I feel like alot of people missed the point of the new true ending it's to reflect that life isn't always how you want it and things ending are inevitable to reflect what you fought for in the real ending.
@@brandonwolford5021 Yes, but the new True Ending for Persona 5 Royal also fits will with the hints towards a sequel game since Ren saw a glimpse of his Metaverse self when he looked at his reflection in the window. It said his story was not yet over and that there was more to come.
@@may3ck If that was really the case, he wouldn't have been surprised when he saw his Metaverse self in the reflection. He saw that his journey as a Phantom Thief was in fact not over and he is now excited for whenever the day comes when he'll get back to work with the rest of his teammates. That's why Scrambled still ties in with Royal.
I kinda get the feeling that fact sumire being missing day before symbolize that, there isn't any good bye between joker and her, because she might be canon romance for her.

What's so great about Royal's true ending is that it isn't an "ideal" end, it's a "real" one. A perfect ending after fighting for an imperfect real world would not feel right, so the more bittersweet ending is fitting to close off not only the game, but Maruki's arc.
I prefer how the wholesomeness of the Original Ending would have perfectly reflected that reality is not as bad as people make it look like, and that each one of us has the potential to have our own Happy Ever After with our own hands, thus proving that Maruki was actually wrong.
@@TheHICking That's a really fatalist way to view reality, and under that logic of yours, then accepting Maruki's reality would actually be the best outcome. Featuring the Vanilla Ending (or at least a slightly altered version of it) would highlight the most positive aspects of reality, and thus actually *show* why not letting Maruki win was for the best. But I guess that being angsty, edgy and apathetic is "cooler" nowdays.

Unpopularly I like the new true ending more than the orginal, watching Joker return home on his own really hit for me, especially that nod to their metaverse adventure still arent over. It really hyped me up to play scramble
Well it's written in a way where it could be both, the only thing which wouldn't make sense is Sumire's absence, which technically can be explained if you want by saying she's on a training camp or something like that. It's not like she was the best of friends with the group anyways, they spent like what, a month together? Compare that to even Haru who was in the team for much longer. Honestly either ending fits fine enough into Scramble and we'll just have to see what happens in future spin-offs, especially in a possible Arena game, which they would definitely want her in and keep it to the canon
I actually got the original ending. How do you get the new true ending? By maxing out your relationship with the new confidants in Royal? And how tf down the good ending work? How is Akechi chilling with the group like he didnt try to assassinste me? This is my first persona game I ever played so idk too much

In order to get the Royal True Ending i believe you only have to get Dr. Maruki to rank 9 before Nov 17 and you have to reject his reality every time he asks you to accept it during the third semester. I don't know if you also have to get rank 8 or 9 Akechi at least until the mementos duel also before Nov. 17 to actually get the true ending or just only extra scenes in the gameplay. I you want to have the Full Royal Experience you should get the Unlock third semester (Maruki rank 9 before Nov. 17) get akechi (Rank 8/9 before Nov. 17) and get Kasumi max and then romance her in the third semester (Rank 5 then the rest unlocks in third semester). Then in third semester reject his reality. Be sure that after the mementos duel with akechi tell him that "we're rivals" then remember his promise when you are in bed after you bump with him in shido's palace. then in Feb. 2 in the third semester tell him you are going not going to accept maruki's reality. His persona should evolve.

