Excited for the return of the 3 month visa. Was going to book a month in Vietnam and 2 months in Malaysia. But really looking forward now to returning to Vietnam for 3 months. Bring it on.
I just returned from Vietnam for a Thailand visa run in Hoi An and Da Nang, and I liked it more than some Thailand cities. I like Chiang Mai, but due to the smoky season, I would have to go someplace else for the 3 months. The 90-day visa would be perfect for me as I plan to return one way back in September. I'm from the U.S. and heard contradictive news concerning a 1-year visa. I would much prefer to do that since I've been to Thailand many times. Thanks for the welcoming news!
Loved my time in Da Nang Nov '18 to March '19. Came back Nov. '19 to end of June 2020 (just before hard lock downs). Visited again the month of June 2022. I'm currently living in Thailand with the Retirement visa. Will definitely consider splitting my time between Da Nang and Hua Hin, Thailand if they bring back the 3 month tourist visa's. Love both, and they are very different.
Think that's a good plan. I like Thailand a lot-the charms of Asia but bit more modern and quieter than here makes it a great option. Da nang probably the best of Vietnam for living imo.
Good video . I can’t believe the bitterness of many expats living in vietnam who think its their own place and good enough for them to be there but not for anyone else. Groups are toxic about this, and i dont get it. To me, illegal workers and 3 month visas are two totally different issues. Eagerly awaiting outcome of visas and if it eventuates, how the 3 month multiple entry e visa will work. Will it be rid of the entry port, as people will come and go through different ports. Thanks for keeping us posted .
Thanks. The Facebook groups are particularly toxic in this regard so i tend to stay away from them. Vietnam would do well with a retirement/digital nomad visa. If they are worried about taxes they could charge more for the visa/monthly fee etc i'm sure it would work well. I think it's maybe a nationalism issue here as well though, the politics of the country are fairly unique in the world i suppose.
I'm planning on spending 6 months traveling South Asia next year so I am happy to see that I will be able to stay a little longer if I choose to. Probably Saigon again. Maybe a motorcycle trip?
My parent is from North Vietnam. Vietnam is setup as a tourist destination. Most ppl from 3rd world country want to immigrate to 1st world country. I feel your pain and hopefully, the viet gov’t can recognize situations such as yours. I liked and subscribed.
I really fancied living in DaNang permanently buying a condo etc but the visa situation is no good for me!! So Cambodia looks like my destination it seems much more visa/tourist friendly to me
Ye Cambodia easier for visas right now. I just viewed a new condo development here with a local friend who was thinking of buying one. Interestingly they are marketed as "condos for foreigners" although when i pointed out that foreigners' can't get any kind of 'permanent or suitable' long term residency here that would make a condo purchase seem appropriate, the sales guys didn't know what to say...
Thanks Chris, at 7:30 what you expect about rental demand out-stripping supply is what I was wondering about, and I would be curious how much you might expect rental prices to increase? I used to live in Penang a long time ago and currently giving it pretty serious consideration, and finding what appears to be better possible better long term rental rates (6mons and 1-year contracts), and if you've spent time in Penang or Malaysia I'd be interested in your take.
One of the biggest issues is people seem happy to pay close to what they'd pay in the west for some places here, but then get annoyed when the apartment leaks, has mold everywhere and zero soundproofing so you can hear your neighbours sneezing in every room! Landlords love the fresh off the boat foreigners, who are happy to pay in USD and don't know much about the real rental prices. I suppose you can't blame them as they're in it to make money. Agents will push prices as much as they can here, often with dual pricing for locals and foreign customers.
they'll be bringing the 3 month visas back - however they'll also implement a 3 month ban from the country once they expire - so I'd rather just stick with doing border runs
Interesting-i was wondering if they would do something like that to prevent people from staying indefinitely here on the tourist visas. We'll soon find out it seems
Ye it's a bit ridiculous. The papers just re-hash the same old news-22nd May was a date given but now they are set for another vote and discussion. It'll definitely happen, one day it will just suddenly become available..
@@expatnam The gov't will vote next month then God knows when it will be implemented. Hopefully it is not stupid enough to miss out on 2023 high season (November-December).
There's a shop in D1 HCM that sells them but apart from that they're pretty thin on the ground. I fitted a kit i ordered online to a hybrid bike i liked. I think that's one of the best options as you can find a bike that's comfortable and then fit a kit to that.
