There's also sadly a story telling mechanic in the will seed but was scraped, but some people found due to a bit of hacking and was left in the coding. It is essentially a way for the player to convey each time you get a will seed, you get to see the perspective of the palace holder and their desires getting distorted, and collecting all the will seeds, you get a scene where the moment when their palaces began to manifest and after that the Palace ruler feels like someone was going through their palace, they're slowly aware of your presence. The ones that are revealed in Kamoshida and Madarame, since those are the ones found in the code. Theirs even that early part in the P5R trailer was scrapped
@@abelg9053 Must have taken longer, but that sounds so cool! We get to see Maruki getting distorted desires with time but it would have been cool to see like Kamoshida on a podium getting a golden medal and seeing the power egtting to his head, or Madarame seeing Yosuke's mother seizure and take the "Sayuri". Where do you see this scrapped stuff?
@@youssefsaleh7186 That was one thing that was disappointing about the vanilla game. I always love when RPGs add background hints of future characters early on. P5 did it a lot with events, but not so much with the characters until maybe a week or two before you meet them in-game
Its funny how you notice them all as soon as you start your NG+. You even see Akechi and Sae walk by (in shibuya iirc) on the way to school some time before kamoshida palace.
The best thing about the vanilla version is the intro and the ending. I wish there was a option in Royale to pick which intro and ending version plays in a new game.
I'm used to playing the game Age of Empires II, which has team bonuses belonging to each civilization. As the name suggests, the bonuses apply to all members of the starting team (but not any players you ally with later). Persona Traits are essentially the same kind of thing, and allow for similar strategic choosing of team members. It's a very good addition.
Any and all money is worth it for this game, even if you’ve played the content in the vanilla version and just want the third semester’s story content. It’s just that good.
Isn’t 3rd semester in of itself almost 20 hours at LEAST of extra playtime? There’s games of $60 that have less playtime than that (good games I might add). Worth it, absolutely.
In the vanilla version, Makoto texts you to go for a movie date during 7/30, if you accept there's a short funny cutscene where she's waiting for you outside the theater. But in Royal, Makoto only sends you a message the 28/7 but you can only see that text if you reject Ryuji's offer to spend the day in Leblanc since he will ask you the day before to hang out during the 28th. If you decide to go with Makoto during the evening, the cutscene where she is waiting for you is completely skipped and you will be teleported directly into the movie theater with her.
I bought p5r when it was on sale for 55% off. Best purchase I've made in awhile. I already had p5 for free with the ps plus collection on ps5 so I got a taste for the game and decided to upgrade. I recommend everyone else to get royal if they can. Lots of quality of life changes. Especially with the changes to guns.
more notably, when maxing out technical, it acts as an alternate weakness that ALWAYS downs the foe, making the endgame enemies without actual weaknesses easier to hold up/recruit (assuming royal didnt downgrade the downed percent of technical just to restore it through the new upgrade, as ive only played royal)
@@loganbigmo I honestly forgot the darts and billards increase baton pass and technical damage, until I just saw this video now 💀I never did the rest of the party members to increase it, which could explain why my baton passes and tech damage did not as much as I wanted it to 😭
5:55 False, you need to get him to rank 9 not 8, once you get him to 9 you basically maxed him out. i think you're confusing maruki with akechi cuz you only need to get akechi to rank 8
I think that everyone should play Royal, because it goes on sale a LOT, plus with how long the game is, it’d make more sense to simply save up and play Royal. Also, even if you for SOME reason hate Royal stuff, for the most part you can just ignore the Royal stuff like Maruki and Kasumi.
That’s actually true yeah, if you just want your normal usual P5 experience but updated, then go right ahead! No one is forcing anyone to do any of it after all lol
Another difference between vanilla and Royal is the VA for Tae Takemi is not the same. Not sure why it was changed but I really liked the Voice for the vanilla version. Royals VA wasn’t bad but after 6 playthroughs on the vanilla it definitely felt weird.
Persona 5 and NEO The World Ends With You has some of the best voice acting I've heard in video games. The VAs are very expressive and give their all into their roles.
