I use to want to make my own neo pixel blade because it has a cool looking effect but the more I thought about it, it just seems like a gimmick that isn't even realistic so now I have decided to just stick with the standard single led to illuminate the blade because using the standard single led method is already most like a true light saber since a real light saber would emit it's blade at the speed of light it should appear almost instantly the same way as flooding the blade tube with a single led. I think what people have been wanting is the ability to not have anything attached to the saber with it being able to emit a light as in to have something come out of it but having the light "come out" with an led string inside an attached up kind of defeats the real desire people have so I think it sort of got lost in translation and the pixel saber was created to try to satisfy that craving to have something "come out" of the saber but it doesn't really because there's still a long tube attached.
How about fitting a 26650 battery(5000 mah) instead of an 18650(3000 mah)? that would add about60% battery life, and maybe minimize sound cracking issue due to higher curret output rating. Or, is the 8mm too much extra diameter? Just wonder if the bigger battery would fit in the hilt. I want to build one of these from scratch like an actual Jedi would. Hey Rob, what about using Tesla's battery? The 21700 I think it was? Any possibility of using that as a higher-capacity high drain battery alternative?
The new Tesla/Panasonic 21-70 (and Samsung's 2170 competitor) isn't available to the consumer yet, but does look promising for lightsaber (as well as flashlight) use.
They are available to buy! Google Panasonic/Sanyo NCR20700B! Here's a link to where you can buy them: liionwholesale.com/products/panasonic-sanyo-ncr20700b?variant=30186936017 They are pretty awesome cells! I plan to get some soon! And yes they are called 20700's not 21700's
Those are 18650 cells and not the newer 20700 ones. The newer 20700 cells are used in the Powerpack 2, Powerwall 2 and Model 3 car... The 18650s are used in the Model S and Model X vehicles. The cells they use are called NCR18650B. You can buy them anywhere... Amazon, eBay, etc.
never bought a lightsaber before however if I was to buy one I would want to have it obviously highly durable but also I f#%$ing love how bright that is so gorgeous however I think it should be standard to have the power saver feature as a preset even if I have to pay abit more but as a question of curiosity can I buy fully custom from you/them? I like to think out side the box for lightsaber's not just the thought of what's cannon and what's not meaning if I wanted a black unstable crossguard with a curved hilt and a red unstable saberstaff that can twist apart and become 2 would it be possible?
A lot of Neo Pixel blades iv looked at, look like they used white blades to defuse the leds. But am I right in thinking that it looks like you have used a clear blade with defusing film? I really like the white core with a coloured edge look of your Neo pixel blade in this video!
Rob Petkau I'm thinking of making one of these. But just to confirm what order would you recommend the layers from inside to out. Is it LED strip then foam then clear cellophane gift wrap then thin polycarbonate tube?
Correct. But as with my test blade - the strips will move around inside the blade and you will eventually get broken connections from the strips to the connector. That's one of the reasons I'm waiting for proper sized foam
Something I would like to know is how to get a hold of the inner part so I can make my own it wouldn't matter if it was a neopixel or EFX lightsaber innards I just want to build my own custom lightsaber that is mine and mine alone made by my own two hands but to get the right measurements I would need to see what the interns look like to be able to build the hilt to shape I've already thought about cannibalizing a toy lightsaber and doing it that way but if you have a better idea I'm all ears
It will depend on the battery, the colour selected etc. But flat out you might get 40 or 50 min on a single battery with Neopix, and well over 2 hours of solid runtime with a Tri-Cree... approximately.

Which saber is the neopixel one, the one in your right hand at the start of the video? It looked like creed but I realized the grooves didn't match up.
Has anyone tried the 3M microbubbles yet? I thought they would be good to coat the interior of the blade. A thin spray of clear gloss or glue would adhere the micro spheres to the blade and diffract light well. Heres a link:
I'm still reviewing what other have discovered. For me - no matter what a product boasts, I wait until I hear how it performs in our unique applications.
Help me understand this properly - I had to watch it twice - you're saying the POWERSAVER config only runs the BRIGHTNESS of the blade at 60% of norm?? which is still brighter than others but not full brightness.? Is that correct? so the only difference was the brightness.?
Rob would it be too difficult to install a Neopixel into "Revan's Last"? I like the way the blades work on the Neopixel but I am unsure on if its worth changing
It would require a major step down in the sound card as the Crystal Focus does not yet support Neopixel. Plus the battery style in your saber would be very short life with neopixel.
Okay thanks. Just making sure. I am not familiar with all the pros and cons of theses different aspects in saber changes. As always I appreciate your help and advice my friend
Yes and no... Yes they will stand up to most duelling. BUT - like any other mid grade blade they can bend with enough force. In the case of a normal blade you've only lost $30 if that happens. With a neopixel blade you would have lost over $150 if that happens.

