My kids and I love your channel, and watch it multiple times almost daily. We're somewhat new to spearfishing, and working on our hunting techniques. My older son wants to catch his first uhu. I'm looking for a nice moana kali, or mu. For my family and I, your words of wisdom are like those given from a professor. There isn't a day that we are out in the water that I don't hear, "Ryan said to do it this way," or "I saw this on Ryan's video, let's try it". Well anyway, continue the great work and the amazing videos. Mahalo again for helping in keeping my family interested in diving.
I am 15 years old and just starting to get actually ok at spearfishing. I have been thinking of upgrading my spear setup, and this is the perfect opportunity to do so. Living in northern Cali it would be so sick to shoot a giant lingcod with that spear.
In my opinion, the best gun for a ling is a medium pneumatic, like a 70cm. You can pump them up so you have a lot of power for the size of the gun. I use a euro five prong and slam them in the head. This, plus a good bright light is essential for finding those 20 plus pounders in the holes.
I would use the headhunter pole spear for shoot all the basic reef fish in Hawaii and maybe some big game Uluas or omlius , kahalas, every thing keep up the videos love them 🤙🏽🙏
Hey Ryan, It's scooter from Ormond Beach. Super stoked for your channel success. You came to watch us Powerparaglide. Anyhow, we've been finally able to travel and were heading to the keys to spear some Big Black Grouper. Thanks for a ll the great tips for Spearfishing, your channel has been super informative! Stay cool and keep Spearin!
I'd love to shoot my first black grouper! Or any grouper really lol. Those headhunters look solid. Also what do you mean by twisting your wrist to not get bend in the pole spear?
I have only recently started spear fishing in Southern Cali and the lock down only made it worse but may have helped in the long run. Gave me more motivation to spend more time on the forums and find better info on the sport and my area rather than just going out and trying random spots. Just shooting anything with that pole spear would be amazing since I am still in the stoked to get anything I can stage. Haha. Might be taking a trip to Bahamas soon to so the pole spear would come in handy then. Thanks for all the great videos keep it up man. Helped me survive the lockdown.
I would like the pole spear for dentex here in Italy. Since I'm 13, I'm not allowed to use a spear gun so I would like to have a "good pole spear" to shoot fish... (you have to be 16 to shoot a spear gun, hear in Italy)
spearfishing for reef fish in the mediterranen sea for few years now and a huge fan of your channel! would be more than stoked to get some dusky's out of their cave with that spear🙌
Big grouper. Taking a trip to Rum Cay in August. We met you there probably around 6 years ago now. Me and a few buddies were at Kayes bar and you came landcrab hunting with us. Good times.
This is a super helpful video. Thanks! I wish I would have had this information--especially the Google Earth approach to identifying reefs--before I went on a trip there last May-June. Now I need to start making plans for my another trip.
Hey Ryan your gonna strike it big on TH-cam one day, this is the best spearfishing channel out there. I'm an absolute beginner and i've already learned so much from your vids. Thanks so much and keep it up!
My name is Cole Foley and I live in Sarasota, FL. I’ve been free diving for about 3 years now and have been getting deeper and deeper in depth. The pole spear is perfect for where I hunt as there’s plenty of rocks, structures, and artificial reefs that truly require the flexibility and ease of a pole spear. My goal is to shoot my very first Black Grouper using the Headhunter Roller, that would be sick! Thanks for the consistent uploads. I love the beautiful scenery of Hawaii and the great hunting techniques that I have been practicing.
Because of you I just got into spearfishing. Going for a course in spearfishing in two days, also a freediving course next week. Well I would start off with catching the most common fish here in Denmark, the flats and codfish. Love your videos. Have great day.
I'd love to use this to shoot Golden Snapper! Beautiful eating fish and I got my first one last weekend, got me wanting more! Glad I found your channel!
I just started spearfishing and have been using the cheap spear you can buy at ACE. I would love a good upgrade in a spear and I would look forward to shooting some Kala and Kumu fish for me and my whole family. Awesome video! You shared a lot of good information!
Planning to go in February to sail a catamaran around. Last time in the Bahamas was my first time using a pole spear, and I was terrible with it! Hoping to have better luck now that I've practiced a bit more. This was super helpful video! Can't wait to go through all your other vids. Subscribed!
