Same as the Duke, I suppose. Just put the front wheel of the 390 Adventure on any of the Indian made Dukes (390/250/200) along with similar tyres and voila! You have the 390/250/200 Adventure.

When I watched the recent reviews of Indian moto journalist of the 390 adventure, they said its not a capable off roader. But its a good road bike. Now I know why. This sweet talking journalist are the ones that is not capable of riding offroad.

I have watched almost every Indian review of this bike. Everyone was telling like "a good tourer". Most were not satisfied regarding its off-road potential (may be because of alloy wheels 😃). Now i understood the reason. We actually need off-road specialists to review bikes like these

Yeah, but the Adventure is only a little more capable than the Duke for off road use. I mean look at the specs! One inch more ground clearance and just a hair over an inch more suspension travel than the Duke. Other than that it has a 19" front rim and better ergonomics but it is a moderate boost to off road capability at best.
Totally. It was so sad to watch these guys with their tails between their legs.... Motorcycle journalist and they just don't know how to ride.... Or, just have the balls to give it a shot...
You will most definitely bend the front wheel if you ride this bike like the guy in the video.

Riemann, you've just blown their minds. I'm sure that there's a million Indian non-journalists who are itching to get their hands on this bike. It is the India-scaled version of what the 990+ bikes are to the rest of here. The seed is planted.
Except that the 990 is a proper adventure bike with proper off road kit. The 390 Adventure, on the hand, is basically the 390 Duke with an extra inch of suspension travel and ground clearance, a 19 inch front wheel and better ergonomics.
Also, you talk about Indian "non-journalists" while ignoring the socioeconomics of the country. There is hardly any culture of dirt bikes here as not many people are super rich that they can afford dirt bikes that cost more than most Indian cars. Dirt bikes are not street legal so it is clearly a luxury item out of the reach of a typical upper middle class household. There are very few people in India with the skills to match Adam's. Maybe even in single digits. It takes a lot of money and overcoming a lot of social resistance to get full time into becoming a pro dirt rider or even to develop intermediate skills.
PS: The seed for adventure riding was planted by a bike with a stronger off road focus - the Himalayan. But even that statement is misplaced because we have been going adventure riding on street bikes for decades now.

Alloy wheels tend to break when riding off road. Spoked wheels will allow the bike to go farther off the beaten path.
@@xterrential Agreed. But out of 1.3B people in India, how many of them does hardcore off roading. If there are any such enthusiasts, they will definitely not look at this bike as this an entry level model. In the video he clearly specified that KTM wants to introduce Indians to off road. Also think from cost benefit ratio and that's why they even ripped off adjustable front suspension to keep the cost down.
Only a skilled rider like Adam can ride the KTM the way its meant to be ridden.

Mr. Riemann you need to get some real riders to test out your 390 Adventure and not these media clowns. It's a shame that KTM could not find a hand full of hard core adventure riders in India . And believe me no one takes these guys, seriously and neither will their reviews make much of an impact on the sale of this bike. What will impact this bike will be the reviews of a few famous Indian TH-camrs on a 2000 kilometer ride through India .
All the wannabe punks on Indian moto vlogging scene on TH-cam is complaining about ABS being too intrusive, that isn't right and this isn't right in their walk around videos.
And this guy is riding it like a dirt bike and flying over that course. And the faces of those guys in the end said it all. So any moto vlogger reading this comment.. please stop fuckin around with your inexperienced comments about performance that you yourself aren't competent enough to explore!

Dude, the 390 Adventure is practically the 390 Duke with an inch more of ground clearance and suspension travel. The Himalayan and Xpulse are far better off road machines than the 390 Adv while this bike is a far better road tourer. It is as much an adventure bike as the Versys 650. And you are comparing those guys with a professional who can probably pelt a Harley Davidson off road. You don't have to be very skilled to see that the 390 Adventure is not for hard off road riding.
@@amithsingh2343 Traction control is not necessary for this bike. Try riding a 390 or 200 Duke off road and you will see how unnecessary it is on these bikes. Just put on proper tyres and you are set.

@@amithsingh2343 Just because these moto vloggers could not tackle this terrain well does not mean that the bike was capable or not capable. You are right. Most people do not ride off road much but when KTM puts the "Adventure" label on a bike, that bike lives up to the name. The 390 Adventure 'seems' like it does not.
Awesome. I already knew the reality of fancy full packed riding gear wearing so called riders but you showed the truth on TH-cam. I am already frustrated by the TH-cam riders, commenters in this TH-cam platform blabbering about their costly Bmw or triumphs, they know everything except Riding

Now imagine these same journalists on a big 1290 super adventure on that same rocky uphill trail 😳. That comparison reveals how good the 390 adv is due to light weight for a beginner- average level rider.
Man these guys should have stayed away from this launch. Litmus test for many. So fragile. No wonder that most bikes shown in their reviews had damage around the tank and handles.
Anyways, this bike sure has made me excited enough to buy it and enjoy riding in my 30s.