Hey Rob, what about using Tesla's battery? The 21700 I think it was? Any possibility of using that as a higher-capacity high drain battery alternative?
Perhaps eventually - but with something like this it's best for the industry to work out the bugs/issues first
The new Tesla/Panasonic 21-70 (and Samsung's 2170 competitor) isn't available to the consumer yet, but does look promising for lightsaber (as well as flashlight) use.
There are plenty of videos where users destroy the battery packs from their tesla cars, email them and ask to buy a few , simple
They are available to buy! Google Panasonic/Sanyo NCR20700B!
Here's a link to where you can buy them: liionwholesale.com/products/panasonic-sanyo-ncr20700b?variant=30186936017
They are pretty awesome cells!
Anything is possible. But I do very few full custom commissions...

Going out for the day the to the park with my light saber
A lot of Neo Pixel blades iv looked at, look like they used white blades to defuse the leds. But am I right in thinking that it looks like you have used a clear blade with defusing film? I really like the white core with a coloured edge look of your Neo pixel blade in this video!
Yes. This test blade is made with old MR foam, and then film wrapped inside. We can not get that foam produced at present.
Rob Petkau Thank you that really helps. Love the way your Neo Pixel blade looks!
IT IS SO BRIGHT.... 😱
What does: Prm RGB Sound Only mean and TCO-metal PremiumSd ??? Thanks!
Sorry. I do not know what you are referring to.
Where do I go to build my own custom lightsaber? I don’t know anything about this stuff but I’m interested
Welcome!
Start at www.thecustomsabershop.com
Something I would like to know is how to get a hold of the inner part so I can make my own it wouldn't matter if it was a neopixel or EFX lightsaber innards I just want to build my own custom lightsaber that is mine and mine alone made by my own two hands but to get the right measurements I would need to see what the interns look like to be able to build the hilt to shape I've already thought about cannibalizing a toy lightsaber and doing it that way but if you have a better idea I'm all ears
Have you checked out the MHS parts from www.thecustomsabershop.com ?
@@MadcowGenesis no I haven't but I'll check it out
You’ll need a chassis to hold the electronics in
What’s the actual runtime comparison between a neo pixel and a tri Cree?
It will depend on the battery, the colour selected etc. But flat out you might get 40 or 50 min on a single battery with Neopix, and well over 2 hours of solid runtime with a Tri-Cree... approximately.
Rob Petkau Wow that’s a massive difference. Thanks for the quick reply, love your work sir.
I just wanted to know if they came with blades. Like, if you order one, do you get the hilt and the blade in one?
You can order a saber either way.
With or without a blade.
Are they compatible with an RGB saber because I was going to order just the blade
As you can see in the video - no.
@@MadcowGenesis Thanks for your helpful comment. I’m new to the legit (expensive) sabers. I just ordered an RGB and also just ordered a neopixel. You could’ve been a little helpful instead of just putting your two cents in. See you in your nightmares AHHHHH HAAAHAAAHAAAAAAA
With the neopixel blades can you see the individual LED strips whilst it is on?????
Depends on the blade construction. Most good blades are diffused so you see a more even light, and not the strip.
Are the neopixel blade significantly heavier than the RGB tri-cree blades? Since the Tri-cree are just normal dueling blades (non heavy dueling).
170g regular blade, 200g neopixel
How do I find out what sound boards/PCBs support Neopixel blades? I’ve tried this in Google, and cannot seem to get an answer.
You can ask the supplier. You can also check on the manufacturers websites.
If anybody knows, is the neopixel mystery box worth the money?
Rob, what do you think of the Naigon's Igniter 3 sound board? have you messed with them at all or have an opinion about it?
I have not tried them. I use Plecter Labs boards exclusively.
So I’m considering buying a neopixel anf was wondering where’s the best place to buy one and does a blade come with the purchase of the hilt
I like to think I am one of the best. I do not sell blades separately but I do with the sabers. Creed and Ascend will be back in stock soon.
genesiscustomsabers.com/?page_id=819
What’s the battery life on the Neopixel
Also one more thing can you make it’s so it turns on slowly up the blade if you know what I mean
Yes, it's in the CFX manual which you can DL from Plecterlabs.com
Alot of cons tho, yeah some things make it better, sure ,but for the price ,other saber is not bad choice
PonyBoy1up I mean, the biggest pro is it’s closer to a real lightsaber aesthetic. So I’d say if that’s your main goal, and you have the cash, all the cons really don’t matter. If you’re looking at these, you shouldn’t expect cheap prices anyway.
