I tried the recipe and it was the same as my grandmother except we never used pecans and sweet condensed milk, just regular milk or evaporated. Well let me tell you, using the sweet condensed milk is what brought out that secret wow taste. This is a great recipe...highly recommended.
My mom recorded this year's ago, I have it on tape, could'nt find this for the longest time, so glad to have found this. Made this several times ◇easy peezie◇ I think this is the best!, 2 wonderful woman to hand down a timeless recipe.
Thank you for posting this video. It brought back wonderful memories of my grandmother making pies on Sunday afternoon. I can't wait to try this recipe. Blessings!
I came across this video while scanning the channels some weeks back and recorded it just to get some ideas for the up and coming thanksgiving holiday. The more I viewed the more I decided to stay home for the holidays and make pie. Bon appetit!
She does a gr8 job but I put my sweet potatoes in the oven, to save the flavor, boiling them boils away the flavor of the potato. I used to do it this way to until one day I had no choice but to use the oven because I was burning up the pots! Getting dinner done for the holidays. I love her though, cooks almost like my mother! Thinks that way too.
NOT ENOUGH BUTTER AND I'D USE EVAPORATED MILK INSTEAD. I AGREE WITH ANOTHER COMMENT THAT SWEET POTATOES BETTER BAKED RATHER THAN BOILED TO RETAIN ALL THEIR SWEETNESS.
I am so glad to find this video! I recently bought Julia's cook book that featured this recipe and I'm making it for Thanksgiving tomorrow...can't wait to try it
The easy way to tell if the pie is done is stick a clean toothpick in the center and when it comes out clean of ANY filling it's ready! Generally it takes about 20 to 25 minutes on 375 degrees.
I also bake my sweet potatoes. I like that she uses condenced milk, but i also use a little canned milk. How did she keep the crust from burnining cooking it twice.
What I do is put aluminum foil around the crust when I want put the crust in the oven the 1st time and the 2nd time it browns w/o burning. Works for me.
Use yokes instead of whole eggs and one extra than the recipe calls for. I don’t use the cup of sugar and just use the whole can of sweetened condensed milk. 4 tablespoons of butter.
The way Julia respects Leah. Great ladies, what a duo!!
Timeless video, I love the grace and class with the two of them. This is such a diamond, a keepsake to watch...
It surely is! Those women both demonstrate how it should be done. We need more of them!

Yams are found in Africa for the most part. They're less flavorful & more starchy. They look different too.