Agreed, The voice acting was amazing, But Disco Elysium: Final Cut is honestly the best voice acting in any game I've played by ALOT. Masterpiece, Just like Persona 5.
i VERY MUCH appreciate the first 3 minutes of differentiating between the titles. I was avoiding persona 5 strikers because I had zero clue about it and thought it was rehashing the game I already played. Now that I know it happens after the events of 5, I may get it and actually play it.
Thank you for this series! I beat Vanilla a few months ago and own Royal but haven't had the chance to pick it up yet, but hearing all these changes makes me giddy to start!!
If you're going to play Strikers after Royal and not play the Vanilla game, keep in mind that Strikers was in development before Royal, so it follows the plotline of the vanilla game. I.E. characters who appear specifically in Royal will not appear in Strikers.
It’s also good to keep in mind that Royal started development rather soon after Strikers, so they decided to cross reference the storylines to make sure that Royal would still make sense if you followed up with Strikers. Some confusing moments slipped, that’s true, but there’s nothing even remotely major that contradicts Royal in Strikers, you’re literally just missing the main characters of 3rd semester. I think they knew that Strikers was gonna come out later than Royal, despite starting development earlier.
I've played the vanilla version on ps3 way back when it first came out, and I enjoyed it But with the announcement of a PC release, I am definitely looking at getting Royal. Even at full price. I haven't played the game fully through since that first time, so it'll be fun to see all the changes and get to re-experience stuff with a fresh coat of paint
I would like to add the fact that the ps3 version has a surprisingly large amount if mods for it, which in my eyes make it the best version of vanilla p5 (at least when emulated using rpcs3). They've modded in new outfits (including the p5r dlc outfits), new battle music, "new" protagonists like p3mc and p3p's femc, the p3 and p4 protagonist boss fights from royals dlc and added some of royals improvements like 60fps, 4k resolution and the improved bust-ups.
I was tempted to play new game plus and get all the trophies in the OG but after watching this I’m heading straight to royal! My brother is a fan of the games so we already have both
Royal was really good but it still wasn't perfect. Kasumi was admittedly pretty tacked on and the third arc was a little too short with the big twist they were living in a different reality not really being explored just like shooed away after a handful of (unvoiced) cutscenes. Plus the final boss was interesting but the final form was a glorified cutscene as well. I felt we easily could've had one more palace (Sumire's) before the final one given a lot of the dates in the third arc you don't even get to play. Those gripes aside it was still an excellent game overall with a bunch of added scenes to freshen up the main game, I was surprised how much they added tbh, with a cool new area and Mementos was actually sort of fun to explore. The Will Seeds made one shotting Kamoshida's Palace so much easier and made exploring Palaces a bit more interesting.
I've played Strikers first Because I saw it on PS Plus and said "Fine, I'll do it" and after the first Chapter I got hooked. Haven't played Royal or Vanilla yet but I gotta say. Strikers didn't spoil much about the Main Game, and I easily got attached to every character. Glad to see that I'm not the only one who says that Haru is Waifu Material.
you really should bite the bullet and get royal, the transition is strange between the two games but if you like the characters you absolutely need to play it
@@samuelniemeyer589 to be fair the reveals aren’t very unexpected. The only one I didn’t predict was Ryuji because I thought he was a random side character
Oh damn I had a feeling Maruki’s confidant was on a timer, now I know for sure I need to work on it. I’m in the middle of summer break currently however, so it’s on hold.
Fair warning, as I say in the pinned comment, You have to get Maruki to rank 9 manually and 10 happens automatically (In the video I incorrectly said you have to get him to Rank 8 and 9&10 happen automatically)
The ¥50,000 might seem like an underwhelming bonus, but I like it. It's enough to boost your early game and doesn't unbalance the game as a whole. Plus if you want an early game boon just summon a high level dlc persona you get for free.
As a PROUD fan who's played BOTH the Vanilla Persona 5 AND Persona 5 Royal, I'm just glad there's a video showing ALL of the minute to major changes they've made between each versions of the game!
Started playing PS5R when it was released on XBOX Game Pass. Amazing to see how much of what feel like standard (but still very awesome and unique) mechanics wouldn't have been in the orginal. Thanks for the video, fam.
