I like how they didn't try to reinvent the wheel. They retained a lot of parts of the AR that are trouble-free, then upgraded the others. Looks to be the best AR upgrade in the last 50 years, and should be a big hit. Love yah Sootch, been with you from the beginning.
Cool rifle! As much as I love Eugene Stoner's design, l've always felt the oversized bolt & recoil buffer/tube/spring setup is a little wonky. Apparently others agree because manufacturers keep modifying the design to downsize the bolt & eliminate the buffer tube. Fascinating to see the engineering behind these firearms, that's why I always love your videos. I think your style & presentation makes viewers much more interested in firearms broadly, as opposed to simply watching an "entertaining" TH-cam channel. You're one of my favorite teachers, Sootch! Great work! Can't wait until the next video. God bless! 🇺🇸
I dig it, seems sturdy, light, and capable. With it running ar15 parts you can potential keep it running in a unfortunate environment. The folding stock not interfering with the buffer function is huge for me. It's honestly why i love aks so much and the easy disassembly. I'm gonna keep a eye on this rifle as a potential shtf patrol rifle.
I remember your review of a rifle that had a gas block built into the barrel, bomb proof for shtf, what happened to them? (HDM I think) Glad to see the new tech for the gas block being used. Nice rifle I like the dust cover bolt drop.
That's basically what it is, in a roundabout way. Since the muzzle device is part of the barrel, it's counted towards the overall barrel length, so it's legally 16 inches but is noticeably shorter than other factory AR barrels. Just like a pinned and welded 14.5.
Good video had to see the difference from what I do have to the reality of having that, but I saw how the spring goes through to the buttock similar way, but I have a piston driven AR in it. It runs differently from the front just a little side.
I have a FM-15 gen 2 upper, which has a firing pin spring, and the “dumbbell” extractor pin. It looks like they omitted those for the bolts on this rifle. The dumbbell pin has been a controversial part for Foxtrot Mike, showing part breakage after 1000 rounds or so (caveat, the pin breaking doesn’t take the rifle out of operation).
Thats a great presentation. With all the variants of the AR this proves the sky is the limit. For me I prefer heavier profile barrel. Good presentation
He'll occasionally criticize a historic / out of production gun, but never a current one. Since the people who know all about a product also have a financial incentive to tell you *everything* positive about it, the reviewer's role is not to find new positives about the product (which is almost impossible), but to think critically and verify whether the manufacturer's / retailer's claims are true. It annoys me how commenters gush over these uncritical-cheerleading "reviews".
Guys giving you grief on terminology, but you are not wrong. At about the 12th pic rail, there is a break. Forend bolted on. The upper is in fact not monolithic. Btw, every barrel is, so that point is invalid. There is nothing new whatsoever on this rifle. Just cool marketing. Which is useless in a gunfight...
I'd buy it id it had a traditional carbine ext so I can run a suppressed carrier. It's not going to be easy to tune even with the suppressor spring. The heat the threads on the upper, not the barrel to thermally-fit the barrel.
I'm considering buying the pistol. I really wish they would have put a lighter trigger in it though. I hate buying a gun and immediately needing to start replacing parts and spending more money on it. It is for that reason that I really want to order a custom Blackout Defense, but that is over double the price so it's not really in the same category. I am not the type of person to want to own one of everything. I just want to have the best I can reasonably afford. Even though I can afford the Blackout it is still hard to put down well over $2k for a gun I will only shoot once or twice a month.