@@neel26nilesh Keep in mind that I rode an RC390 from Mumbai to Pune (3.5 hours), rode the ADV for 4 hours, had to film my own content and then ride back to Mumbai again. Not denying that I'm an offroad novice but its easy to criticize from the comfort of a computer chair. Also, while Adam didn't show it in the video, we did go for another round :D. Thoroughly enjoyed riding with you Adam. Hope to do this again sometime soon. Ride safe.

But from above video it tend to be some of rider declined that offer unlucky you were also in that click...you may face the heat due to that but in reality you rode way more and better than other journalist( as seen on many other rider stories).....

common KTM INDIA, how could you miss Bulu bhai and Junaid bhai for such a launch? these are the people who tour on such roads through out the day, please watch their videos sometime. These auto journalists can maximum hold the show for an hr or 2 anything more then that is a curse for them. seriously bulu bhai I waited for your video for a quite a long and now I understand why there is no video. Anyways hope you get the bike soon and take it to upper mustang again bhai, that will be real review.

What is the point of buying such expensive adventure bikes and riding it only on highways? earlier I was a subscriber of him but lately all his videos are full of advertisements only.

Riemann thanks for your amazing video. 390 adventure is slightly disappointing. KTM is not introducing Indians to off-road, KTM India is only on road, no off-road model available in India. All the people riding off-road have imported KTM's with no support from KTM India. Only off-road bikes in India are Hero Xpulse (Powerless) and somewhat Royal enfiled Himalayan(shit quality). I have waited for this bike for so long and got a marketing version, they don't event launched long suspension and spoke wheel in Powersports. You have also ridden a Hero impulse in your Himalaya trip video because of no available options. Until someone launches a good off-road bike you will keep meeting these kinds of journalists. There is an off-road community in India but not with KTM.
100 percent agree! This just the Duke with slightly more suspension travel and ground clearance and a 19" rim. This is not an Adventure bike any more than the Versys 650. Current Himalayan's quality is better than the BS3's, though.
@@twistednemo yeah bs4 slightly better, I have it. Done some dirt riding. Jumped hard some times and had to change all bearing and suspension. Not a dirt like bike still.
@@HemendraChaudhary619 Oh, the Himalayan is definitely not a dirt bike but at least it is setup for off road use unlike the 390 Adventure which is a soft-roader. And people saying this is the best adv bike in India are not considering the off road aspect. The 390 Adventure and Himalayan are far from being direct competitors because of differing design philosophies and price segments.

Maybe the yesteryear reviewers led you to this conclusion, I must have seen more than 20 video reviews of the bike. Every one of them wanted this bike to be a hit so that they could enjoy the tarmac rides where Himalayan fails.

@@AdithyaVardhanGarapati not really talking about the ktm here haha. Just the fact that every motorbike review I've seen come out of India since the himalayan was released just feels like the review was bought by RE. It's good to see a KTM review coming from india
they are not used to ride while standing. that's why the RE himalayan is famous to them. they can slowly crawl those terrains while both feet on the ground.

The Himalayan and Xpulse are better off road bikes. This bike simply has more power but not enough suspension travel.
@@twistednemo HImalayan is RE which uses pig iron in their builts . Xpulse is better but lack any sort of power.
The ones who need a offroad motorcycle easily manage with a 100/150cc rugged motorcycle on a daily basis. They are also the ones who cannot afford a KTM 390 Adv or likes. While the ones (i'm talking about Indians) who brag about 'going places' on a ADV hardly have any skill to ride offroad.
A skilled offroader who can afford a adv is still a niche in India.

Cannot agree more. That's why I'm riding a xpulse. Cannot afford this beast of a bike. But the xpulse does the job too
If a pulsar 180 (with pillion) can do the job in Mustang valley for most of the Nepalis, then I'm sure Xpulse does it with a lot of grace.

To all the people who complain about the alloys and no 'off-road specific' engine tuning. Fucking learn to ride the bike off-road first, then see if those parameters are a bottleneck or not. I had done a sample off-road practice trail on my std Duke 390 when others had the Himalayan and did better than most of them. Your potential/skill level will always be biggest bottleneck, not the bike unless you are an expert
i hate the automotive journalist in India, they treat motorcycles like they are mobiles and electronic gadgets. Every review feels like a scripted high school play. just journalist after journalist that is a outcome of a mass comm. degree. Only few come above this bar.

You may be be super rich to be able to afford a dirt bike. Most upper middle class Indians are not. A dirt bike in India costs more than a family car and is not street legal. You don't understand the socioeconomics of India. Your comment is the equivalent of "If they don't have bread, let them eat cake."

