For the first time ever, I actually agree with you. Heck I played the game a while ago and came back to it once and started platinuming everything again just because it is actually pretty fun. I think the opening level is fine honestly but I think that's because I like it when new people struggle and games don't hold my hand. I very much respect how they didn't stretch out the tutorial elements. _I hate that in modern games so much_ I like how they actually _made_ a combat system so going out of you're way to beat enemies actually feels substantial and requires skill. I love Devil May Cry so i also like how they implemented it by making a better performance give more rings. I've always wondered why Sonic games don't give rings for destroying enemies. It just made sense. Like yeah score is a fine a reward but it really does make a tangible difference cause im looking for a number thats directly tied to how many times I get hit. I've always hated how nothing and annoying SA2 is with the repetitive homing attacks. I genuinely didn't mind getting perfect runs in this game. The only thing I didn't like was how short it was. I liked the final levels way more than the others by a mile. i sorta wish more of them would be really difficult ngl. It feels like it stops escalation right before i was really digging it.
From knowing this project back on its first video from Wolf Bane, where all the textures were missing, cyberspace wasn't anywhere included... to this. Hats off to him man
I feel like you're missing out in a couple things with the combat area cus it genuinely flows really well with stage design imo if you know your way around using it a couple things in particular that I don't think the tutorial touches on for Sonic: - You can hold the action button when homing attacking an enemy to do sort of a sawblade move, that doesn't hurt much but it builds some of the momentum gauge (great for going from running to combat and filling it up for the time slow stomp thing) -the Spin Updraft can lift grounded enemies into the air if you hit it close enough to them, which allows you to homing attack off of them and get extra height -If you hold the action button while rolling into an enemy and then press the jump button you can carry them into the air with you while constantly hitting them, great for immediately attacking multiple enemies when you arrive in an area -Bouncing off of enemies without homing attacking them builds up to three levels of Phase Shot, which you can then fire at enemies by pressing jump again when you can work all of these into a route, I think you can get a new sense of control over Sonic that's unrivaled (and makes getting Ring S Rank easier if you can beat a lot of enemies fast to keep a high Action Rank) another way of playing the stages is trying to do "no momentum loss" runs where you never let Sonic go out of Boost mode(when you fill the momentum gauge and get the afterimages), it's an extremely fun challenge that requires some alternative routing to avoid/work around slower platforming sections without stopping Also a small addendum about the rankings in the current stages, the requirements for S ranks are fixed Under 1:30 for Time, 150+ for Rings
I hope they add a combat ranking system, the combat in this game is so simple yet fun, it's a shame it's basically useless to get a good rank besides getting rings from them

It’s similar to what it’s usually is, but it doesn’t just do the same thing as the classic. It’s not just copy and paste from either Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, or Sonic Mania. Ohhh you know what other Fangame you should try? Sonic Into The Cyberspace! It’s really fun. There’s also a bit of a learning curve to it, once you get down you feel awesome 😎!

It looks fun but I feel like the visual design could be a bit more focused, seems very empty and there are a lot of level design elements that don’t feel very “sonic-y” like the weird jagged staircase thing at the beginning of the level
Watching the vid and seeing how sonic was moving reminded me funnily enough of a sonic engine in scratch witch was actually extremely good, even if it only had a test level
God this game is hard to time-attack. I love how the game requires you to get rings for the s-rank, which works with the combat. The combat is also great although i dont understand its ranking system. I think that having the parameters for the s-rank the same for every level kinda limits what the level design can do, but the moveset is so cool. I wish you could double jump and then do the air-spindash thing, and that you could air dash upwards, then the moveset would be perfect
Im so used to the usual spindash, homing attack and such that im kinda just not able to adapt to this moveset. Its very cool but i really woulda done it less complicated if i knew how to.
I feel like Tails was better implemented than Knuckles, but I have to go back and experiment. Sonic felt nearly perfect though, and I get the feeling a lot of what Sonic does here might have been inspired by the really old Mecha Madness demo
That one level thats 90% rails is my favourite. I think its the combination of the cute music and difficulty spike. I fuck with that energy so much. The only thing I didn't like was the names of the levels being numbers like Frontiers. It's so weird playing a fan game, and you don't have any gripes with the actually playing the _game_ The Creator sorta had a devlog about making the game but it's not in large amounts of detail. I imagine it's cause Sonic fans have ADHD but i would've loved to hear more detailed thoughts on they're process while making the game.

Sonic Momentum is one of the only cases in Sonic fan games where the movesets are robust and very good at the same time, it is crazy.
Knuckles being able to spindash on a wall had me ready to combust on sight ngl
