Great review Nathan. BB 58 Blue is taking off and will need to be in a collection. Thank you very much for being picked for last months swag pack. For comments on you guessed the watch show. The shirt cap can sleeves and stickers are super. Thank you and Jonathan for the great watch information and thoughts. To you all stay healthy and safe.
My Black Bay 58 Blue that I just received is starting off with a story to share. I originally ordered the Black Bay but when my watch arrived in the mail it and I open the box it was a brand new Rolex Pepsi. It was one of those moments when time begins to slow down and the room was spinning. I thought that I hit the lottery unfortunately, I knew it was a mistake. I called my AD to advise them of the error the sales person was in a state of panic. It was truly a surreal moments for both of us. The AD found my watch whereas it was shipped to the wrong person too. The AD is a rather large one, they promised me they would offer the next Pepsi that arrives. I sure hope so, this is my dream watch. Finally, yesterday my Black Bay 58 arrived and I love it. It feels like my 2006 Submariner on the wrist. It’s nearly a perfect watch at this price point.
@@МихаилБабаев-н5ш I sent the Rolex back because it was the right thing to do. I offered to pay for it but the sales rep requested that I return it. I didn’t want the sales rep to be in hot water nor tarnish the relationship with the AD. They have been good to me.
I don't agree that there was anything to ”fix" from the original BB58. They're just different colorways. If you don't like the look of the hour markers and hands, then get the blue variant. But just because you don't prefer something doesn't mean there is something wrong with it.
I own the BB58 black and love it! The new blue version looks to plain and clean . The gold gilt and red pip on black 58 add an incredible warmth to the watch and a classy look .
Agree with all of that. Sold my original 58 black in favour of the blue. The modern aesthetic will serve it well for watch enthusiasts and non enthusiasts. It’s a stunning shade of blue and is more versatile. Love mine.
I recently traded my 1990s Datejust for the BB58 Blue. Some may think I'm nuts (I get it - I probably am nuts), but it wasn't the right watch for me anymore. I couldn't tell time in low light, it needed $1000 in service on a setting pin issue (after it was already fixed once before while under warranty), and just like Nathan said in his anecdote, I had to baby it. The Tudor is bombproof. It's my everyday. I can see it (the lume is incredible and glows all night long) and do everything in it. The dial color is subtle and looks almost black in low light, but pops in the sunshine. I love it!
hey great video, my dealer just rang me with the opportunity to buy the BB 58 blue on a nato... right now with everything going on, I do have the money but i'm nervous as I don't know what the future holds. I really want the watch but I need it to stay above value. do you think this watch will continue to sell over retail and for how long?
If your wrist is 7inch or up, and you aren’t short and skinny, the 41s will look better on you. I have the GMT and love it, the thickness gives presence you want in a tool watch. My son who has 6.5 wrist suits this BB, it’s a great release for lots of guys. I think the gilt one will date badly due to the Fauxtina, but the blue is perfect.
I appreciate that you do call it out as being nit picky, but I do genuinely find it odd criticizing the finishing of a movement that is kept behind a solid case back...like, it’s not as if this has an exhibition case back so what’s the difference? Other than that, absolutely fantastic write up. Cheers
I much prefer the Blue to the original 58. The sportier, summery vibe works well with a nato, so the problem of the faux rivets is removed, and there's no faux-patina anyway, so it just feels like a cool, vintage-inspired, wearable watch. And I agree with your friend's assessment. I have a Sea-Dweller but am looking to sell it. It's just too valuable to knock about in.
Love the 58 but don’t like the gilt in the bezel- don’t mind it on the dial- but just couldn’t pull the trigger on it. I have the ETA Blue and will sell it to fund the BB58 Blue
Well done review! I like the 58 series but I can’t help but think of the other, better options for a similar price. Mainly the Aqua Terra series from Omega which also has an awesome (co-axial master chronometer) and well finished movement. And you can see it!
Love your videos and website. I notice you only have one jaeger “sector dial”. Is this a special edition or limited edition? Love how is looks Might be the coolest looking dress watch I’ve seen. Could you do a review?
The design of the watch where the midcase takes up almost the entire 12.7mm makes it look very thick though. Hiding part of the thickness in the casebook (as the submariner does) would make it look a lot sleeker, even with the newer movement.
I really like the BB58 blue BUT if there is a modern MN Tudor, I think it would look like the blue Pelagos and not the BB58 Blue. A vintage tool watch for the armed forces would evolve in modern day to become larger (42mm), with a functional auto-expanding bracelet in titanium and a more serious depth rating (500m). Also the square indices on the Pelagos pair better with the snowflake hands, just like the MN Tudor :)
Its a lovely watch . But not exactly something for the watch world to go crazy about. Its just another colour to the lineup next year you guys will go crazy over the purple bb58 . Why not actually come up with a new watch or maybe add a date complication at 6oclock. not just be lazy and just add colours . Great review and thanks for showing the differences I understand about the faux patina thing but it does go with the gold.
Selling a vintage Tudor MN to buy this is the wrong approach... keep the old watch for investment value and buy the new BB58 blue for wearing... just saying.
The movement is a little underwhelming? It has a silicone balance spring, is chronometer rated, has a full balance bridge and 70 hours of power reserve. Yes granted, it's not innovative, but it's about the best 3 hand movement you can get at this price range. Also, complaining that the movement is "meh" because it doesn't fill the case, when you have a solid case-back, is like an american complaining about their new BMW, because it hasn't got a big 'murican engine. :)) In fact the engineers should be praised for packing everything in a smaller package and still deliver a very solid performance.
Am I the only one that isn’t obsessed with this watch? Is everyone just losing their minds bc it’s the first announcement from a major brand in a while?
Whrnt his one came out, I thought that the original BB58 in black and gilt was better, but with head-to-head comparison maybe I could change my mind. Anyway a great review as usual. Thanks.
I like this watch very much. I have the BB 41 in blue. I do think that the hype surrounding this watch has inflated the price considerably. It originally retailed at $3779 or there about. The BB58 dial is just printed "gold" color, and since the BB58 is a vintage inspired watch we believe the use of gold printing was to reference the tradition Gilt dials of the 50s and 60s. The BB58 wore small on my 6.75” wrist.
I have same size wrist and it fits me like a glove!
FINEST 1063 It fits me too but I guess the issue for me it’s that the dive bezel makes the dial look smaller. Different strokes for different folks.

The original Black Bay ETA is 12.7mm thick. IMO, not too thick at all. But the new 41mm with the in house caliber is definitely chubby.
The design of the watch where the midcase takes up almost the entire 12.7mm makes it look very thick though. Hiding part of the thickness in the casebook (as the submariner does) would make it look a lot sleeker, even with the newer movement.
