Glad to see that the Matriarch has not yet revealed all its secrets. Recently I got a little tired of its sound a little too "in-between" for my taste and found myself dragged more toward the korg type of sounds, but it's always a pleasure to hear fresh ideas. It's like revisiting an old friend (11:04)
Every once in a while I think I’ve mastered the matriarch…then I find something new to explore and realize I’ve still got a lot to learn about this wonderful instrument. Thanks for your comments.
Awesome. After so much trial-and-error-FM with my DX-7 way back when I finally got to learn some of the basics and a lot more about FM from your inspiring vid. Plus great patching ideas to boot. Looking forward to try all this on my Matriarch that's arriving next week, or maybe even on the Prophet 10?! Thank you. Keep on groovin'!
Glad to help. I've never owned a DX7...but do have a Roland D-50 and a Korg M1....those are NO fun to program. Digital FM can sure sound cool...but what a pain!
@@RobeMusic Seconded! What a joy to have these beasts with all those buttons… Looking forward to more Matriarch tutorials and hoping also to get some inspiration for Prophet 10 programming. Thank you so much for your great work!
Thanks. Usually I use the scope built into my DAW (studio one…which I switched to from PT..and the scope was one of the many reasons I finally switched). Sometimes I just use the scope in VCV rack. Some videos I’ve used s(m)exscope…all are software scopes…I don’t have a reliable hardware scope.
Using just the Moog Matriarch what inputs can you put in the linear FM patch? From what I can tell there's two types of outputs audio outputs and controller outputs but I'm still uncertain to which one is which.
Yes, there are Audio INs and Outs and CV (Control Voltage) ins/outs....but it's all just electricity (basically) so you can patch pretty much anything into anything....you won't hurt anything (maybe your ears if its too loud) . Trick is learning what each input/output does that will give you a better understanding of what the result will be. the Manual is very good at explaining....but i think it's fun just experimenting and learning that way. as for Lin/Fm - common Modulation CV sources to patch would be an envelope out or an LFO. common Audio sources (audio or oscillator output for instance is in general just a wave at audio rate, i.e. a wave with high frequency...in layman's terms...a really fast LFO) would be another oscillator (either pitch tracked or static).
it’s been a while since I posted that video…so can’t remember the exact patch I did…but it is possible to add envelope to fm frequency…but I guess it does depend on carrier and modulation waves. if you have a time reference I can be more specific
0:39 outstanding patch! Very musical noise drone...and there comes its most excellent cousin at 1:28!
Thank you. I like that part too
@@RobeMusic Yeah that patch at 1:28 is fantastic. Beautiful.

Your Matriarch content is so good!
Theres always something to be inspired by.
Thank you very much!
You're getting some awesome tones out of this synth. I own one, but haven't ever given it the love it deserves. This is inspiring.
Thank you kindly!
Jeez the bell at 13:00 really turned out great. Very cool.
I am so glad to run into you.

Awesome patching! What a nice instrument :)
Thanks a lot!
This was REALLY usefull! thanks!!
Glad it was helpful!
Explanations are excellent 👌🏼 thank you
Very cool, thanks
Thank you for explanation!
Brilliant
Thank you very much!!
Again. A wonderful video that makes me fall in love with my Matriarch even more. One question: Which oscilloscope are you using for your videos?

You're amazing thank you
Thank you! Hope you come up with some cool sounds

Is there no way to add envelope to FM frequency?
