass regardless how great nardo grey looks.
I'm a huge BMW fan. I own a 2020 X3 M40i which is a perfect SAV and I've owned a 435i and 335i. Not a fan of the light blue seats but I'm typically not a fan of multi-colored seats
The reviewed model must have been a prototype because it still has the auto start/stop button. M340i went mild hybrid in 2021 and lost the button to turn auto start/stop on or off. The exhaust tone on this particular one also sounds like a 2020 model year. The 2021 M340i sound completely different, far more muted with burbles and pops even with an M performance exhaust.
Great color- wanted to add as a 2011 335 xdrive msport owner the next bmw I will own is this exactly one- certified used .. whe I had a loaner of a 2016 340 I was shocked how much faster and better felt besides steering than my e90 but truth is I love my e90 it has 65k miles now I found it with 9k miles owner it 5 years now and just a fun car and handles so amazing even with blown shocks I can’t wait to get the new bilateins on!
Most likely due to it being x drive. X drive sits a little higher. My wheel gap is significantly more than RWD models and it's very sad 😭. Need some KW coilovers.
Super drive. Bought new end of June 2021. Disaster though with a loose shelf type deep rattle at low speeds. After 3 weeks the BMW garage still cannot locate. Frustrating as hell as it’s a very distracting noise. £64k spec too imagine. My 1967 Ford Anglia never had such frustrating rattles. I know I should never have scrapped that one 🙁
There’s nothing like this BMW always out showing every time it’s just a matter of time before you see other car companies start to head in there direction
The M Performance edition does come with the M performance exhaust. To put the M performance exhaust on a regular M340i would cost lots. I am not sure exact price but I’m guessing $2-4000 Canadian.
@@combinedeffects4799 Na black is boring but probably has best resale. I'd personally go for the cognac. I had the red seats in my 2015 F80 and it was just too much. Black or blue exterior paint with the cognac interior leather man that looks good
@@SkinnySkinch your suggestion is a good one - I am most likely going with Artic Race Blue - I still think the red interior ( now it’s the darker red - Tacoma Red ) is striking especially if the dash isn’t also covered in red ( that might be too much ) in the old 4 series - the seats were red and the dash was red so I could understand how that could be overpowering . However the champagne color for the interior is 2nd in the running . The Artic race blue is more towards grey - that’s why I think it works . The bright blue exterior with red might be silly.

I think something is not right here... This looks to be the 2020 m340i and NOT the 2021 m340i. At 7:47 into the video we can see the Auto Start/Stop button which is not available in the 2021 model. I believe you also mention in the video that this is a 2020. Also, the 2021 model has a mild hybrid system which we should be able to see in the gauge cluster (if you had the 2021 version). Lastly, what is this "Performance Edition". I ordered the 2021 m340i almost 1 month ago (set to receive it in March) and I never heard of this special edition. BTW I also live in Canada.
Hi Francois, Thanks for the comment. It is in fact a 2021 model and the Performance Edition is a very limited run enhancing the M340i. You're right re: me accidentally saying 2020 instead of the correct 2021. Autumn sees the changeover of media fleet vehicles from previous years to the next year, so that was my error - my apologies. I received the spec sheet and had the embargo lifted three weeks ago. I'm not sure when your local BMW dealership (or if, yet) had any Performance Editions in stock or available. My guess is no as to why you hadn't heard of it or why they didn't mention it to you.
@@Modern.Motoring I do not want to be disrespectful here (I did enjoy your video and appreciate the work you have presented) but I have seen and driven a number of 2020 and 2021 m340is during my research before buying the 2021 and the unit you showed has all the signs of the 2020 edition. The differences between the two are subtle but still important. 2021 has a 48V mild hybrid system for smoother start/stops and better acceleration. It therefore removes the start/stop button which your model has in the video. The tuning is slightly different in the 2021 version making it significantly quieter out of the exhaust (very little pops or burbles) unlike the 2020 model.

Ya great video but I do agree with you to me it is more like a 2020 m340i. 2021's gauge cluster looks different in comfort mode and auto start/stop has been removed since hybrid engages in low speed when the engine is in the comfort setting. And it does sounds like 2020 instead of 2021 which is quieter. I think those are actually the only differences between those two model years (plus 2020 was built in German and 2021 in North America, VIN can tell that). HOWEVER, this could be a pre-production car? or something like that so those differences were not there. And this "performance edition" could be his local dealer's thing.
