  • I used a 6 - 12 I-beam and 5'' c-channel as my material. A 1350lb electric hoist and two, half ton trollies.
    5/16 lag bolts were used to fasten to the trusses and walls.

    Hi from the Uk, nice install. I bought one these same hoists the other day ( But mine is the 125kg single line / 250kg double line model ) second hand but was never used and gave £25 quid for it so decided to skip always wondering what it will lift and went straight to torture test - and also to know its limits saving time later on..... so suspended it from our forklift and it maxed out at single line 190kg and double line lifted a tractor gearbox weighing 360kg and still had more to give!!! i bought it for lifting things on / off mill and lathe and changing chucks etc. I have to wonder its life expectancy though if lifting over its rated capacity often but as it didn't cost a lot and thought it looked a bit of a toy at first just had to give it a try in a safe controlled way and was pretty impressed. Keep up the great videos. Thanks, James.

    I like the T-shirt! Good old Gas, Tires and Oil! Or, Get Turned On! I so miss my 1965 Goat!
    Anyway, this was a very educational video. I am going to work on one that has two rails from front to rear and a trolley that goes left to right. That way, I can service both bays of my two car garage AND machine shop. Thanks for the ideas.

    Hi from Bornholm Denmark.
    what a great job. I wold probably mount 2 pcs. of trolley , so that the hoist always hung horizontally. but thanks for the ideas.

    I'm currently installing an electric hoist in my garage as well. I was about to buy a cherry picker to get an engine out of my LandCruiser for a restoration I'm working on. Then started doing some research and found that I can easily get an electric hoist and pulleys on a few sets of tracks that would make it much more usable

    Like what you did. As you were showing your trolley roller mount I was think you should have done two and you would not have had the issue of the swing down. Just used a longer square tubing and bolt two trolley rollers.

    Nice set-up. Id get some coiled 12 orc14 gauge wire & run it along the I-beam so your not dragging an extension cord or power wire. I like it!

    Need Two Trolley and will also stop the trolley from moving from side to side protecting the rollers of the trolley.

    Nice work and thank you for sharing. Its something I've always wanted to do, but never seen done, now I'm encouraged. I also would be using it to remove engines and lift to replace a truck bed. Surprising your trailer weighs close to 1000 lbs. Best of luck.

    Got quite a few ideas from this video, the test lift was great, not creek or crack, could probly lift upwards of a ton on that 👍,

    i have one installed like this using 2 trolleys based on another youtuber's design. then the hoist sits flat. but the second trolley isn't need for the weight - as the hoist has a lower capacity than a single trolley. I guess I should have watched the whole video before commenting! well done.

    May want to add a a multi part block or hook. I m not suggesting that for more lifting power, it's to slow the speed down for the critical lifts in very tight spots

    The area where bracket mounted on top of the garage door is the weak point. Garage door has a very wide span and add another 1000 lb may be overloading the beam on top of the garage door. It may not collapse but it may start sagging. Your I beam is probably stronger than the beam on top of the garage door.

    • @newt2010
      @newt2010 ปีที่แล้ว

      He said it was a double laminated beam. That will not sag with the I beam on it. Plus a garage door does have any weight on the header above it. The door weight actually hangs on the rafters has the door goes up. That is my 2 cents worth

      Definitely too much for a garage header demensional or lvl. Could just add a parallel beam to the garage header and add stations on either end.

    When installing that, even if you had an accidental drop on the unsupported end even just a foot or two. that beam would just be a giant pry bar and probably rip those eye bolts right out of the ceiling

    • @JonnyD3ath
      @JonnyD3ath 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The trolleys have a min width of beam they can attach to so may have ended up being on the low end if much was taken off the height and its a long enough span

    Just a word of advice. If you make more video's using the camera mic for dialogue, when you go to edit your video need to match the audio level of the of your talking/dialogue with your music. I had to turn up my audio to hear you but when the music comes in it's 30 db louder db louder.

  • @daver681
    @daver681 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I would not put those little 5/16 lag bolts in that thing, I would go 1/2" at least 3" long into the wood so I would buy 4" long bolts.

    Great video, thank you. I realize it's been a year but just saw your video. What size or what nomenclature is the tube steel you used between the hoist bracket? I have the same issue and was going to use a chain inside a pipe spanning the 2 brackets and carabiners at the ends to attach to the trolleys. Love your set up, saves more headroom, only have 120" ceiling and already loose a lot having a gentry crane. Please respond, thank you. Love your setup.

      I used 1-1/2 inch tubing with a 1/8 wall. Going thicker doesn’t hurt either. Good luck.

      @@averagedadsgarage thank you.i got all the supplies for my setup but home depot only had 1 1/4" round pipe and the chain fit in it very tightly, don't know if it would pass all the way through. so i'm definetly going with a 1 1/2" pipe. can't wait until it's set up.
      Thanks again, love your video.

      I don’t have the link. But if you search for "digital crane scale" find one that’s good for 2000lbs., or whatever weight you’re planning on lifting.

  • @douglasthompson2740
    @douglasthompson2740 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    They make a trolley with two crossbolts (amazon $74.00) which will stabilize your winch. For more you can use two trolleys with two attachment points also. Lifting a major load will tip yours into the beam and it will not slide at best and at worst it will lever the wheels off the beam.