Thanks for this video! I purchased Vanilla back in 2018 but only got to finish the game this year. I think at the time I got the OG game, Royal wasn't released yet. So, had I known that I would not have beaten the game until this year and that we were going to get an enhanced version, I think I would have waited to get Royal instead of the Vanilla game. But now that I've beaten the base game I don't think I need to get Royal. I'm fine with the game I already had.
within the first 3 and a half min of the video u answered all my questions. thanks for that efficiency. ive been seeing this franchise around a lot and been wondering to try it out. for the longest time i was confused where to begin with so many 'persona 5's but u basically set it straight: persona 5 royal first, then persona 5 striker. and the fact that they're both fully fledged games, starting with turn based rpg and moving to action rpg seems like the perfect crescendo of interactivity that i was hoping to have next to each other. once again, thanks. u are good at ur work. i appreciate u.
i finally got p5r after so long and i haven't vanilla in a couple years so when i finally realized that morgana doesnt ask me to sleep that much i was so happy
Ugh, I just started playing regular P5 when this game out. I thought this just added a new character not all these things. I guess I'll just play through the normal version, buy royal, then play royal many years from now when I forgot what happened in P5 normal so it'll be a bit of a surprise haha
Plot twits: you wont forget... P5 have that kind of story that will stay with you forever. :) Yeah, its that great. EDIT: Another thing, you arent playng the inferior version, youre playng the version that matters, the gameplay changes on royal are great, also the new story arc. But that sotry arc arent on the same level of the original, even though its pretty great, imho.
@@evomichel9900 I have to disagree, the new ending and palace and everything about the third semester is a much more satisfying conclusion for the phantom thieves than how the at the time final boss was dealt with in the original, and a hell of a lot more thought provoking and emotional for sure too, not really sure how anyone would disagree with that if I’m being honest but it is what it is I guess, not to mention the new tracks that we got out of that whole last segment of the game are just god tier…
@@SSlash And I disagree. I find the final ending of the OG to be considerably better with Joker rejecting how he was at the start running away with his new friends, and finally taking off his glasses signifying him coming into himself.
I'm actually glad I played the original first and I would encourage new players to play the original as well. More challenging and better original ending. Royal was fun for a follow up playthrough but I'm glad it wasn't my original experience.
Are you mad? The ending in P5 sucked very hard and Royal absolutely fixes this. In fact Strikers did the end of P5 basically better than P5 did. The original P5 never knew what it wanted to be out and that is its biggest failure. And its "challenge" came from poor gameplay design.
Currently playing the original, just finished the first Palace. I'm definitely considering this version after maybe playing Strikers as it's a followup to the original game.
From someone who played vanilla first, royal added some little things that improve your experience so much, like the will seeds that restore sp, man when I went through shido palace I didn't have sp for akechi (first time doing it and trying in one day), also an encounter in kamoshida's palace was removed, where there were 4 succubus using marin karin and I died a lot of times because they would spam it and take joker or ryuji, morgana not telling you to sleep so often was gamechanging for me because I literally wanted to punch the cat so many times for not letting me go( even when I didn't go to the metaverse), this gave me much more time to improve, I agree that royal makes things easier, but I think it is consequence of how many new tools you have, and they only make the experience more enjoyable.
I beat the original game twice when it game out. Currently playing Royal for the first time & MAN there’s a bunch of stuff they changed. Loving it so far.
The will seeds/crystals actually are based off of the eight deadly sins with the additional one being vanity which literature most often combines with pride thus resulting in the seven deadly sins. Sloth which would be one of the seven deadly sins is not included in the will seeds, but vanity is.
If nothing else, PLEASE use the billiards table to level up your technical rank asap. It’ll eventually make you guarantee a down if you hit a technical, which becomes super important for the vanilla final and especially the royal final palace as technicals are often the only way to down enemies and gain them as your persona.
Even though I’ve played both Persona 5 Vanilla and Persona 5 Royal I entirely recommend getting Persona 5 Royal even though it can be much more expensive! The changes made are very significant and the extra story and new characters are a great addition!