What I like about the new ending: 1. Joker's friends actually saying goodbye to him in this cutscene 2. During the end credits, it focused on each Phantom Thieves' goals and lifelong dreams (just like in the Pokemon anime when Ash and his friends part ways) 3. The post-credits scene in Royal is better than the one in the original thanks to foreshadowing Akechi So I actually like both the endings in the original and Royal
Don’t be too surprised if that happened to just be somebody cosplaying the Ace Detective of their time .. I know it’s most likely Akechi, but it could easily be just a fan who is dressing up as him (like how Yoshizawa isn’t in Strikers)
I like the contrast between maruki’s perfect reality ending and the true royal ending. This is the life you fought for, and it is unfair sometimes as the good times will eventually and inevitably come to an end, compared to maruki’s world where everyone stays together and it’s all fun times for the rest of their lives. The bittersweet truth of reality is what these characters have grown to accept throughout the game, and I think it worked perfectly tbh.
I hate the new “good” bad ending in which Maruki’s reality plays out. It gives me chills to think about it. It’s so wrong. Morgana, Akechi’s demeanor, “Kasumi,” and the general feeling pervading of something being off all contribute to its creepiness. I’m not saying the true ending is perfect, but it’s much more agreeable. At least the gang got to choose their own paths it that ending.
I think the most messed up part of maruki is even after realizing he can change everything he leaves surmire as kasumi because he believes she is happier with sumire dead and her becoming kasumi who she was always jealous of.
I romanced Sumire because I absolutely loved her and I would do it again. Though, the ending with her that you get is so lackluster and kinda disappointed me. A few words and that was it.
I agree so much! I honestly love her as a character and this ending in which she acted how she did really made me sad. This isn’t the Sumire that I know and the one that was almost crying when Joker returned home after being caught. This isn’t MY Sumire...
Danky wait guys, I though about it for a bit, and I think I found the reason as to why Sumire was acting how she was. So first off, she was coming back from practice of course she couldn’t be with the other PTs, right. And secondly, she was informed that the cops were after Joker so make it quick, sine everyone is trying their hardest to make sure that the cops don’t see Joker going back home. So obviously when she was talking to Joker, in her mind, she was trying to keep it quick, and she was also obviously unaware that she didn’t have to anymore since the other PTs drove the cops away. And plus, all of the PTs, Sumire included, have such a strong bond with Joker that they don’t need words to express their feelings. They all know for sure that they’re going to meet again, and they can do so whenever they want to. So with all that in mind, that kind of justifies why best-girl, Sumire, did what she did. Right?
She respects your decision but also hates how quick you were to lighten your sentence, mainly because you just admitted that her sister was apart of the PT
The new good ending is fascinating… I loved the fact that joker know about the fake reality and say nothing… it allows the viewer to make us understand that this is not the right solution… a life without failure has no purpose… and shows us that failures are part of life and we must not complain about them but accept them to improve ourselves… it only makes moments of joy happier… Thank you atlus for getting this message out… Persona 5 is a fuc7!ng master piece… people no longer complained about the injuries but accepted and lifting you up will make you stronger 💪
I think the best word to describe the new "good" ending is uncanny. Like the whole thing is nice and all but it just seems a little to good to be true leading to a ominous vibe for the scene.
Yeah it feels abrupt and unfinished. Not unfinished as in the devs didn’t finish it and more as in “we aren’t done yet but stop anyways” As if someone just said “and they lived happily ever after” and leaves, without actually resolving the story
I finished Royal a few days ago and choose the new true ending. I get why people call it bittersweet. It sure is but I think that's what makes it beautiful. The vanilla true ending just didn't click with me that much. But regarding the infamous goodbye scene at the train station. Personally I see it as the mature ending for the main Royal duo (Joker and Sumire). I mean, Sumire surely matured thoughout the entire course of the game. Maybe I missed the point but it wasn't just that she said "lol, bye" to him and went away. Maybe it's just me projecting my real-life situation onto the game but her saying "Good luck" in the context of previous 3 hours (that is maxing her confidant and choosing the relationship) seems more like "We promised each other we're gonna help each other out. I'm not saying goodbye because we'll meet again. It might take a long time but I know we will".
Royal gives the original game besides of all the new content and the improvements in really all! parts of the game, including gameplay, mechanics, story, a very strong and philosophical message with, much more than it ever was before. P5 Royal is by far an outstanding and very intriguing videogame.
I liked sumire as a character but i felt that the game push her as a canon rommance for the MC which i didnt liked much since i chose Makoto. Also Maruki is one of the most unique antagonsits I've seen in a video game, a true neutral good character taken to the extreme I sympathise and disagree with him at the same time.
I finished P5R last night for the first time. I have to say I prefer the Royal True Ending. Yes it's bittersweet, but that's the point. A "perfectly wrapped in a bow" ending is not what the Phantom Thieves started their crusade for. They wanted people to have their own agency against injustice. Akechi says it perfectly, he will "not be a slave in someone else's reality." The New Good Ending makes everyone into NPCs in Maruki's world. Sure the Phantom Thieves get to disband and live happy and long lives after a job well done with no pain, no suffering, no bitterness. But that's a very hollow life, if everything is happy for you, you're not making any real choices. Everything is guided, on rails for you. The Old Good Ending is similar, the Phantom Thieves become eternal crusaders fighting against injustice, they have fun doing it, but it's a world rampant with distortions on purpose to give them those fights. Both good endings seem good on the surface, but when you look deeper, the cost is free will and the world being wrong in subtle and creepy ways. Both Good Endings are the Matrix, but with either a True Neutral (Maruki) or a Neutral Evil (God of Control) being controlling reality. The Phantom Thieves are rebels at their core, fighting for freedom and their own brand of justice. To quote another great story about choices... "A man chooses, a slave obeys."
The same here. The ride in original true ending has a touch of good feelings of totally carefreenes and freedom for them all, the new is almost depressing. I must confess that i wish them all now the new "good ending" where they can be really lucky indeed ... who cares about manipulated cognition :D
Feeling the same... but I think this is a more open ending for Persona Scramble, a game we are not sure to have one day since Atlus have no plans for a western release... And it seems we can't count on Sega!
I feel like no one notices the work that goes into the true ending. They managed to have dialogue that makes sense whether their confidant was rank 1 or you fucked them.