Which saber is the neopixel one, the one in your right hand at the start of the video? It looked like creed but I realized the grooves didn't match up.
It's a Vector. An older design I've since discontinued.
@@MadcowGenesis It looks nice. Do you think you’d ever bring it back? (Also, thanks for the fast reply)
@@ds2td Thanks. I have no plans to bring the Vector back anytime soon.
What camera and lens do you use? The picture is great!
Thanks. It's just the EFS 18-55mm that came with the camera
Is the camera just a Rebel T6i?
T3i
Personally not a big fan of neopixel because it stops looking like the lightsabres in the movies although it is pretty cool
Yeah you don’t wanna run out of battery during a fight. Could cost you a hand.
I was hoping to get the Ascend lightsaber till I realised it costs over a thousand dollars AU.
Thanks for the video, nice :)
Will the neopixel blades be sold at TCSS
Has anyone tried the 3M microbubbles yet? I thought they would be good to coat the interior of the blade. A thin spray of clear gloss or glue would adhere the micro spheres to the blade and diffract light well. Heres a link:
www.carbonfiberglass.com/Resin-Systems/Fillers/3M-Glass-Bubbles.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwt5DXBRAtEiwAa3vyEnPtJmqA8NVMWBlEbxem404GWABU-3ib_JgN2ymc0MViju9fUegzDBoCMHUQAvD_BwE
It's a good idea as long as it doesn't add weight
Thanks Rob! What is the ideal battery for NeoPixel?
I'm still reviewing what other have discovered. For me - no matter what a product boasts, I wait until I hear how it performs in our unique applications.
can i use a charger to charge it?
Yes... Some sabers have and internal battery (charger plugs into the saber), others have removeable rechargeable batteries.
@@MadcowGenesis ok, thanks
Help me understand this properly - I had to watch it twice - you're saying the POWERSAVER config only runs the BRIGHTNESS of the blade at 60% of norm?? which is still brighter than others but not full brightness.? Is that correct? so the only difference was the brightness.?
Essentially correct.
Brightness is subjective. It runs the power to the LED at approx %60
Where could I get a good neopixel capable/ pre-installed vader saber??
I'm not sure. I do not make repicas for sale.
Why do all of them look like flash lights
How much time the battery would last at maximum settings? Minutes? Hours? Seconds ? Milliseconds ? :p
Most people are finding anywhere from 30 min to an hour
If I got the Plexer Pixel RGB Blade, would I be able to switch it back and forth with other blades like the non pixel blade?
Yes - if the hilt is set up for those blades.
What things are the power-saver mode turning down/disabling to make it last longer?
With the CFX it's as simple as lowering the blade brightness in the menu.
Okay wait so can you actually duel someone with them like go all out and not worry about the sabers breaking on eachother?
Yes and no...
Yes they will stand up to most duelling. BUT - like any other mid grade blade they can bend with enough force. In the case of a normal blade you've only lost $30 if that happens. With a neopixel blade you would have lost over $150 if that happens.
WHAT CAN I DO TO ACQUIRE ONE OF YOUR LIGHTSABERS ASAP
I take it the new npx2 blade is far more durable than these older neopixel blades?
Not really. For hard duelling I still recommend Tri-Cree setup.
@@MadcowGenesis I'm not going to be hard duelling with it but I just want to know if it can withstand the odd knock incase it accidentally hits something but obviously I will endear to try not to lol
@@lifesprototype They are certainly strong enough for light duelling/cosplay etc.
I'd like to know what's the name of those connector (0:39 sec), and if it can be use it on thin neck sabers
TCSS will have a variety of connector adapters to work in all of their parts.
camera pixel errors are annoying (constant white pixel = x: 50% y: 30%, constant white pixel = x: 5% y: 70%, constant red pixel = x:95% y: 22%, etc... )
If I buy your neopixel blade, can I attach it onto any empty hilt with no electronics or sound system inside?
I do not sell the blades separately at this time.
Forgive my ignorance but what does one do with a light saber?
All kinds of things. Play, fight, play-fight, cosplay, display on a shelf, use your imagination!
can i use this on a disney world star wars outpost savis workshop saber?
You would need to install all new electronics.
whats the difference between the 7 pin connectors and the 11 pin connector?
The 11 pin can handle more amps without warming up or hindering the flow. IMHO it's only useful if you are trying to run some kind of 3 strip blade
@@MadcowGenesis thank you, this helps alot! I ordered an 11 pin just in case, would it be worth using 11 pins or 7pins? I'm running 2 LED strips, thanks.
@@jaydenbateman6845 I always use 7. It's up to you.
Can a power bank be used to recharge
Not with these sabers. They have a removeable rechargeable battery.
