Day In The Life of a Construction Worker

  • I'm currently working construction in Jackson Wyoming.
I work long days - 11 to 13hrs - and have been using that as an excuse to not make & share videos. Making this video is my way of recognizing that and moving forward without it. I had fun making this this video! Enjoy

So disgusted by people’s comments and judgements.
You have NO context of this dude’s work company, his fellow workers, his boss, or his position and time at the company.
He could have told his boss “hey man, I’m doing a little TH-cam video today, that okay by you?”. If he’s been working there for a couple years, that’s a pretty chill request.
So at 4:20, when everyone is eating their frosties, they get shit too?
Last time I checked, buddies giving you shit at a job site is probably the most normal thing to happen. You wouldn’t know that, because you don’t actually working on a fucking job site.
He even says in the video “wow, this day is all sorts of things.” Meaning, even he’s surprised he’s driving around so much.
But nah, keep judging from your cubicles 👍🏻.

There are days like this, and then there are those days (in them majority), when u work your @ss off.
' Guess this was one of those days, when the schedule, or the circumstances weren't THAT strict.
Every now and then, we ( people, working on construction sites) have days like that.
It's just how this industry works.
Nice comment ; had to reply.
' Tis good to see a non - hater, expressing concern.

As a fellow construction worker (now working in Remodeling), but spent years in a ditch connecting water and sewer lines, I respect anyone in 2023 doing this type of work. I’m 44 and helped put myself through college with construction work and started building things at 5, when my dad introduced me to a hammer. I have a Bachelors degree, but construction has been my bread and butter most of my life. I’m thankful to physically be capable of doing the work.

Not shingle roofs but metal commercial roofs, repairing rusty panels that cause leaks of all kinds, applying certain chemicals to preserve it for 10+ or so years. It was a bitch at first especially after not having worked for about 6 months, first day was 110 degrees with only 2 5 minutes breaks to get off the roof & chill but a good 1 hour lunch. Once I got used to it it was nothing but good times with good people working under the same heat I was. Those were my brothers on & off the roof, looked out for one another but it was the management that made me say "fuck this" & I moved onto something better. Salute to all the real homies that thug it out under the sun.. black, white, Asian or raza, tienen mi respeto. 🤝💯

Like, you had 40+ y/o dudes acting like they’ve been through this, this, and that, trying to pass down their dumbass “wisdom” just to feel accomplished. Like dude, you don’t own the company? You’re employed by the company w/ the same position as me and I’m 21. Wth did you do w/ the rest of your life?

Unfortunately, for a lot of guys, including me, construction is all they know... after reading your comment, I can assure you, you did come off as arrogant, I bet you weren't nearly as good as you think you were. C Levy Idk, the fact that most people who work with me including my managers as well, call me a good worker is good enough. Maybe I failed to mention but during those 6 months I was also doing school as well. And I’m fixing to finish come December. Never once said I’ll be a success, but you’re proving my point. Apparently I’m “delusional” cause I just stated what everybody else says about me in person? You say 6 months isn’t enough time, but yet what else is their to do in construction besides doing your work, showing up on time, and taking the initiative when coworkers are a no-show? Guarantee you’d love me as a worker. And as for you ONLY knowing construction then that’s your problem. You’ve obviously haven’t tried new things or give up on the thought of trying something new. Hey, at least you've got your health. Here are some tips to make your life easier: Go to Walmart and buy a cheap bike, and a good U-bar bike lock (and keep your bike in your bedroom as it will get stolen out there if you leave it outside). Go bike riding around your area instead of paying for an expensive gym membership. In one year that bike pays for itself, and after that, you have a new hobby to enjoy life with = bike riding around and looking at the world. If there is a public library in your area, go for a bike ride there, stop in at the library to look at a book for 15 minutes, or to use the toilet there, and then bike ride back. That's what I do and just that one thing (bike riding) brings a whole bunch more joy into my life.

I dont do what this guy does but I respect what every person does that contributes to building (construction ). Every trade does their part, and without one trade, your buildings that you shop in, receive healthcare in, live in, curse the owner in, workout in, do recreational activities etc...wouldn't exist. I would like to mention, that if you do not want to go to college or cannot afford it, then you should apply yourself to a trade in construction. Get with a company that offers an apprenticeship opportunity. You.can choose a trade that has a top.heavy brawn versus having to use your brain as much. Or you.can get into a trade that requires more smarts with less use of your brawn. There are also trades that require you to be able to use both.
To have a company pay for your schooling while you work is amazing. The best part is, you can quit at will (they may penalize you, as they are paying for your education in exchange for production.) and do something else. You'll also be exposed to.all of the other trades on the job which may spark interest outside of what you are doing. For instance, I started in the field doing duct work for a mechanical company and now work in the Elevator trade. Apprenticeships are where it is at. If you go to and pay for college, don't be the cut that takes BS classes and lands a job at Starbucks. Go big. But the work ethic these days is garbage and is dying. It isnt that hard to shine. Think about that and apply yourself. There are loads of opportunities out there and construction has many options and career opportunities to choose from. Good luck

Interesting to see how a Labourer works across the pond. I'm lucky that I can get up at 7am and start work at 8am as it is only a 2 mile drive (after I'm collected). In the UK we call a "crew" a gang. I'm only on small projects though. All the best to you and admire that you're using your spare time wisely. Peace - From Cornwall

    My experience of construction work:
    1. Go to work in the dark
    2. Fast paced, no nonsense work all day
    3. No sense of humour on ANY site
    4. Constantly fatigued or injured in some way but work still has to get done
    5. 15 minute break IF YOU’RE LUCKY
    6. Go home in the dark
    .....and repeat