I played the vanilla version of the game twice and got the true ending on both playthroughs. I was very satisfied with how the game truly ended where it leaves me with a good feeling after beating it. When I got Persona 5 Royal, I played through the game to get the new true ending. That ending left me with an empty feeling like how some people felt about this ending compared to vanilla’s true ending. I get this ending is supposed to be bittersweet, but it didn’t appeal to me after playing the original game. I am willing to bet if Royal was my first experience with Persona 5 and got the new true ending, I would have just accepted the ending; the ending was not really satisfying compared to when I got Persona 4 Golden’s ending. Months ago, I decided to play Royal again just to get the original true ending with free costume dlc from the PSN store. I was still very satisfied with how Persona 5 Royal would have ended right there. If that was my first experience with getting the original true ending in Royal, it would have made me lean towards that ending by a large margin. If I do decide to play the game again, I would choose to get the original true ending again and not Royal’s true ending; one playthrough of the third semester was just enough for me to see the new ending.
I was really expecting to get Human Morgana in my ending but I loved it either way. I had the Original True Ending but i have time to explore the other ones either way this game is my Fav now!❤😄
The reason I don't like the new true ending is it's basically sequel bait. The old ending was basically, we're not the phantom thieves anymore but it's not like we're gonna stop being friends. Royal baits for Scramble. While I am excited for Scramble, I am definitely not a fan of the Royal true ending.
@@ashtoric this was before scramble was released. But still the fact that Royal's ending feels like sequel bait still holds up. I like the fact that since vanilla had a satisfying ending, the return for scramble felt like seeing old friends again rather than if they came from royal, it would feel like just seeing the gang again after a week of not getting to talk or see them.

@@Morichoradiolate as hell but Colors Flying High is all about sticking to your own ethics and morals, and fighting for the life YOU fought for and not someone else, which is a major theme of the 3rd semester arc. Fits perfectly for Royal’s ending arc.
Just beat the game for the first time, and came here to see other people's opinions about the endings (I got the new true ending btw). While I think that the new ending is more fitting with how the story plays out in the third semester, I can't help but feel unsatisfied. I don't know, I guess playing this after P3 and P4G made my expectations way too high. I just feel like they could have done more. Persona 3 also has a "bittersweet" ending but I think they executed it way better compared to P5R IMO. Plus, getting a bittersweet ending after playing through the game for 100+ hours feels so unrewarding.
You know, technically, Joker saying that the members of the Phantom Thieves aren't his accomplices is only a half lie, as she never said Morgana, meaning Joker could be saying they're not the only accomplices

Maruki stuff happens on January and February.Akechi is the only one not reference why because he assumed be dead and royal showed clear point that akechi is alive but most likely is in hiding like did you even play the games at all.

even better- that's the deadline ending for shido's palace, which means that you can get that ending after akechi is supposedly killed. either that was a massive oversight on the devs' part or some deus ex machina shit went down
I don't like it. Because they forgot their justice and what brought them together. In this ending the phantom thieves never existed and no one has their own "heart/rebellion". Because that's what brings the world forward.

All of the endings save the “true” endings are bad endings, even the one where you accept Maruki’s reality. That’s not considered a “good” ending, even though it may seem good. Same goes for the original “good” ending. It’s obvious that Joker has turned evil somehow, so it is in no way good.
@@simpleconcept3698 It’s not since the original good ending from P5 is the true ending of that game. So as I said, any ending that is not the “true” ending in either P5 or P5R is generally seen as a bad ending.
@@simpleconcept3698 In the original game, if you accept Yaldabaoth’s deal, the ending cutscene shows Joker with an evil smirk on his face as he walks through the world of distorted masses. In Royal, the reason why I say the “good” ending isn’t actually good is because Maruki forcefully re-wrote the cognitions of everyone to live their “happy” lives. The main issue with this is due to one of the driving themes of Persona 5, which is learning to fight back against the injustices of society rather than just live in blissful ignorance. That was one of Yaldabaoth’s goals, and then it became Maruki’s after Yaldabaoth was defeated. Also, if you watch some of the scenes with Akechi in the third semester, there is a reason why he refuses to let Maruki control his destiny. One of Akechi’s goals as a character was to destroy Shido and remove himself from his grasp. Shido was the entire reason why Akechi became the way he did and began killing all of those people before the game started. Now with Maruki forcing a reality on Akechi, he can’t bear to allow it to happen, considering his circumstances. That is another reason why the “good” ending is bad, since Akechi loses all control over his life. Sumire also loses her identity as Sumire and becomes “Kasumi” again, which is only causing her to run from the truth. Overall, while everyone may seem happy, in reality the good ending is quite sinister considering the circumstances that led up to it.
I still can't believe I'll have to play Sae's Boss fight, Shido's Palace and Yaldabaoth's arc twice just to get a profile where I can play the better ending. Only because I can't get the Third Semester and the Original True Ending in the same run.

