    This should be the first video a beginner guitarist watches after learning a few chord shapes. it is incredibly well represented and explained. I have only stumbled across your channel recently and I'm glad that I did you make very quality and digestible videos. thank you for your contribution to the guitar community and improving the learning process of self-taught musicians!

    There's a voicing of Gmajor#9 the Beatles use in... I can't even remember the song because it defeats my beginners hands. It's either Taxman or Ticket to Ride, and it goes like this: you barre the third fret, your ring finger is on the fifth fret of the A string, your middle finger is on the fourth fret of the G string, and your little finger is on the fifth fret of both the high E and B strings.
    Just throwing it out there for intermediate players, to see if they can do something that's kicking my ass. Getting the F on the D string to ring out is the hard part.

    Great video, Andrew. I like the illustrations and color coding. Very effective technique. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. And by the way, I don’t care about the the clickbait stuff. I know the game you have to play with TH-cam to get your videos posted and seen. Thanks again for posting.

    Clearly explained! But how realistic is it to make the A-shaped barre chord using the index (for the barre) and the ring finger on the B, G, and D strings (without muting the first string)? That would free up the pinky and middle finger to hit other notes. I see some guitarists who can do that, but I find it nearly impossible. I see @6:31 that you use your pinky to cover strings 2, 3 & 4.

    • @andrewclarkeguitar
      @andrewclarkeguitar  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I pretty much exclusively play the A-shaped bar chords by using my 3rd or 4th finger to cover strings 2, 3, & 4. When I do this, I intentionally mute the high E string so it doesn't come through. It's not necessary for the chord.

    Lesson Suggestion: Modes made simple. It is my belief but I havent bothered to confirm that the primary modes can all be played by taking a major scale shape and moving it to appropriate places. We all know that we can take a major scale shape and move it up three frets to get the same minor scale. I think up 7 or down 5 gets you Mixolydian but I could be wrong. I think the other modes can be found easily the same way but haven't confirmed that. A lesson/talk on that would be very interesting. "I don't want to know the theory behind modes. I just want to have some fun exploring them and adding them to my arsenal with a minumum if work." Yes, I make lazy an artform.

    Why is the 7th note in the key of G a sharp? The other ones you showed weren't like that. Is that just something you have to memorize? That in the key of G the 7th note is an F#dim not just Fdim?

      Andrew's channel is unlikely to grow without clickbaity titles and thumbtitles. It's not about you or I, we know about him, it's about the TH-cam algorithm offering it in the feed of the millions who don't know about him. It's ruthless.
