I've just done mine. I don't have a filter socket, but do have a chain wrench. Unfortunately Yamaha has put a cross member just over the filter, which meant that I had to resort to using the thuggish sticking screwdrivers through method. The K&N filter I've put on has a nut to make it's removal easier than the OEM. As for the drain nut, it also didn't have a copper washer on, just an ordinary one, it seemed in good order so I just replaced it as it was. Good video.

@@TheOldMechanic hey 👋 hope all is good. I’ve done myne today the oil change and the filter. I have a 1991 Vmax and it has a cartridge filter, but long story short I think I put too much oil on the window is all full ? Is there anyway I can take some oil out?

Normaly before you remove the drain plug you remove the oil fill cap according to the manual :). Also it recommends to change the copper washer of the drain plug if it existed if not ofcourse put one there. Very nice vid and after watching i got the confidence to do this myself.

You do remove the filler cap first for flow of the oil, plus if you drop the oil and can't get the filler cap off your fucked applies for all vehicles
