Today I wanted to go over a few super simple and quick tips you can use to help make the basketball team. It doesn't matter if you're trying out for middle school, high school, or AAU you can use these hacks to impress your coach and put your best foot forward.
So keep these six keys in mind...
1) Communication
2) Don't Dribble Too Much
3) Don't be a Hero
4) Play Hard Defense
5) Listen to Coach
6) Stand Out to Coach
Now what's great is that these tryout tips are perfect to make ANY basketball team. Any level, boys, girls, it doesn't matter!

Alex Henry just move ur thumb away for the ball and do 3 sets of 10 with that position
use popsicle stick and tape it with your guide hands thumb. Basically you are casting it, so it doesn't move while you shoot. Coach Collin has a video on it, you might want to watch it.

As a coach with more than 30 years in the game I find Collin's hacks in this video to be spot on - and I've watched several of these "make your team" videos. If you want to stand out try introducing yourself to the coaching staff or doing other intangibles - I've never paid much attention to shorts or haircuts, especially when that person can't play to begin with.

+Willy Kabala I did too I made it past the first cut but the next time I got cut and once I looked at the roster I realized it was only football players on the team

I would only add this to the communication piece as a coach: be the player who goes up to the kid on the free throw line after a shot, make or miss, and give him some love. High five, fist bump, etc. Be the guy who gets excited for his teammates if they score. There are not enough of those guys so if you can authentically add that it's a win for you.
What I learned about my school when it comes to making the team.
1.become close with the coach. Once you're one of coaches favorites you'll automatically be on the team.
2. Become tall if you're not tall then become big. My high school coach didn't pick me cuz I was small and skinny but I could shoot better than most people including off the dribble. Haven't tried for my school team for two years and this was jv. So I decided to get bigger and tryout for a overseas team😎👍🏾.

You are only in grade 7? Master the midrange. When you are that young most coaches ban taking threes even if the line is there, plus, it will help you in the long run.

Thanks Man! I tried out as Center since I'm 6'6 (I'm really tall since my parents both above 6'3 and I made it. I get most minutes and I made the team due to my fact of getting rebounds consistently and scoring in the post consistently. I thought I couldn't make the team because I'm too nervous playing organized sports. I should of found this video earlier. I've been playing Center since grade 6 I never got the courage to try out. Speaking of sticking out, I went to a mostly black school and our coach was a little racists towards white people, he felt unless they just put on a show at try outs they weren't good. Well like 5 white people show up and their decent, not good enough to make the team and the coach would just get their names confused. Well one of them came back the second day of try outs with dreads and the coaches noticed him a lot more. They were calling him to do drills and they just felt they needed to learn more about that guy. To keep a long story short, he made the team and thats when i knew sticking out meant so much at try outs.

Hey guys thought I’d share my story on basketball.
So my friend told me about how I should tryout for their team they were div 4 and 3 and they where my skill at the time so I did. I first tried out for their team and they the best club in the state, On tryouts I was better than 90% of the players there I played well doing the drills well and listening to the coaches carefully, I also excelled in the physical aspects as well as the drills, (and also had good grades) the tryouts went for a week which made sense as they had to make sure they were certain with their choices. After a week or so I got a call back and they told me I did not make the team.
At first I was shocked on how I didn’t make it since I was better then the majority at the tryouts, but this just motivated me the following year, I worked hard and trained almost everyday on my jump shot, finishing moves and polishing my game. this time I tried out for a team further down south and I made it this time, I was so happy, I felt as if I all my hard work payed off. through that year I excelled and was moving up divisions quickly and overall improving, people were coming to my games just to see me. Coaches from other high clubs watched me and had interests as well. I eventually got to division 1 and was the top scorer in the league, (averaging 34 points and even getting in the 60’s some times. A few months later I got offered a scholarship and to play in my friends team I first tried out for ages ago, I rejected the offer and told them you should of picked me up when you had the chance.
A few months later my friends got moved up to division 1 and we ended up playing them in the finals and I dragged my team to the win with 39 points 12 rebounds 8 assists My story just shows what can happen with hard work and motivation as I hope to motivate YOU. Work for your dreams just as I worked for mine.