I am the only one who always waits for the "special versions" of Persona games? like if there's ever a Persona 6, I would just wait for the enhanced version of it like P4 Golden or P5 Royal because playing the vanilla version would feel incomplete.
(Semi- spoilers) Yesterday I beat persona 4 golden, I loved the game and teared up at the end, that being said Royal is still my favorite single player game experience I've had yet, I was one of the few Akechi fans in the original because of the voice acting, in Royal I had both Akechi and Sumi on my team at all times because it felt correct to me and it made the finale so much better in my opinion. The ending while it felt a tad bit off made me actually cry, no joke! P.S. Savage shadows were in the original, not disaster shadows those were Royal but savage were in the original
I hated akechi in vanilla. He felt superficial and somewhat shallow. But royal changed my views of him entirely and I really do like him now. Oh and the truth about him in the end of royal made me cry. I guess it didn't really sink in what happened to him in vanilla or I just didn't care enough to feel anything for him then.
@redx Vanilla P5 was already a complete game, though. Atlus simply took an already amazing game and gave us more to experience, which as I've stated previously, seemed to work out pretty well since Royal has received a ton of praise.
@redx if Vanilla P5 was a soul-less, empty, poorly designed husk of a game, then I would absolutely say Royal was a cash grab. But Vanilla already had a great story, great characters, great gameplay, and over 100 hours of content. Royal was just a little something extra. This is partly the reason why games like Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were such colossal failures, because vanilla Sun and Moon were so barebones compared to what fans expect from the series. They were such big insults to the Pokémon franchise that Ultra Sun and Moon actually did feel like they were reselling us the same game but actually finished.
I liked the scenes without voice acting, because my friends and I playing together would make up funny voices for them. Ryuji was from the Bronx, akechi was Russian, except when in shadowy evil guy outfit he was batman. Haru was toad from Mario. That will be missing from our royal play through with the extra voices.
There's a setting in the options menu of the game to turn off the voices and have the game voiceless if you want, you can toggle it whenever you want as well. The setting is called "Dialogue Voices"
I bought Persona5 Strikers first because it was in sale, I didn't know anything about Persona at all, I just saw a short let's play that I left in the middle of Madarame palace because I wanted to try it by myself. When I bought P5 strikers, I thought it was a remake of P5 Royal, I was so happy because I finally could play the game I wanted to play for 2 years, then I realized that the game wasn't the same has the let's play I saw, then I searched and it was a sequel, I was so sad at that point (I tried to erase all the boys and girls I saw in the beginning of strikers of my mind after that). I waited until last Christmas, my dad made me choose a game I wanted and I said to him "Persona 5 royal". It's been 2 months now playing non stop, I really liked it. I'm going to try all the other Persona games if I can! I just need to finish Persona5 royal and strikers, lol.
Holy shit. I’m currently playing vanilla version of P5 and I fell in love with this game! Seeing all these features added in the Royal version makes me a little upset because the experience of the game would have been much more enjoyable. This cat cannot shut up about going to bed gah Anyway, great video, keep it up man 👍

You see takemi walking in the backstreets on your way to sakura’s house
You can see multiple future characters Joker meets in the background such as you can see Haru when you are walking to school
Another one I remember
You see Maruki walking down the stairs after you take down Kamoshida
(Which Maruki actually mentions later on)
The best thing about the vanilla version is the intro and the ending. I wish there was a option in Royale to pick which intro and ending version plays in a new game.
Damn Persona traits seemed so natural and logic that i forgot it wasnt in the original game
I can't find the cutscene of it on YT =((
From what I remember, this is the movie date where she invites you to watch a Yakuza movie right?
I bought p5r when it was on sale for 55% off. Best purchase I've made in awhile. I already had p5 for free with the ps plus collection on ps5 so I got a taste for the game and decided to upgrade. I recommend everyone else to get royal if they can. Lots of quality of life changes. Especially with the changes to guns.
What's changed with the guns?
@@Aigis31 The ammo isn't limited to one palace infiltration anymore, so every time you start a fight with the full magazine for all characters.
