    This stuff works well. The shop I go to recommended I try this first over a catalytic converter replacement. After driving it for an extended period of time to get it down to 1/4 tank, 1 bottle did the trick. The engine light has stayed off for more than 6 months.

      Did the code clear? If it did, has it reappeared after 6 months?

      @@Uc3_duc3 That stuff actually has worked well. The code did clear and it has not reappeared in more than 6 months since I first used it. Now I recently did use a bottle as a preventative to just keep it clean. But so far since the first use, things are good.

    This worked for my 2016 Mustang. Was getting a jerking motion when accelerating. Went to mechanic and he was ready to tell me that I was having engine issues and would most likely have to get a new engine as my check engine light came on. I did some online research and Google told me that this could be the issue. Went to Auto Zone and bought some Cataclean. Got my tank down to a quarter, add the Cataclean, drove for about 10-15 minutes, filled up my tank, drove around some more....and the check engine light went off and my car is running smoothly again. So yes it does work. 10/10 would recommend.

    So today I had same issue. Being a girl I don't know cars..but learning. So I go to Auto Zone get the code P0420. I was sold a bottle of Catacleaner. I put it in , had over a half of tank. I thought I probably screwed up. Anyway, drove it 11 miles then home the light was on when I turned my car off. Just about 30 mins later I thought I'd drive it more at interstate speed as I read to do that. I start my car and the check engine light is off!!! Sure looks like the cleaner did the job on my 2015 Hyundai Accent.

    It worked for me. Just came back from the smog place and I passed. I used it and ran it for about 80 miles but light did not go off. After the 80 miles I did have to get the light off using OBD reader. Them ran the car about 150 miles see if light came back. It didn't so I took it to the smog joint today and as I said it passed. The cat guy wanted 600 dollars for a new one. I am very happy.

  • @otpyrcralphpierre1742
    @otpyrcralphpierre1742 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    One thing that most people are not really aware of...the Cat clogs up when your engine uses oil. Most
    people on here regularly change their oil, but most do NOT change their PCV valve. If this valve fails,
    your engine may well be sucking up oil into the intake. If you have to clean your Cat, change your PCV valve.
    It's Cheap, and it just might prevent it from doing it again.

    • @Powerstroke98
      @Powerstroke98 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Having a turbo six in my F150, I have a 'catch-can' that catches anything a PCV would capture, but your right, many forget to change this valve! Keeping unburned fuel or oil, certainly is not good for the CAT, so keep your engine running well, and you'll have your converter last much longer! I hear that using a higher octane fuel, also helps to keep the car/vehicle from running too rich.

    Not only does Cataclean NOT work (i tried it twice) , but Cataclean is ACTUALLY JUST LACQUER THINNER. Open a bottle of each of them, smell each of them, and you'll see what I'm talking about. Instead of using this 16 oz. bottle of b.s., mix 1 quart of lacquer thinner with 5 gallons of gasoline (2 quarts for 10 gallons, etc.) and watch the higher concentration of lacquer thinner clean your deposits much, much better. You will NOT damage anything inside your engine or catalytic converter, I promise you. Cataclean is a scam and it's actually just lacquer thinner.

    What might’ve happened is that the catalytic converter itself is fine, but one of the sensors was slightly dirty from either burning a small amount of oil over time that isn’t noticeable, but a little solvent is probably all it needed to get back to it’s happy place.

    Its works well. Here in the UK if your car is over 3 years old it has to go through a rather tough government test every year at a cost of around £45, I mean these test are really tough. One of the criteria is exhaust emissions. My wife drives a smart for 2 convertible but she does very little mileage its only covered 48,000 miles but as its not a daily it failed the emissions test last year, the guy at the desk recommended I went to the lock car shop and got a bottle of cataclean and drove the car "hard" for 20 minutes or so and then return. I did this and WOW the emissions had dropped to within the acceptable level, a pass WHOOO HOOO. Yesterday this years test so before I went I got catacleam, did the drive and it flew through the test so for me its a winner winner chicken dinner.

    Ok. 2005 Dodge Dakota 3.7 L Magnum here. I got the check engine light and I drove 6 miles until I went to autozone and got the error code. PO42O. So I bought the CataClean and waited for my low fuel warning light to come on. It came on a few mile later and the manual says I have 1/8 of 22 gallons of gas left. That’s 2.75 gallons. I put in 1.25 gallons of high test. Ran all of that through with the CataClean an an the error code was still there. I drove highway miles and did 50 miles on tow/haul which pushes my rpms from 2300 to 3000. Last 4 miles was city driving. Error code still there. Keep in mind I averaged75mph highway to heat things up. Also when I bout the truck at 189K the oil was black and it was really bad. I’ve been changing my oil at 1500-2000 miles since I’ve owned and the oil is almost clean now. So after I ran the CataClean I put some Lucas and 3 gallons of hi test in. 1 1/2 gallons down and I’ve still got an error code. After I run the next gallon I’m gonna fuel for work and reset the computer and see how long I go without the code if it comes back. I just took care of an EVAC leak a 1.5 months ago. Uggh. I’ll update.

Also if your engine is running efficiently and running properly the catalytic converters should last a life of the car. If the car is running too rich or if it's using a little oil it would be a catalyst to the converters failing. It would be funny if the cataclean was just a bottle of lacquer thinner. LOL

    I used this because my check engine light came on in my 2015 tundra. It was throwing code p0430. I will say that it definitely made my truck run noticeably better, however after further inspection I noticed that after my oil change that I got at a Toyota dealer, they had not reinserted the dipstick all the way in the engine bay which I believe is what was causing the code to appear. Just a reminder there could be other causes for this code appearing other than just a dirty / bad catalytic converter.