In my opinion, the uploader is doing a disservice by calling it a "good" ending; it looks good on the surface, but knowing the context of it makes it extremely bleak and dissatisfying (much like the "bad ending" of Persona 3).

SO IS PANCAKES ALIVE??? I already played this and I need to know. I had the new true ending by the way. Where I did Sumire’s, Akechi’s, and Maruki’s confidant. Akechi is at 4:15. Is that akechi? Also if there were to be a persona 6, would it have the same characters and cast? Sumire, Makoto, Ann, Yuskue, Ryuji, Futaba, Morgana, Joker, and obviously Morgana? (Maybe Akechi) This is my first persona game and I loved it, I’ve read that 3&4 had the same characters so maybe 5r and 6 would be similar.
Persona 3 and 4 have completely different casts. The only overlap is in P4, their school trip is they visit the P3 school, so you see a handful of the P3 confidants and teachers, but that's it. None of the P3 party members make an appearance in P4. The only overlap is in the Sequel games Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. And also Persona Q and Persona Q 2, although the rules there are...kinda different.
No persona 6 would not have the Phantom thieves in it as it would have a whole new cast, however that isn't a bad thing. I played 5 first then 4 then 3. Each time I went in expecting something from 5, never got it and never cared either. Each games has it's own story with thrilling characters and I recommend playing persona 3 fes ps2 or ps3 store then persona 4 golden vita. You'll love them all as much as 5 I guarantee. And if you havent been spoiled I'd recommend avoiding as much as you can those games have wicked spoilers you'd wish you hadn't seen.
No spoilering, u know Akechi is alive in Xmas eve, when Sae talks to u and in Royal, Akechi appears and takes the fall for the MC. I don't know if u got that part?
Just finished this game and just got the new true ending. Just want to say that the new true ending kinda disappointing just because the fact that they make Sumire just kinda there and no actual farewell. After all they (MC and Sumire) have been through, the farewell feels like they're a stranger, not to mention that we can't say good bye to her too the day before we move out. Beside all of that, the game is really great, the story has some flaws but still really good regardless, the ending is good too (beside my rant about Sumire farewell).
I might be wrong. The post-credit, the MC taking off his glasses symbolizes that Joker is ready his mask off and become a normal teenager again. As normal as he can get with his reputation, being in juvie and all.
A few dialogue choices with Akechi throughout the game. You accept his challenge when he throws his glove at you, and choose all dialogue options about "keeping your promise" when they come up.

Awesome.😑 Old True Ending or Maruki Ending are much better. Sorry, I don't want a "Bittersweet ending" after a weeks of playing. I put my heart into this game and loved all these characters not to feel bitter at the end, I get *enough of that shit in regular life where things don't happen the way you plan them to*. With a game and story this massive, I just want to see the credits say "And they lived happily ever after, The End".

So does the original ending still exist in royal? Ive seen everywhere online that it does but for some reason they use old clips of the original game (with the old font being a massive giveaway) also if the old ending does exist is the ending theme still the same. Just curious
I was wondering the same thing. I've heard that you can only access the third semester by getting Maruki's confidant to the maximum rank. If that's the case, you might get the true ending from the original P5 instead if you fail to do that.
@@cheesytoenail8978 I actually haven't played vanilla P5, but from what I can tell that ending is the exact same. There was nothing new including Maruki or Yoshizawa or even mentioning them. Just the scene where they take Joker home in the bus.

Although I still got forever to figure this out I would like to know what should I do in this situation. My goal in this game is to get the original true ending then get the third semester true ending after that. Which way would be faster in your opinion? Should I start ranking up the characters required then create a second save file once I get the councillor to rank 8 that I go to once I complete the first save file or just focus on beating the game with the original ending then do a NG+ game where I skip all the dialogue I already read while mainly focusing on ranking the characters needed?
The question I was asking was to create save when I max rank maruki and do the vanilla ending on the first file or do a new game+ after getting the vanilla ending. I chose to do the second save file and then realised that I wasted my time because royals ending is just an enhanced version of vanillas ending.

Hmmm, in that case DON'T befriend Maruki much But you'll have to replay a big chunk of the game most likely I'd make a few saves when Maruki first shows up at the school, and use one for not friending him (original TE) and one for friending him (new)