Imma buy it too
I played the game twice and I never knew that you could increase party members’ technical damage.
more notably, when maxing out technical, it acts as an alternate weakness that ALWAYS downs the foe, making the endgame enemies without actual weaknesses easier to hold up/recruit (assuming royal didnt downgrade the downed percent of technical just to restore it through the new upgrade, as ive only played royal)
So you played the game twice yet never bothered doing billiards? :P
This is correct, I apologize for the error.
I might be screwed. I only have him at rank 6 and it's November 6.
@@Jimmeeehhh You have 11 days left, thats plenty of time to get him to rank 9.
@@jackjohnson8305 Alright. Made a Councillor Persona, just in case.

Correction on Maruki’s, manually go to Rank 9, automatically go to Rank 10.
@@SSlash tho you still should tbh 👀
@@pentagonyx and I definitely agree they should but for whatever reason some people just don’t like the new stuff 😔✊
Yea I got it a few days ago since the deluxe edition was on sale for 20 bucks
I really don’t like what they did with Akechi. His arc was great as it was imo, it feels to fanservice-y in p5r
I like that merciless mode actually gives you additional money & experience(1.2 as a number figure)
Another difference between vanilla and Royal is the VA for Tae Takemi is not the same. Not sure why it was changed but I really liked the Voice for the vanilla version. Royals VA wasn’t bad but after 6 playthroughs on the vanilla it definitely felt weird.
she sounds like an milf in the old one and sounds like a big titty goth gf in the new one. new one by far is better
The graphics have been touched up pretty nicely it’s clearly less grainy and jagged
I love the voice acting in this game. Confidently can say it’s the best voice acting in any video game that I’ve played!
God Of War: Ragnarok: Is this a joke to you?
Persona 5 and NEO The World Ends With You has some of the best voice acting I've heard in video games. The VAs are very expressive and give their all into their roles.
Agreed, The voice acting was amazing, But Disco Elysium: Final Cut is honestly the best voice acting in any game I've played by ALOT. Masterpiece, Just like Persona 5.
One way to look at P5 and P5R to understand it more is to see it as similar Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
i VERY MUCH appreciate the first 3 minutes of differentiating between the titles. I was avoiding persona 5 strikers because I had zero clue about it and thought it was rehashing the game I already played. Now that I know it happens after the events of 5, I may get it and actually play it.
The new characters they added in Strikers are actually REALLY good.

Thank you for this series! I beat Vanilla a few months ago and own Royal but haven't had the chance to pick it up yet, but hearing all these changes makes me giddy to start!!
I only played royal but I appreciate the vid because it clued me in to what was improved. Thanks!
Improved was only gameplay, story was completely ruined.
I recently got a used PS4 and I just started Persona 5 Royal. I have already completed 3 FES, 4 Golden, and TMS#FE En. Thanks for the helpful video!
Thank you you literally answered my question within the first 4 min now I’ll play and figure out the rest lol
@@hyperstargaming6150then they release persona 5 q2 and release those said characters as dlc 😂😂😂.
I've played the vanilla version on ps3 way back when it first came out, and I enjoyed it
But with the announcement of a PC release, I am definitely looking at getting Royal. Even at full price. I haven't played the game fully through since that first time, so it'll be fun to see all the changes and get to re-experience stuff with a fresh coat of paint
Thanks for the video. Just looking into Persona 5 for the first time, and you clarified my confusion in the first few minutes!
I keep forgetting there’s a PS3 Persona 5 lol
60fps isn't a royal improvement because they didn't bother making 60fps available in Royal.
Got the info i needed by 3:00, Thank you. with no spoilers ill watch the rest, well done.
Thank you, Persona 5 royal was just announced for switch and I didn’t know the difference between Royal and Vanilla
Tfw when they didn't fixed the space maze pain
Was there a problem with it? I played it on vanilla just a few months ago and thought it was fine albeit annoying
@@umbrella3096 exactly, there was too little change to it compared how much was changed for the better in other areas lol

I've played Strikers first Because I saw it on PS Plus and said "Fine, I'll do it" and after the first Chapter I got hooked. Haven't played Royal or Vanilla yet but I gotta say. Watching this in November of 2022 & it feels like a fever dream that it’s on all platforms
Really hope this series goes on. As someone who just recently finished persona 5 vanilla after owning it for 7 years, I truly appreciate this video 🙏
So glad I checked this video, I didn't know I had to raise up Maruki's confidant to access the new palace
Yeah, it's the only missable palace in the game
Amzing one. This is probably my 5th video trying to see what the heck is P5 versions, got my answer in 1st 5 minutes

We need Persona 6 with Nanako as MC
It might be they are working on one that's a female main character.

