Hi Scott, generally speaking for large parachute patterns I try and use a hackle that is larger than normal for the hook size. Modern genetic dry fly hackle is way too small for this size of hackle. For this purpose I buy Grade 3 Hebert Minor saddles. These tend to have a much larger hackle. I have a good friend in the US, Jim Slattery the originator of the Stimulator pattern. Tell him what colour you need and for what hook size, eg. #12-# 8 and he will sort through what he has to find what you need. jimsflyco.com/CapesAndSaddles/Cart-Brands.aspx?dID=4
Finally I have a minute to sit and watch this. Barry a question. You look to have large fingers like me. How do those scissors work for you? I see pictures of them and it looks like there are maybe two styles? One appears to have larger finger holes than the other? I don't want to put the money out for these if they are a tight fit. The price here is quite high! That fly is amazing! I will eventually give it a try thank you!!!
Hi Kerry, I actually don't have any scissors that I have issues with, they all fit well in the hand. Although the large straight scissors from Renomed do have larger finger holes than the smaller for some reason. www.veniard.com/search_results.asp?search=renomed
I almost ran to my desk to tie this. Having filled countless fly boxes over the years I'm pretty handy at it - but found this quite testing. It may be that elk is more suitable than the winter roe I was using. Selecting sufficient fibres to spin around the hook-shank, the result was much bulkier than your pretty streamlined version. I DO like to be challenged. So, a question: which trout flies (say on a size 16 or 14) would you consider to be genuinely difficult for non-professionals to tie to a first-class standard? What would be on your list list of six for students sitting their finals at Oxford for a BA in Flymanship? Note: I'm guessing a #16 Parachute Adams might be on your list.
Thanks Matt, moose body and moose mane have so many uses. If you would like to take your tying to the next level may I suggest: th-cam.com/video/mVLof0uXqyE/w-d-xo.html

Gracias Luiz.
Good looking fly that is Barry. I’ll deffo have a go at it. Thank you for another one dude.
Thanks dude, just pay attention to the proportions.
Will do. Thank you.
Very_NICE_Tie_up_thank_you
Thank you.
I'm really struck with how great the thinness of this fly body is, another true fishing fly! Thanks
Thanks Gary, and a very easy tie when you have done a few, just take care with the proportions.
Great fly. Kelly Gallup does one similar. I always like the float ability of deer hair.
Thanks Gary. Yes there are many deer hair duns around, I just like the simplicity of this one.
Bravo toujours de jolie montage
Thank you Francois.
Awesom Tie Barry!! If you only new how much I have learned from you Master ;-)
Hi K, well nice to know they are helpful and they are working for you, good luck!
Another great pattern!
Thank you Tom.
Was the hackle a size 8? I’m trying to develop a Size 6 to match a Hex hatch here in Maine. Where do you find dry fly hackle feathers that large?

@@Thefeatherbender thanks so much Barry. Hey a couple of friends ordered your latest book last week, still promoting you when I can.
This is proving tough to tie but I’ll get it. It’s a beautiful pattern that out to fish real well.
Practice, practice and more practice Greg...
@@Thefeatherbender Next trip back to Oslo, Stavanger and Tau I hope to meet you...
Outstanding!
Thanks D.