It seems you missed Royal Bad Ending? The one when Phantom Thieves did not send the calling card to Maruki till deadline, in the end Maruki disappointed Joker still cant make decision, thus giving Joker a salvation by giving him a rest (sleeping) for eternal so Joker doesn't have to think everything, even Lavenza failed to reach him, forever.
Damn Royal true ending is such a letdown. Good thing I was playing the original. In Royal your best friends just see you for a seecond and then drive off, sayin 'see ya!'. Damn...
I think to get the new good ending is to not unlock the third semester and how do you get the original true ending(the p5 original) (Edit I got p5r's true ending).
I just wish they did something a little more with sumire in this ending. she literally confessed first. at the very least they should've made her join the rest of the group on the bus.... maybe have a solo hug session with Joker idk and maybe they could've made akechi take sumire's place here, with a disguise or something going like "i told you I wouldn't let anyone decide my fate didn't I?" (although tbh the vagueness of it all already fits him perfectly)
Personally, I REALLY prefer the OG true ending to Royal’s. I get what they were going for with the Third Semester, but it essentially writes itself out of existence beyond the bittersweet ending with Maruki and Sumire. The OG ending was far more triumphant with the Phantom Thieves riding together as a nice sendoff and victory lap for spending over 100 hours to both take back their freedom from the wicked as well as reform society from the God of Control.
the animation for the true ending cutscene seems a bit more rushed in the new game. i understand they probably had less time to perfect everything than they had for the vanilla game but it doesn’t stop their faces from looking kinda wonky
My headcanon is that Joker finishes highschool at home, where there is only a year for him left, to then return to Tokyo where the PTs regroup as a regular group of friends. Joker eventually takes over LeBlanc when Sojiro goes into retirement together with his wife (insert your personal headcanon wife here). Still, I very much hope there will be a P5R sequel. Not a spin off like Strikers, which didn't even take the Royal characters into account as it came earlier, a proper sequel. I think these characters deserve it, even for the standards of the Persona series, they are truly something special.
Yeah, it kinda reminds me of the Persona 4 Golden ending where you don’t defeat Izanami. You do all the right things and catch the bad guy but the fogs still not lifted. It’s very bittersweet but puts up the facade that everything is just right

The Erricane to unlock The Royal section of the game you have to get Dr Maruki up to rank 9 before November 18th. So to get the original true ending just simply play the game as the original and essentially just ignore Maruki
To me, the new "good" ending look more terrifying than the original "good" ending. The fact that everyone (except Joker) have forgotten everything of the "real" reality, meaning they will live with Maruki's illusion is creepy.

He saw that his journey as a Phantom Thief was in fact not over and he is now excited for whenever the day comes when he'll get back to work with the rest of his teammates. That's why Scrambled still ties in with Royal.
Tbh the only thing I didn't like about this ending is Sumire having a short goodbye.
Everyone had short goodbyes if you think about it and they left plenty open to more sequels probably beyond Scramble, especially Akechi’s fate

What's so great about Royal's true ending is that it isn't an "ideal" end, it's a "real" one. A perfect ending after fighting for an imperfect real world would not feel right, so the more bittersweet ending is fitting to close off not only the game, but Maruki's arc.
I prefer how the wholesomeness of the Original Ending would have perfectly reflected that reality is not as bad as people make it look like, and that each one of us has the potential to have our own Happy Ever After with our own hands, thus proving that Maruki was actually wrong.

Unpopularly I like the new true ending more than the orginal, watching Joker return home on his own really hit for me, especially that nod to their metaverse adventure still arent over. It really hyped me up to play scramble

Well it's written in a way where it could be both, the only thing which wouldn't make sense is Sumire's absence, which technically can be explained if you want by saying she's on a training camp or something like that. It's not like she was the best of friends with the group anyways, they spent like what, a month together? Compare that to even Haru who was in the team for much longer.
Honestly either ending fits fine enough into Scramble and we'll just have to see what happens in future spin-offs, especially in a possible Arena game, which they would definitely want her in and keep it to the canon

In order to get the Royal True Ending i believe you only have to get Dr. Maruki to rank 9 before Nov 17 and you have to reject his reality every time he asks you to accept it during the third semester. I don't know if you also have to get rank 8 or 9 Akechi at least until the mementos duel also before Nov. 17 to actually get the true ending or just only extra scenes in the gameplay. I you want to have the Full Royal Experience you should get the Unlock third semester (Maruki rank 9 before Nov. 17) get akechi (Rank 8/9 before Nov. 17) and get Kasumi max and then romance her in the third semester (Rank 5 then the rest unlocks in third semester). Then in third semester reject his reality. Be sure that after the mementos duel with akechi tell him that "we're rivals" then remember his promise when you are in bed after you bump with him in shido's palace. then in Feb. 2 in the third semester tell him you are going not going to accept maruki's reality. His persona should evolve.

2. During the end credits, it focused on each Phantom Thieves' goals and lifelong dreams (just like in the Pokemon anime when Ash and his friends part ways)
3. The post-credits scene in Royal is better than the one in the original thanks to foreshadowing Akechi

I like the contrast between maruki’s perfect reality ending and the true royal ending. This is the life you fought for, and it is unfair sometimes as the good times will eventually and inevitably come to an end, compared to maruki’s world where everyone stays together and it’s all fun times for the rest of their lives. The bittersweet truth of reality is what these characters have grown to accept throughout the game, and I think it worked perfectly tbh.
I hate the new “good” bad ending in which Maruki’s reality plays out. It gives me chills to think about it. It’s so wrong. Morgana, Akechi’s demeanor, “Kasumi,” and the general feeling pervading of something being off all contribute to its creepiness. I’m not saying the true ending is perfect, but it’s much more agreeable. At least the gang got to choose their own paths it that ending.