After replaying vanilla 5 times and finally getting Royal I can say without a doubt that they improved everything in such a perfect way
Visually, P5 is a beautiful game. I loved the art style and animations.

I'm gonna get p5s soon, after I finish the royale story, I am so exited, I'm such a sucker for warriors games!
within the first 3 and a half min of the video u answered all my questions. thanks for that efficiency. ive been seeing this franchise around a lot and been wondering to try it out. for the longest time i was confused where to begin with so many 'persona 5's but u basically set it straight: persona 5 royal first, then persona 5 striker. and the fact that they're both fully fledged games, starting with turn based rpg and moving to action rpg seems like the perfect crescendo of interactivity that i was hoping to have next to each other. once again, thanks. u are good at ur work. i appreciate u.
Fantastic video, very interesting, well voiced and edited, you got me hyped to watch the whole series of---- oh. There never were any more videos. 😢
They will come one day. I have a few other things I want to finish first. Admittedly shouldn't have started this as early as I did
i finally got p5r after so long and i haven't vanilla in a couple years so when i finally realized that morgana doesnt ask me to sleep that much i was so happy
Holy freck that's a lot of changes
@@txgoldrushNO! It's you who is mad, persona 5 royal is a peace if shit nothing more, also it's not canon.

Currently playing the original, just finished the first Palace. I'm definitely considering this version after maybe playing Strikers as it's a followup to the original game.
Royal is now the canon version of P5, so Strikers is a follow up to it. Just because Kasumi isn’t in Strikers doesn’t mean Royal isn’t canon.
Thanks for the straight forward and clear video!
I beat the original game twice when it game out. Currently playing Royal for the first time & MAN there’s a bunch of stuff they changed. Loving it so far.
Ah, the intro is so nice, we shall await patiently for the next part
I am really loving this series so far, hopefully episode 2 comes out soon.
Really grateful for Royal coming out during le pandemic.
If there wasn't this "extra story" and what is even worse after final boss, than yeah would be a great game.
I am the only one who always waits for the "special versions" of Persona games? like if there's ever a Persona 6, I would just wait for the enhanced version of it like P4 Golden or P5 Royal because playing the vanilla version would feel incomplete.
It's finally coming to the Switch! It's time
(Semi- spoilers)
Yesterday I beat persona 4 golden, I loved the game and teared up at the end, that being said Royal is still my favorite single player game experience I've had yet, I was one of the few Akechi fans in the original because of the voice acting, in Royal I had both Akechi and Sumi on my team at all times because it felt correct to me and it made the finale so much better in my opinion. The ending while it felt a tad bit off made me actually cry, no joke!
P.S. Savage shadows were in the original, not disaster shadows those were Royal but savage were in the original
Persona 4 was my first persona game so I hold it as my fav but I never finished p4g so I tried playing but my computer is ass and can’t handle it :(
I hated akechi in vanilla. He felt superficial and somewhat shallow. But royal changed my views of him entirely and I really do like him now. Oh and the truth about him in the end of royal made me cry. I guess it didn't really sink in what happened to him in vanilla or I just didn't care enough to feel anything for him then.
Finaly some plain clear explination, Thanks good sir.
Thanks for this video! Might buy it after finished the vanilla version soon…
show this to rockstar so they know what a remaster looks like
@redx which worked out pretty damn well. Vanilla Persona 5 was so damn good that I totally didn't mind paying full price for Royal.
@redx Okay I admit I did word that rather poorly, but ignoring that, my other points still stand.
@@Screenments oh shit really? Dope.
The price may be a little high, but… It’s REALLY, REALLY worth it.