I like everything except the integrated muzzle device as I already have, and like, an AR pistol built with a FM upper. I have a suppressor but it isn't Dead Air compatible and so I wouldn't be able to suppress that rifle. Too bad.
This seems to simply the design. But simplicity shouldn't cost more. Time will tell as the newness wears off. I can see this down around the 600 dollar mark.
I think my only concern about this is the ejection pattern being weak right off the bat and as the gun wears id be unsurprised to see malfunctions from poor ejection
Maaaaan.... my only gripe is the trigger pull weight.. if it would have been like 3-3.5 lbs.. it probably be a go-to at its $1100 price point.. still pretty cool though..
@justinlavigne2573 I know that.. I was just saying if it was already a 3-3.5 pound trigger.. you wouldn't have to do anything to it except for an optic.. there's other rifles out there at this price point that do it..
id be curious to know the actual rifled barrel length. it seems like with the integral muzzle device they would be able to either make it shorter or longer than 16" like is it 16" including the "muzzle device" which would mean a shorter rifled barrel length, but it could still be longer than say 13.9" or 14.5" like idk 15"...
So they call it the monolith, but it isn’t a monolithic upper? Idk it just seems like its trying to be the AR version of a SCAR but has fewer of the SCAR advantages
So do you have to take it to a gunsmith to replace the pressed in barrel? Seems kind of like a step back with s pressed in barrel, unless i misunderstood. More than possible.
**You kept mentioning how lightweight it is but you never told us it's weight? **Personally I'd like a 20-inch barrel for 223 wyld, I want Superior ballistic performance, and I want that muzzle blast 4" farther from my face. **I would say the interchangeability of the basic AR platform is one of its main attractions, although the Hydra system with the interchangeable magazine Wells, makes it even more desirable. **Especially if somebody would design new magazine and and magazine well, to bring the capacity up (double stack) on the 500 Beowulf, 450 Bushmaster and others like it to at least a solid 25 rounds, without being ridiculously long. **I also want a blunderbuss type muzzle device that directs the muzzle blast forward rather than out the sides. **Also a reliability comparison between that and the standard AR, in field conditions would be awesome.
Great review. But after 15 years or so, the AR concept is like watching old westerns for the 100th time to me. Beyond pissing away money on uppers, lowers, triggers, and who knows what' all, I am done with the .223. It has cost me way too much money down the rabbit hole. Imho 223 at about age 65 does not hold up to cartages much older. Not to mention cartridges the past 20 years. Ash heap of history. I admit, I got all caught up in it. And I am poorer for my foolish mistakes.
Looks like a ripoff of the PSA JAKL. Although PSA won’t like this at all when they find out the weight is so much better with this model. I’m a UGG BOOT fan boy so I will add this to the arsenal for sure the weight is the o my reason it’s attractive to me over my JAKL. I do appreciate companies keeping the ACR alive. I wish someone would just purchase the ACR brand and do what we all want to be done. BRING BACK THE ACR! For $1500 with fixes to all the issues the ACR will takeover the market and make FN lower the price of the SCAR.
This is the first non-AR 556 rifle I've seen that comes in a decent light weight. That really gets my attention.
I love seeing companies push the envelope on firearm technology while keeping functionality in mind.