Danky wait guys, I though about it for a bit, and I think I found the reason as to why Sumire was acting how she was. So first off, she was coming back from practice of course she couldn’t be with the other PTs, right. And secondly, she was informed that the cops were after Joker so make it quick, sine everyone is trying their hardest to make sure that the cops don’t see Joker going back home. So obviously when she was talking to Joker, in her mind, she was trying to keep it quick, and she was also obviously unaware that she didn’t have to anymore since the other PTs drove the cops away. And plus, all of the PTs, Sumire included, have such a strong bond with Joker that they don’t need words to express their feelings. They all know for sure that they’re going to meet again, and they can do so whenever they want to. So with all that in mind, that kind of justifies why best-girl, Sumire, did what she did. Right?

The new good ending is fascinating… I loved the fact that joker know about the fake reality and say nothing… it allows the viewer to make us understand that this is not the right solution… a life without failure has no purpose… and shows us that failures are part of life and we must not complain about them but accept them to improve ourselves… it only makes moments of joy happier… Thank you atlus for getting this message out… Persona 5 is a fuc7!ng master piece… people no longer complained about the injuries but accepted and lifting you up will make you stronger 💪

I finished Royal a few days ago and choose the new true ending. I get why people call it bittersweet. It sure is but I think that's what makes it beautiful. The vanilla true ending just didn't click with me that much. But regarding the infamous goodbye scene at the train station. Personally I see it as the mature ending for the main Royal duo (Joker and Sumire). I mean, Sumire surely matured thoughout the entire course of the game. Maybe I missed the point but it wasn't just that she said "lol, bye" to him and went away. Maybe it's just me projecting my real-life situation onto the game but her saying "Good luck" in the context of previous 3 hours (that is maxing her confidant and choosing the relationship) seems more like "We promised each other we're gonna help each other out. I'm not saying goodbye because we'll meet again. It might take a long time but I know we will".
Royal gives the original game besides of all the new content and the improvements in really all! parts of the game, including gameplay, mechanics, story, a very strong and philosophical message with, much more than it ever was before. P5 Royal is by far an outstanding and very intriguing videogame.
I liked sumire as a character but i felt that the game push her as a canon rommance for the MC which i didnt liked much since i chose Makoto. Also Maruki is one of the most unique antagonsits I've seen in a video game, a true neutral good character taken to the extreme I sympathise and disagree with him at the same time.
I finished P5R last night for the first time. I have to say I prefer the Royal True Ending. Yes it's bittersweet, but that's the point. A "perfectly wrapped in a bow" ending is not what the Phantom Thieves started their crusade for. They wanted people to have their own agency against injustice.
Akechi says it perfectly, he will "not be a slave in someone else's reality." The New Good Ending makes everyone into NPCs in Maruki's world. Sure the Phantom Thieves get to disband and live happy and long lives after a job well done with no pain, no suffering, no bitterness. But that's a very hollow life, if everything is happy for you, you're not making any real choices. Everything is guided, on rails for you. The Old Good Ending is similar, the Phantom Thieves become eternal crusaders fighting against injustice, they have fun doing it, but it's a world rampant with distortions on purpose to give them those fights.
Both good endings seem good on the surface, but when you look deeper, the cost is free will and the world being wrong in subtle and creepy ways. Both Good Endings are the Matrix, but with either a True Neutral (Maruki) or a Neutral Evil (God of Control) being controlling reality. The Phantom Thieves are rebels at their core, fighting for freedom and their own brand of justice.
To quote another great story about choices... "A man chooses, a slave obeys."
I like that Phantom Thieves are able to talk to Morgana even after metaverse has gone

I played the vanilla version of the game twice and got the true ending on both playthroughs. I was very satisfied with how the game truly ended where it leaves me with a good feeling after beating it. When I got Persona 5 Royal, I played through the game to get the new true ending. That ending left me with an empty feeling like how some people felt about this ending compared to vanilla’s true ending. I get this ending is supposed to be bittersweet, but it didn’t appeal to me after playing the original game.
I am willing to bet if Royal was my first experience with Persona 5 and got the new true ending, I would have just accepted the ending; the ending was not really satisfying compared to when I got Persona 4 Golden’s ending. Months ago, I decided to play Royal again just to get the original true ending with free costume dlc from the PSN store. I was still very satisfied with how Persona 5 Royal would have ended right there. If that was my first experience with getting the original true ending in Royal, it would have made me lean towards that ending by a large margin. If I do decide to play the game again, I would choose to get the original true ending again and not Royal’s true ending; one playthrough of the third semester was just enough for me to see the new ending.

