In zone 6 here in north-central Virginia this sage can still be a perennial. Planted in native clay with compost, covered in wood chips, against a block wall. 1/2 day full sun, with other sages and rosemary as neighbors. It completely dies back in late November, and I cut it down to the ground in January. By spring, new shoots come from the roots, each year reaching about 4ft tall. Create a microclimate and you can shift by a zone or two 😉
My pineapple sage is 3 yrs old and one is 5 ft tall and 5 ft wife while the other is 7 ft tall and 9 ft wide! I live in zone 8b but my town is a zone 9b , I live right next to the ocean which is why my temps are lower than just a 60 second walk inland! Pineapple sage grows better than most things I grow! It's the only thing I've got giant bushes of and I take cuttings every year and it becomes twice as dense and twice as tall everytime! I'm making a hedge out of them with all the rooted cuttings I already have from last winter and the thousands I'll have this winter!
Just bought a plant today , thanks for the information it was helpful and you're delightful as well ! I fell in love with the smell at the nursery . Your back ground view is beautiful , lucky you !
I dry it and sell it at my Etsy shop. It isn't as strong as culinary sage when dried so it doesn't overpower your dishes. Thanks for the information about its possible medicinal benefits. I am zone 6 so I grow it as an annual. It gets quite big.
This past spring I bought 2 little $3.99 pots of this at Home Depot in their herb transplant area. They grew like crazy in my SC zone 8A garden. Easily 6 feet tall. The bees and butterflies LOVE the deep red flowers on it. The plants are quite pretty with lovely green leaves. The flowers are pretty tossed in a salad too. I make sweet tea with regular tea and add some fresh pineapple sage leaves to the tea as it steeps. It has a delicate sweetness so I can avoid adding any refined sugar to my tea. I don't like it real sweet. I am going to dry a bunch to make more tea over the winter.
Interesting video. I happen to be checking out Pineapple Sage because I enjoy growing it here in Massachusetts. I presently have it in the house (November 29th) . Nice to see that you're using Low Carb. Don't think of it as a diet, it's a lifestyle. Also, exercise makes you feel good but won't help with weight loss. It's your body fat percentage which is more important. Even though I'm not diabetic I regularly use a glucometer to monitor my blood "sugar". That's a real game changer.
my pineapple sage flowered and attracted lovely honey bees. however i only had one plant in the yard and i think it won’t be able to seed without cross pollination. is this the case?
+randkell Low carb works for me but I think it may be because I get so tired of eating that I end up eating less. :) What I really need is a lot more exercise.

I cut up some leaves and mixed it with chopped strawberries and sweetened it up. It was so good. It added a very fresh flavor. God bless!

Just smelling it makes me smile
Very cool thanks! hope youre still having fun w it :)
I imagine it would make lovely jelly. My hummingbirds enjoy the flowers so I should too! The leaves I use in tea.
champagne vinegar is a wonderful vinegar so it does not work against the flavors...works especially well with citrus fruit as a dressing vinegar
I loved this video Amanda! I love your little inserts of humor as you're talking about herbs. Keep them coming! P.S. Good luck on the diet! 😊
+Delicious Obsessions Awww, thank you Jessica. Ohhhh, and thank you on the diet. Ugh.

My bees like it, too. This year I stripped off the dries "seeds" and threw them around. Don't really know if they are seeds.
I wish I could get my hands on some pineapple sage. I haven’t seen it here in Florida.
Home Depot and Lowes in Virginia sold it in 2021.