Love the folding stock in particular. Under 6 pounds with all those features, impressive.
It's an interesting take on design. I hope they're robust and reliable. I am picking up the carmel sometime soon. Might have to compare them myself.😅
Love the review videos. I've watched many of your videos. Appreciate all the work you do to help inform people

Even Stoner put the buffer springs inside the upper when he designed the AR18
Still, that gaping hole it leaves in the ejection port is worrying. Its big enough for pebbles to go right in 😅
Thank you for all you do and taking the time to make this video
Keep up the good work brother Semper fidelis.
“You don’t need a SCAR. We have SCAR at home.”
I thought that was the psa jakl
People who use the term "at home" are Twinkie bus riders.
The SCAR is made here so "At Home" doesn't apply.
An innovative design!
Sootch A Roni the gun Lovers Treat !
The look reminds me of the CZ Bren--quite good looking.
Interesting, would like to see a "one year follow up" video on this.
Thanks for sharing!
I am enjoying seeing more AR reviews
When Sootch has a new vídeo, i come very fast to give my like, cheers from Brazil. I hope that the Senate approves the national reciprocity act.

Idk why they didn't do a 14.5 since the muzzle is part of the barrel. That would be sweet
Over all length with the keymo is 16.1
That's basically what it is, in a roundabout way. Since the muzzle device is part of the barrel, it's counted towards the overall barrel length, so it's legally 16 inches but is noticeably shorter than other factory AR barrels. Just like a pinned and welded 14.5.
I wonder if it's to keep the overall length in the ATF's rifle definition.
Love the smell of gunpowder in the morning, good job.
Must be so great to live in a free state.
Great video nice rifle thanks for sharing sootch00
Very nice design 👍 ❤
Nice looking rifle, although it bears some resemblance to the PSA JAKL.
Hello from South Africa great video as always please could you do a review on Taurus T4
Good video had to see the difference from what I do have to the reality of having that, but I saw how the spring goes through to the buttock similar way, but I have a piston driven AR in it. It runs differently from the front just a little side.

Formidabile 😊
Looks like a Shooting Dynamics selector. Have one and it’s nice.
I wanted to like the PSA Jakl and the IWI Carmel but both are so heavy. This is just the right weight.
This dude has never given a bad review. Take that for what it’s worth. Ole Shilly McShiller
He'll occasionally criticize a historic / out of production gun, but never a current one. It's not a review it's an overview
@@Mikey-M4v7 According to the video title it IS a review.
Its perfect!!!
Is the bolt AR compatible?
Beyond that, I think making the muzzle device part of the barrel is a mistake.
It’s called the Monolith, yet its upper receiver and barrel shroud are two separate piece
Barrel is monolithic
There is no barrel shroud on this rifle genius
.
@ so I guess you just hold onto the barrel when you shoot it ? Fucking moron
Wow
I want one for sure.
Awesome! How much does it cost?
He said it in the video. Approximately 1200
Cool
Wow very interesting i dig it 👌
I'd buy it id it had a traditional carbine ext so I can run a suppressed carrier. It's not going to be easy to tune even with the suppressor spring. The heat the threads on the upper, not the barrel to thermally-fit the barrel.
Looks like re-assembly could potentially be a little frustrating.

Don't need a rear diopter on a standard red dot, because you aren't focusing the reticle to your eye
Nice !! I wonder if it will be available in 300 blackout??
I really hope these come in 308..
nice one ...

You should review the Wise Arms AR15
So they call it the monolith, but it isn’t a monolithic upper? Idk it just seems like its trying to be the AR version of a SCAR but has fewer of the SCAR advantages
Do you have a blue light in the background to create a lighting condition as I’m seeing it all over the gun and the optics
I want one
What you bought the gun could you swap out the barrel system for something else or do you have to stay with the monolithic one piece barrel system?
So do you have to take it to a gunsmith to replace the pressed in barrel? Seems kind of like a step back with s pressed in barrel, unless i misunderstood. More than possible.
It looks like it sends lead and brass down range. Is it a bit over-gassed?
If they come out with something instead of 5.56/233 I’m in
Is global ordnance the manufacturer or the distributor?
💪
🙏
It’s a shame it’s DI, I guess I’ll just get the Jakl.
Bu why didn't they make the handguard and receiver monolithic? Seems like a strange thing not to do.
It's the Monolith, not monolithic 😅

5lb 14oz
@sjoracer2934 thank you! That is really lightweight?
**If you put a Red Dot on that, and a light and it still be sub 7 lb.
What is the overall length with the stock fold it?
Damn I thought it looked like a fm upper
Free ammo for a vid. what a life
Can't change barrel at home. One type of suppressor

Is it a mid length gas system or carbine length? I missed it if it was in there.
Mid length

Will it accept 5.56?
Is this a really good and light weight competitor to the jakl?
😊
Kel-tec had this platforn figured out at just over 5 pounds 25 years ago? 😂😂😂 For about $500 😂😂😂
is it me, or that thing way over gassed? wonder what would happen if a can was put on there.
I use Huxwrx suppressors 🤨
Other options and 1/2 28 version coming according to Global Ordnance
@Pootydanglesore is foxtrot mike trash? Atlantic has a bunch of their stuff on the site.
@@Pootydanglesore damn thats a shame. Seems like a cool design and a nice ar alternative.

Isn't this still considered a DI gun?
Come to me, you will gain what you deserve. Your wish will come true. We are the monolith.
Seems expensive.
Not bad at $1300, but propriety barrel? Could do more with caliber swaps. 300, 6.5G, 6arc…
Not a fan of proprietary barrel either
Yeah anything remotely novel seems to be go north of $2k real fast.