Just beat the game for the first time, and came here to see other people's opinions about the endings (I got the new true ending btw). While I think that the new ending is more fitting with how the story plays out in the third semester, I can't help but feel unsatisfied.
I don't know, I guess playing this after P3 and P4G made my expectations way too high. I just feel like they could have done more. Persona 3 also has a "bittersweet" ending but I think they executed it way better compared to P5R IMO. Plus, getting a bittersweet ending after playing through the game for 100+ hours feels so unrewarding.
You know, technically, Joker saying that the members of the Phantom Thieves aren't his accomplices is only a half lie, as she never said Morgana, meaning Joker could be saying they're not the only accomplices

All of the endings save the “true” endings are bad endings, even the one where you accept Maruki’s reality. That’s not considered a “good” ending, even though it may seem good. Same goes for the original “good” ending. It’s obvious that Joker has turned evil somehow, so it is in no way good.

@@simpleconcept3698 In the original game, if you accept Yaldabaoth’s deal, the ending cutscene shows Joker with an evil smirk on his face as he walks through the world of distorted masses. In Royal, the reason why I say the “good” ending isn’t actually good is because Maruki forcefully re-wrote the cognitions of everyone to live their “happy” lives. The main issue with this is due to one of the driving themes of Persona 5, which is learning to fight back against the injustices of society rather than just live in blissful ignorance. That was one of Yaldabaoth’s goals, and then it became Maruki’s after Yaldabaoth was defeated. Also, if you watch some of the scenes with Akechi in the third semester, there is a reason why he refuses to let Maruki control his destiny. One of Akechi’s goals as a character was to destroy Shido and remove himself from his grasp. Shido was the entire reason why Akechi became the way he did and began killing all of those people before the game started. Now with Maruki forcing a reality on Akechi, he can’t bear to allow it to happen, considering his circumstances. That is another reason why the “good” ending is bad, since Akechi loses all control over his life. Sumire also loses her identity as Sumire and becomes “Kasumi” again, which is only causing her to run from the truth. Overall, while everyone may seem happy, in reality the good ending is quite sinister considering the circumstances that led up to it.

I still can't believe I'll have to play Sae's Boss fight, Shido's Palace and Yaldabaoth's arc twice just to get a profile where I can play the better ending. Only because I can't get the Third Semester and the Original True Ending in the same run.
Worst for me, is the Okumura part, is my least favorite part, and Royal palaces are more fast paced than the original.

In my opinion, the uploader is doing a disservice by calling it a "good" ending; it looks good on the surface, but knowing the context of it makes it extremely bleak and dissatisfying (much like the "bad ending" of Persona 3).

SO IS PANCAKES ALIVE??? I already played this and I need to know. I had the new true ending by the way. Where I did Sumire’s, Akechi’s, and Maruki’s confidant. Akechi is at 4:15. Is that akechi?
Also if there were to be a persona 6, would it have the same characters and cast? Sumire, Makoto, Ann, Yuskue, Ryuji, Futaba, Morgana, Joker, and obviously Morgana? (Maybe Akechi) This is my first persona game and I loved it, I’ve read that 3&4 had the same characters so maybe 5r and 6 would be similar.
Persona 3 and 4 have completely different casts. The only overlap is in P4, their school trip is they visit the P3 school, so you see a handful of the P3 confidants and teachers, but that's it. None of the P3 party members make an appearance in P4. The only overlap is in the Sequel games Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. And also Persona Q and Persona Q 2, although the rules there are...kinda different.
No persona 6 would not have the Phantom thieves in it as it would have a whole new cast, however that isn't a bad thing. I played 5 first then 4 then 3. Each time I went in expecting something from 5, never got it and never cared either. Each games has it's own story with thrilling characters and I recommend playing persona 3 fes ps2 or ps3 store then persona 4 golden vita. You'll love them all as much as 5 I guarantee. And if you havent been spoiled I'd recommend avoiding as much as you can those games have wicked spoilers you'd wish you hadn't seen.

Just finished this game and just got the new true ending.
Just want to say that the new true ending kinda disappointing just because the fact that they make Sumire just kinda there and no actual farewell. After all they (MC and Sumire) have been through, the farewell feels like they're a stranger, not to mention that we can't say good bye to her too the day before we move out.
Beside all of that, the game is really great, the story has some flaws but still really good regardless, the ending is good too (beside my rant about Sumire farewell).

I might be wrong. The post-credit, the MC taking off his glasses symbolizes that Joker is ready his mask off and become a normal teenager again. As normal as he can get with his reputation, being in juvie and all.

