- Thought I’d share my experience with my disability (it’s hardly a disability) and how it affected my life. It’s hard to see light at the end of the tunnel when you’re down in the dumps. Something I would’ve found helpful would have been talking to more people about my struggles, but hopefully some of you can learn from my mistakes.

Hi Scotty, I have scoliosis in my back to, I had surgery three months ago. It was a long rehab but It helped me with the pain, before the surgery i had back pain almost every day. Of course that is not nice physically but also mentally it is a killer. I heard what you said about your grades dropping, I had that too. I just wanted you to know that you can live a happy life even if you have scoliosis. I think you also know that 😊. I haven’t seen the rest of the vid yet but just wanted to tell you this, greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
The surgery isn’t pleasant, took me about a year before I went a day that I didn’t think about my back. For me it’s not a disability, as I’m still allowed to live how I want to live without any obstruction, I’m sure you’ll recover just as well!
@@scottyfairnomy recovery went great, didn’t have a full back surgery (so not from top to bottom) I got a surgery in my lower back. It gave me much time to think about live. I have recently bought an ex feuerwehr Volkswagen lt 35 and I am going to convert it into a camper. I first thought I couldn’t convert it to a camper because I couldn’t lift anything but that’s not true. So happy to be doing what I love and not having any pain anymore. I know the feeling of not bothering being sober and actively looking for a way to disassociate. I'm glad you made it through too. All the best too you and remember that despite the TH-cam/Instagram career isnt what you aimed for, it's the thing that made you, assumingly, feel good again. It's a choice most people don't face.
Hi Scotty, your words really struck a chord with me dude. It’s great to see that you’ve recognised the blessing in this at a young age still. I like you wanted to join the army.. it was just always what I was told I was doing. I believed that and put my blood sweat and tears into joining. I got accepted and ended up doing around 4 years as a guardsman. It’s been 18 years since I left that life and 18 years of carrying such a dark pain inside. That will never go away. So I’d say to anyone who wanted to join… DON’T. That place is hell on earth and they will make you believe you are nothing better than war fodder. You got out luck fella, someone was watching over you for sure. Probably the best thing that ever happened to you mate. Thank you for speaking out.. thank you for showing we can be empathetic, caring and loving as well as blowing up shit, building mental creations and generally being a fucking nutter. Gday scotty, I’m currently 16 and I strive for a career in the army. I have mild thoracic scoliosis which I’ve notice over the period of a year or two. Over the past couple of months I’ve been quite scared on how it may develop and how it will affect me and anything I want to do in the future. This video was really reassuring, thanks for showing me that I’m not alone when things go upside down and even someone that suffers the same or has had it worse can still come out on top and find themselves and a promising position in life. Scolosis is actually a massive mind game. I got a 15 degree curve upper and 20 degree curve lower found at 14 got told i'll never be able to run again be very limited in physical activity. Sent me thru a spiral of depression laid in bed for almost the whole year then got into drugs. Stopped everything at 20 and got a job.
Physical health wise im doing heaps better, mentally its a huge grind everyday is different.
My biggest thing is make sure you keep somewhat active and do like 30 mins of stretching twice a week. Helps ALOT with back pain and flexibility.

I was lucky to finish high school and now I'm stuck in a boring life where my day to day life is just eating and sleeping. Great words that I live by and love man. Viewing your vids for the past 4 yrs have got me through some hard times brother. I broke my femur last yr in April and am just now recovering. I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment of it closing a door but opening another. Hindsight is 2020 for fucking sure brother. That's one hell of back story Scotty (sorry for the pun). What you are doing on YT is brilliant and unique i see a bit of Guy Martin and Fred Dibnah and whole Top Gear/Grand Tour team in what you and your mates do . Keep it up and take care we want to be entertained for years to come.
To keep it long story short, I know your pain all too well I thought I was gonna go in and be a highly decorated mechanic/auto technician/whatever the fuck they call it now, but wound up spending my college tuition to save the family home during the early 2000s recession. I just went full reckless for 4 years until I got offered a job at a barbecue and now fast forward 13 years now I am a traveling specialty contractor, rigger, and installer specifically for banks Installing the ATM bulletproof glass and so on because of that, I have been able to travel to so many states all across America (Including Alaska but not Hawaii lol) which has just been downright fucking amazing especially when I’m never the one paying for gas lol. My love for cars has never died it just got better, I fear no car… except for my bosses Alfa 164 (Or as I like to call the inbred Saab 9000) that’s had its cheeks clapped one to many times, It’s like trying to keep a European car alive in the United States that wants to die on “extreme Difficulty”.

I joined straight from school as a Recy Mech. He got knocked back because of asthma. He went off the rails.

Hey Scotty, I know exactly where you’re coming from. I wanted to join the army when I was a teenager but I got diagnosed with cancer on my lower right side back and I thought that was it for my life and also I fell into drugs. I just wanted to be numb, I’m not face the fact that I couldn’t do what I wanted to do but seeing this video has opened my eyes in different ways. Thank you for sharing and I hope all the best for you.

Scheurmanns kyphosis here. 2 rods in 2/3rd of my spine now. Im so glad I dont get any pain from it. They measured mine at 113 degrees, post surgery down to 86 degrees, they offer surgery over 60. Just means im a cyborg with long legs and short torso, perfect for a land rover defender 🤣

"It doesn't matter what you do, just do something." A great quote I try to live by. It may seem like the safer route to stay in an environment you're familiar with but the right thing to do is take that risk and if it doesn't work out then there is guaranteed to be more paths to take from there.
I went a bit off the rails in my teens too, was so close to getting kicked out of school. Now i'm starting a PhD in a subject i love and think is important. I wish i could go back and shake some sense into myself but i guess its all part of the journey and what makes us who we are now. Glad you've found your happiness mate and inspiring us not to take engine removal too seriosuly
I know how it feels, i was operated for scolioses when i was 16, i also had a curve on 50 degrees and one on 40 degrees
in higschool i noticed i had scoliosis too, and it ruined my dreams of becoming pro bodybuilder and stuff but i realized that its not rly that bad i still train and i found my cure in other hobies like cars, hunting...

Im 35 now but at 17 i joined the army thinking it was something i always wanted to do and hated it. Left after two months at Catterick. Hated it 🙈
Best advice I can give to anyone reading this in their teens or early 20s is
:Don't finance cars
:Get a trade or qualification so you'll hopefully never struggle in life on minimum wage
:buy a cheap house as early as possible even if you just rent it out.
:pay into a pension as early as possible so you can retire at 60

Followed you for a long while and you have followed my current and previous account and through all this, without knowing from the small bits you have talked about it you could never guess what you have been through, it is amazing to see someone find there niche. I'm 17 now with a love for all things mechanical and I'm doing a welding apprenticeship, I don't know if its what I want and I spend quite a few days feeling like absolute shit, I'm weighing up whether to tough it out or if I'm wasting my time forcing myself through something. I have 2 cars my 98 z3 and my 92 Mk3 fiesta, sadly i resent the fiesta a bit as I've put a fair bit of work in only to find more and more things. I hope I can find my way through this and I genuinely want to thank you for making this, I needed it in this time.

That is soo harsh on you i went through something with wanting to be a woman im still following it and getting treatment for it i used to drink Whiskey alot stay up late and think nothing would ever change then i had a brainwave and brought a Rx-8 and i said to myself i will learn to drive this thing even if it kills me so i been working hard on driving that put 200 miles on it and still transitioning with hormones and electrolysis being done every two weeks its a painful thing but i want it done.
