I love the elderly! They've always got a quick two words to every one of yours! They get better and wiser with time! Gotta love'em and adore them. RIP Mrs. Chase! ❤
Wow my family is from NOLA... my granddad took me to Dookies when I was about 7 years old I felt so special and the food was delicious, that was in the 60's I will always remember that.
This almost brought tears to my eyes but I couldn't look away. Ms Leah reminds me of my grandmother. I saw her cook on an old Julia Childs episode where she made fried chicken, biscuits and a pecan pie and it brought me here. I am about to binge watch episodes of her cooking. So precious and the food looks so good.
why is Roland in there trying to tell a woman who has a world renowned new orleans cuisine restaurant how his family cooks gumbo - she doesn't care roland....
Every time I hear and see Leah in one of these videos she puts a smile on my face she was such a sweet woman it’s a shame I never got to meet her or eat her food
I Grew Up with Ms. Leah right down the Street on Miro St. 3 blocks away ,, School Him Ms. Chase ,, there is Orka Gumbo ,, & File Seafood Gumbo ,,, the two are different ,, Mabel Dupart Cavalier ,, knows Ms. Chase my MOMS .. I picked up Po-Boys from her pick up window all the time growing up !! . Fo Sho !!! Big Mike

MissRika30 y'all crazy... Okra is delicious... I cook world class Gumbo and use okra..... It has to be done a certain way so it's not slimey...... Most people that don't like okra eat my Gumbo and love the okra
sabadaga; NAW NAW now, there are two types of Gumbo one from New Orleans & the other from South Carolina they make Gumbo with Okra. I would love to be in that kitchen & hurt my self with Leah Chase cooking!!!!
Cheryl Collins The one in South Carolina is based on the Louisiana dish. Gumbo is from Louisiana and originated in Louisiana. It’s a dish with all the influences of the people that settled Louisiana: French, Spanish, African, American Indian, Cajun, Haitian, Cuban, Italian and German. The dish gumbo got its name from an English corruption of the French word for okra, which is gombo. The language of Louisiana at the invent of gumbo was French. France absorbed the origin of the French name gombo from African languages as Quingombo/kilogombo. So in French today in France, Louisiana and French overseas territories, the French word for okra is gombo. But in Louisiana, gumbo no longer needs to contain okra. It evolved into a stew of smoked meats and seafood or chicken and may contain ground sassafras leaves instead of okra as well as a roux.
@@IslenoGutierrez if you say so. Orka was grown in Africa. Not by the French. Not going to debate with you. Can care less what the french called it are what you believe.
Kedrick Blacher I’m not arguing where okra is grown. It’s grown and eaten in the Middle East, Africa and Spain. It was taken to the US by slavers visiting the African coast, Africans and Spaniards. However, the Louisiana dish called gumbo is named in the French language, which was the language of Louisiana when gumbo was created in Louisiana. In the French language, the word for okra is gombo. Just look at this recipe from France for seasoned okra in the French language: www.elle.fr/Elle-a-Table/Recettes-de-cuisine/Gombos-poeles-2079948 Gumbo comes from gombo, which is the French word for okra that is used in Louisiana and France. I’m not saying okra isn’t eaten by Africans because it is. I’m saying that the dish from Louisiana called gumbo is named in the French language and invented in Louisiana with influences from several ethnic groups in Louisiana
From the looks of it Roland's family does all the cooking and He does all the eating.R.I.P. Leah Chase.Roland should have just kept his mouth shut are stuffed some food it and let A true culinary legend talk.Holla!
Morpheus, so you're just eating a plain soup. OKRA IS LIFE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way, if you're an African American, let me tell you that your ancestors are not happy about the fact that you reject okra.
sabadaga1: On the contrary, I could argue that you are eating slimy soup. Okra is not life, it's nasty as hell IMHO. Oh, and I am actually literally African American.....that is first generation Nigerian American......so I know first hand about the versatility of okra as it is used in a lot of Nigerian dishes. I have love and admiration for countless vegetables, okra is not one of them, sorry.
sabadaga1: I will say it again, okra is not life by any means LOL. I know plenty of Nigerian-Americans that cannot stand okra. It's not a novel concept.
I humbly appreciate your kind gesture Dr Aluda on TH-cam, you are always able to help with any health issues. HSV 2 was something the world thought it have no cure, but I am happy to say that I got rid of my HSV 2 after using Dr Aluda supplement and I'm glad to have him as my doctor...

What does the okra do for gumbo
Doris l.matthews Matthews the slime from okra acts as a thickener for the gumbo.