    • @danc2014
      @danc2014 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dip stick loose will allow air into the crank and thus the valve cover. The PVC system need a closed system else this extra air will enter the intake and throw off the fuel mix. You now have an uncontrolled combustion and the O2 sensor and computer will not align and see any proper adjustment thus a code is created. Hope it was a simple fix that you saw, just like a loose gas cap code.

  • @brianajameson7400
    @brianajameson7400 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hey sorry to be a little critical here, but we can all learn… that's why we're here! I agree with Paul M below. He is correct. Unfortunateley, the code you have is for the heating element/circuitry in the oxygen sensor. Cataclean would have virtually zero effect on this code. P431 is NOT set for catalytic converter inefficiency, which is a P420 or 430. Notice on your scanner- "O2 sensor warm up". If it was a 420 or 430 it would say "catalyst inefficiency below threshold -bank one (or two)" The light probably went out because th element is just starting to fail or there's a loose connector/wiring issue somewhere. If the ECU doesn't see the same problem for 1 to 3 additional drive cycles it will turn the light off. All of your theoretical knowledge is correct.... it's just the wrong code....it's an oxygen sensor code... so I don't believe this is a valid test of Cataclean. Easy mistake to make. That said, in my own experience, if you run it hard with the RPMs up for about 20 minutes, and the cat isn't too far clogged, Cataclean generally works (laquer thinner too) most of the time. I have seen the actual change on scanners with cat temperatures/ fuel trims etc. Tip: Even if you don't suspect a problem with your cat, run it at 3-4000 RPM for at least 5 minutes on your way to your emissions test, Right before you arrive at the test station is best. Test results can be night and day if you don't get those cat temperatures up. I've had multiple vehicles fail miserably where customers don't warm them up thoroughly - I mean the converters - and then doh! it will pass with flying colors 20 mins later ....just because they ran it hard before the test. Those cats need to get good and warmed up to do their job, especially if they have alot of miles on them. Hope this helps... and keep up the good work.

    • @richardhill2379
      @richardhill2379 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey there, dealing with this right now, I had the PO420 code. What you have to check first is for vacuum leaks and if you have a lean or rich mixture with your car, if your car has poor exceleration it might be your spark plugs need changing and also your PVC valve it might be stuck open or closed, if so clean it out and do the shake test, if you hear the metal bead rattling then its good, if not replace it.
      Check your O2 sensors and replace both the up and down sensors, clear your code and see if that helps. If the code comes back after checking for vacuum leaks, new plugs and PVC valve, then you may need a new cat.
      My situation was I had an exhaust leak, my exhaust manifold cracked down the middle so I put a new one on, I changed my plugs, replaced PVC valve and replaced both my O2 sensors and cleared my code. Now it's been one day and the code has not returned, so I am playing the waiting game. If the code returns I will have the catalytic conter replaced.
      For my experience, Cataclean did nothing regarding this code PO420 for me, but it does clean your engine abit. I used it one bottle to a full tank and felt some improvement with my car, with that in mind, I was afraid of it doing damage if I used a bottle with 1/4 tank of gas, this stuff is very powerful, just saying. Good luck man !!@@kevinbennett4856

      Diesel fuel nozzle is wider than the gas one. It won't fit into the gas car. Not to say I haven't seen gas stations where they put a gas size nozzle on the diesel pumps, but normally, you shouldn't be able to do it easily. It's the opposite problem that far more likely to happen and far more dangerous to the car. You put *a bit* of diesel in a gas car - it will smoke a lot, but will dry. Put a gas into the diesel, drive it a few minutes and you are done, need a new engine.
      Luckily, modern diesel car have some safety on their tanks that won't allow narrow nozzle to open the port. (That's why I can't even use that stupid gas station mentioned above to fill my VW. They have diesel, their price is great, but the nozzle won't open the port in the tank because it is a gas nozzle and it is narrower than it must be).

    Worked for me as well
    My gf stole a bottle from autozone
    My SES light was on p0420 code
    Early in the morning I drive my car until gas was 1/4 tank and to get the cat hot, put the cataclean in…took on the highway
    Drive for about 20 minutes
    Got off highway and filled up plus gas
    Drove back home
    Maybe 6-8 hours later I went out and the light was off. Didn’t need to clear it
    Went off on its own!
    No coincidences…cataclean cleaned my cat.

    Cool video boss, Cataclean is mostly made up of Acetone and isopropanol, while lacquer thinner is usually straight acetone, and many people have it laying around already, so I can see why people would use it.

    My daily beater is a 2008 bmw x5 with the 3.0 si N52 engine. At almost 212 k miles it popped a PO 420:430 code (Cats). Long story short estimated repair costs were about 4k dollars…..not gonna spend that for a car I only paid 700 bucks for…..anyway I put a bottle of this in a quarter tank and drove home about 15 miles . I Shut the vehicle off once I arrived home and immediately restarted it…..code was gone…. Follow the instructions and it will work perfect.

    Is that stuff just the same as fuel cleaner ? if so it work for a few weeks as an octane booster and mask out any lean conditions. Most probably clean your injectors more than anything as it would be burnt up in the combustion process before it could reach the cat. Good for improving your emissions before a test but I doubt it will do anything for the cats long term. Your O2 sensors or the fuel trims are the reason for the codes not the cc. If the cc is blocked then that's a different story and that stuff wont unblock a cc.

    I can also confirm this product works I just don't know how. Cleaning a CC is actually not that easy so I'm not sure if it's cleaning or tricking the sensor results. Plus I thought the thinner trick was soaking the CC in thinner, never heard of running it through the engine. This product will get you through a emissions test so to me it's worth the money and I recommend to friends.