I'm visiting in May, but it seems I'll only be able to get a 30 day e-visa, and I'm staying like 37 days. I hope I'll be able to get an extension for that. If not I'll apply for a second e-visa and fly to Singapore and back and return on the second e-visa. I've been told these are legit options. Can anyone confirm?
I doubt it was to do with taxation as if you get rid of someone that is contributing say £1000 a month into the economy through spending it doesnt make sense either to eject him and lose £1000 or just to tax him say £200 leaving just £800 to spend, also one tourist possibly contributes more to the economy than maybe 4 or 5 nationals.
Hi Chris, Do you think they will actually bring back the 3 month tourist visas or is it another immigration head fake?? Also I’m hearing the Russian travellers have overtaken Danang, is it your observation?
I think they will definitely return in the coming months-and probably play out in a similar way to before the pandemic. Yes, there are a quite a few Russians in Da Nang with more coming all the time, still nothing like places like Phuket in Thailand though.
just got back from SGN a couple weeks ago.. loved the heat, took a couple days to get used to but then was fine... can't wait for the 3m visas to come back and will be moving back in Jan... let's hope they bring in a retirement visa or digital nomad visa at some point.. but let's face it, there were some people who were taking the piss with visas and in other ways.. and it certainly isn't as cheap as it was there!! The country is evolving so lets see what happens...
The future will be interesting, i expect things to pretty much settle where they were before the 3 month visas were stopped. One thing i have learnt living here so long is that change can be slow and often things revert back to the old ways it seems.
@@expatnam covid changed the world so I think the whole world is trying to get back to what it was... there was always gonna be an economic fallout, which we are going though now.. be almost back to normal all be it a bit more expensive now! but even that should calm down a bit in a yr or so...
Sorry but not all people renewing the 3 month visas were only tourists. I was there so I could be a father for my Vietnamese child and I have an income that’s portable and good finances so did not need to teach English or anything for a few extra dollars. Or was speaking English with my child illegal English teaching?
Are you able to get the spousal TRC through the mother, or maybe even through the child if that's an option. It's one of the things that annoys me here, even if you have a family or are a very long term resident through work there's still not much you can do in regards to more permanent residency/security etc.
@@expatnam No i tried all options and none of them are a go. Vietnam has the third lowest immigration rate in the world they don't want foreigners every really becoming a permanent part of their society hence the fact no one gets permanent residency, everything is just set up to be temporary. Investing to much of your live in a country with such policies is going to generally lead to a dead end eventually .
3 month non-renewable visas are best. To live in a place you do have to pay taxes just like a local. Spending in a place won't make up for paying actual income taxes especially in a poor country like Vietnam that needs substantial money to build the country.
Well done video mate. Those unfinished buildings are most likely owned by the Chinese as their economy as well as VN's economy has been a disaster. How long it will last is anyone's guess. But from the last crash, it would take at least 8 to 10 years before it rebounds. But this does not affect you and i and anyone who just visits and have a good time in VN🙏
Real estate is definitely a tricky one here. Just did a video touching on the subject. I think land is way overpriced here, especially as the ownership rights are a bit dubious. Doesn't seem to stop the demand though.
How do you feel about the upcoming visa changes in Vietnam?

Awesome!
I have a similar story😉
Another solid update Chris! Can't wait to get there in June.
We're working with a company in HMC to get our 2yr business visa and TRC. 🎉
Best of luck!

@@expatnam Hi Chris!!
Just wondering if you have ever been to Siem Reap in Cambodia ? If you have what do you think of the place?
This was a VERY GOOD video. The best I've seen about the subject. Good channel actually. Just straight info not fluff for the sake of eyeballs.
Thanks a lot. Try to keep it real, as they say..

The gov't is now "discussing" e-visa. A lot of people in Vietnam know it may take 3-12 months from May 2023 to get anything finalized and implemented.

Hi for my is ok whit tree months visa whas i phu quoc for tree months whit free visa to chilean citizen
can you tell me more about riding a bike? thanks i mean motor bike
Long term tourists are contributing to the economy. Living in hotels, eating out every day and frequenting bars.

Date not confirmed yet but going to the next stage in May so perhaps around that time.