Hi Ryan, The whole family likes watching. We spearfish in the Gulf regularly, we're making a trip to Bimini in late August, I'd love to go for some Hogs! Keep up the good work, and thanks for all the video's.
Hope to get to Bahamas this fall haven’t picked island. Hunt grouper love them never tried hog fish so interesting. Great video pole spearing looks fun
This is a really great description. Now I know a new things. One of the best is the shark attack. Here Maldives, the Shark coming many times I catching fish on polespear.
Good explanations on important spearfishing techniques. Simple, clear and informative. May save some lives. Predator roller would be real good in Kohala. Tightlines!
i have never used such polespears and i was always amazed by how good they are. coming from curacao we have a lot of dog snappers, mangrove and cuberas... would love to get any of these with this spear!!!!
I’m going to Eleuthera in August for my first spear fishing trip. This is how I came across your channel doing research for the trip I’m a big TH-cam University guy. Thanks for the videos they were really helpful!
Ryan my brother another good one! The pole spear is just not used much if at all here in South Africa. We need some more exposure on it here so if I won the comp I'd be shooting King Mackerel first followed by numbers of Queen Mackerel and hopefully a Dorado or two! More importantly Id be filming it all spending hours on the edit and release it on Reel Excitements channel! Thanks for the awesome content my brother!
just started to fall in love with spear fishing. Based in South Africa so I always dreamed of getting some deep sea Tuna. Im still learning to free dive but a saving is a saving :) Stay awesome and love the content
@@RyanMyersExpeditions we are as well man. Think I’m going to pop the question to my girlfriend. Try and make her an honest woman haha. There’s going to be around a dozen of us staying in Governors Harbor in Central Eleuthera on the east side. Would love to link up for a beer or a dive if your schedule allows it.
I live down in Southern Florida and currently just use a 3 prong. I'd be ecstatic to use a proper slip tip and roller polespear! I'd really like to get a decent Hogfish with it, i've never even shot one before! Thanks Ryan!!
What's up Ryan, New England Spearo up here diving in the murk shooting tog, flounder, cod, and stripers. Absolutely love freediving and I really appreciate the information and awesome visuals on your channel. I only hunt with my Predator PS because I enjoy honing my technique and only want to make a kill shot worthy of ending that beautiful creature's life. It takes time, technique, patience, and true grit to be successful with a Pole Spear. That's why I love them. Anyway, good luck this summer and stay safe!
My friend took me out spearfishing yesterday for the first time off Dana Point CA. He shot a sheepshead which I made ceviche out of. Ryan, I've been enjoying your videos and getting motivated for the sport. keep up the good work. I want to win the spear and harvest some more sheepshead and many other fish as I learn the species and size limits. Thanks for the knowledge you share.
Hey Ryan, I just started following your channel a few days ago, and I’ve been stoked on the video quality. I’ve loved that you actually show/talk about how to hunt. Your process is super fun to watch. I’m in Southern California, and Im thinking a Sheepshead would be sweet to get with the spear, and obviously it would be nice to get an upgrade on my current spear! Look forward to watching your videos, and watching your channel grow. Keep it up brother!
Man that thing would be awesome for shooting Butterfish here in New Zealand! Really cool video Ryan, doubt if I'll be in the Bahamas any time soon but a cool video nonetheless!
I'm stuck on an island in the Philippines where everyone, their dogs and grannies spearfish, so the fish here are the smartest around. But I have actually been doing well with the gun, so the ultimate challenge would be to catch a snapper or grouper on a polespear here. And after that, of course, there are doggies just over in Indonesia;)
I always wondered how well pole spears would work in Hawaii waters since we mostly use 3 prongs and spearguns. I would guess that depending on the species you are targeting it could have advantages or disadvantages.
Another great video! If I had that roller pole spear I figure the fish I would target the most are papios (Jack's) and if I get super lucky some uku (green jobfish/ gray snapper) as well.
Hey Ryan! Actually, there is a ciguatera test. They do it regularly in the Canary islands, where large groupers and amberjacks (among other fish) could carry it.
Spent the first 2 months of quarantine in harbour island. On high visibility days, I would kayak off the beach and spear the reef. Super new to it but definitely had a blast and managed to spear some lobster and nassau's. Need to figure out a strategy to hit muttons as they were generally pretty elusive and flighty. Also wish I found your videos before I went there! Thanks for the unreal content.