A few dialogue choices with Akechi throughout the game. You accept his challenge when he throws his glove at you, and choose all dialogue options about "keeping your promise" when they come up.
Joker returning home was stupid. Especially since his parents wanted to get rid of him and he built a new familial relationship with Sojiro and Futaba.😒
And actually, after 144.4 hours in Steam (beated P5R for the first time, came out to New True Ending), I'm not thrilled to see my heart broken by the fact that a close-knit team that has become a true "family" during their journey just takes off and.... scatter into the world, never to meet again. Awesome.😑

I put my heart into this game and loved all these characters not to feel bitter at the end, I get *enough of that shit in regular life where things don't happen the way you plan them to*. With a game and story this massive, I just want to see the credits say "And they lived happily ever after, The End".

@@SinatraTL You only need to Max Maruki and Kasumi, you don't have to do Aketchi, but it will add some extra scenes if you do.
Man. I had to check up if the ending was actually real (for real!?). I liked the ending even tho it's sad and man why do they always had to be sad. Someone really hyped having Akechi confidant in max that you get a special ending and this... Umm... Ok? I mean it's cool but I had my hopes up for crow boy ending, eh? Like a good bye or sth strange? And Sumire... Oh Sumire I dated you, you were obviously in looove with joker (based on the confidant route) and you only tell me to take care? Cool. Girl imma date someone else in NG+ and it has a + so it might be better. 🙄 Also do you think it's weird, you can't say goodbyes separateöy to Maruki and Sumire. I was wondering the same thing. I've heard that you can only access the third semester by getting Maruki's confidant to the maximum rank. If that's the case, you might get the true ending from the original P5 instead if you fail to do that.

@@cheesytoenail8978 I actually haven't played vanilla P5, but from what I can tell that ending is the exact same. There was nothing new including Maruki or Yoshizawa or even mentioning them. Just the scene where they take Joker home in the bus.

Went through the enire game blind I dident spend time with Akechi at all and now I have the bad ending where I got shot and can’t be bothered to get other endings so kinda doing emotional damage control

Although I still got forever to figure this out I would like to know what should I do in this situation. My goal in this game is to get the original true ending then get the third semester true ending after that. Which way would be faster in your opinion? Should I start ranking up the characters required then create a second save file once I get the councillor to rank 8 that I go to once I complete the first save file or just focus on beating the game with the original ending then do a NG+ game where I skip all the dialogue I already read while mainly focusing on ranking the characters needed?
You've probably beaten it already but so long as you get Maruki to like... 10? I think? I think that unlocks the third
The question I was asking was to create save when I max rank maruki and do the vanilla ending on the first file or do a new game+ after getting the vanilla ending. I chose to do the second save file and then realised that I wasted my time because royals ending is just an enhanced version of vanillas ending.

It seems you missed Royal Bad Ending? The one when Phantom Thieves did not send the calling card to Maruki till deadline, in the end Maruki disappointed Joker still cant make decision, thus giving Joker a salvation by giving him a rest (sleeping) for eternal so Joker doesn't have to think everything, even Lavenza failed to reach him, forever.

and maybe they could've made akechi take sumire's place here, with a disguise or something going like "i told you I wouldn't let anyone decide my fate didn't I?" (although tbh the vagueness of it all already fits him perfectly)

Personally, I REALLY prefer the OG true ending to Royal’s. I get what they were going for with the Third Semester, but it essentially writes itself out of existence beyond the bittersweet ending with Maruki and Sumire. The OG ending was far more triumphant with the Phantom Thieves riding together as a nice sendoff and victory lap for spending over 100 hours to both take back their freedom from the wicked as well as reform society from the God of Control.
I'm so disappointed because Ren didn't saw Akechi, overall new true ending is best ending.

the animation for the true ending cutscene seems a bit more rushed in the new game. i understand they probably had less time to perfect everything than they had for the vanilla game but it doesn’t stop their faces from looking kinda wonky
My headcanon is that Joker finishes highschool at home, where there is only a year for him left, to then return to Tokyo where the PTs regroup as a regular group of friends. Joker eventually takes over LeBlanc when Sojiro goes into retirement together with his wife (insert your personal headcanon wife here).
Still, I very much hope there will be a P5R sequel. Not a spin off like Strikers, which didn't even take the Royal characters into account as it came earlier, a proper sequel. I think these characters deserve it, even for the standards of the Persona series, they are truly something special.

Yeah, it kinda reminds me of the Persona 4 Golden ending where you don’t defeat Izanami. You do all the right things and catch the bad guy but the fogs still not lifted. It’s very bittersweet but puts up the facade that everything is just right

The Erricane to unlock The Royal section of the game you have to get Dr Maruki up to rank 9 before November 18th. So to get the original true ending just simply play the game as the original and essentially just ignore Maruki
Mia James and kazumi, you have to get her maxed at 5 before 3rd semester as well

To me, the new "good" ending look more terrifying than the original "good" ending. The fact that everyone (except Joker) have forgotten everything of the "real" reality, meaning they will live with Maruki's illusion is creepy.