@@khakimzhanmiras There are probably only three or four moto journalists in India that can ride really, really well. Most ride well on the road. For the dirt, how does one practice except on street bikes or soft-roaders like this one? Even I do trails on my KTM 200 Duke and started doing so only about a year ago because I can spare this bike. That being said, the trail in the video can be tackled better than how these journalists are managing.
@@twistednemo Everything your saying is exactly why KTM chose India for the release of this bike, which I think was very smart. These videos revealing their lack of experience off-road truly shows that India is an untouched market for (affordable) adventure bikes.

@@Bunno1177 please look at stats before making a comment like this. KTM's ADV bikes are new to us, but India has been one of the top-selling markets for the 200, 250, 390 and recently also the 125, both Duke and RC counterparts. Heck, they're all made in India, for the rest of the world.

I’m not sure why there are so many unflattering remarks towards the Indian moto journalist. Some rode rather well actually, and the rest are street biased riders, so off-road is new to them. A lot of those guys ride in congested urban areas and are probably capable of navigating and riding in such a way that would make most of American and Euro riders crap their pants. I’m just saying, lets be more respectful to our fellow riders. They’ve kinda inspired me to want to get out and ride more.
Lastly, I wish KTM would make a 690 Adventure but it would probably cannibalize 390 & 790 sales, so probably not going to happen.

Motowipeout What!!?? These guys are look like newbies! This is the same as terrain we take for granted up here in North Eastern Ontario Canada. I’ll give them an E for effort though. I’m sure they’re going to be hooked on off road after this.
A 490 ADV with twin cylinders is on the horizon, to be manufactured in India as a global model. Could be a MY2021 model at the very least.
Apropos, a 690 ADV may not make sense in the lineup right now. But, nothing is written in stone! Who knows after 2-3 years of retailing the 490 ADV in India, a 690 ADV twin could be developed.

I'm not gonna back everyone, cos I know a ton more out there who use their motorcycles for posing & content creation on straight highways / famous destination rides for social media climb, even to the level that they buy expensive bikes to attract followers while not even knowing basics like how to clean their bike chains. On social media they pose nothing short of BADASS.
However, some folks (like @oggyf ) are honest and upfront about their realities. If they don't offroad, they say so & want to learn. Same was with track riding. And I appreciate that & I'm sure they'll get better. Everyone starts somewhere & I see good in those who're not here to "fake it till you make it".
This can only be said about very few people though.

The problem with the jurnos not learning new things and not exploiting every genre bikes rather then just sticking to the same old shit ! Making videos,blogs vlogs etc on the same old sh₹t for popularity and followers, i think the idea is to up your game in every aspect of motorcycling!

brandon gardner the problem with Indian journalists/bloggers/vloggers/influencers is not lack of opportunities anymore but the fear of exploiting new things and it doesn’t stop there the problem is with companies PR and Marketing team too that they only call people who has huge number of followers thinking that if these types of people come to the event they would reach to maximum number of customers but they don’t understand the skill sets of these influencers.

i've been ride my duke390 off road for long time so no doubt this bike is going to be a perfect machine for me. Only thing that breaks my heart is KTM could call riders with off road experience to test the machine rather than calling fancy journalists who can't even saddle uphill on trail.
No doubt KTM is one of the best off road machine manufacturer worldwide. Just missed a chance to meet Adam. May be next time

I think what you are trying to do here is just embarrass the Indian riders. You have been lucky to have born in a place where motorcycles are a lifestyle and motorsports is a routine activity. The guys who you rode with are the actual first generation motorcycle journalists who have pushed through stigma, judgement and other difficulties to do what they like. Their lack of skill is not by choice, but of lack equal opportunities compared to you international riders. We definitely are on the way, and soon enough we will be there.

Pritvi Ram a wise man makes opportunities and not seek for it, before even the influencer and followers concept was there in india we had so many bikes and events happening everywhere in india but how many influencers or jurnos you see participating in events or doing anything other than media rides. Show me one jurno in india who can really do justice to the 390 adv on trails.

I tried the national championships, the basic race spec full gear costs above 1 lakh. For a middle class person like me it's impossible to raise that sort of money. My brother did the Dakshin and just could not afford to continue as a job turned to be more important. Even to mod his Fiero to race spec was such a costly affair and would take months with us designing each bit. Up until the Impulse there was nothing remotely capable, but even that is just about as sturdy as a bicycle.

so india has a lot of people. But it does not have lots of people with lots of money. A ktm is an expensive machine compared to the scooters and honda 125s. Plus other cheap alternatives. Cool little bike tho and good to see you flog the absolute shit out of it.

These guys remind me of when I worked in the IT department for a magazine company. This "Technical Writer" who writes about computer gear would regular call the IT department (usually me) to get one of his gadgets to work. It was so sad.
I don't really even care that they can't ride off-road. That none of these guys were like "Yeah, let's do the loop!"... All talk. No action. So sad...

EDIT: After reading a few more comments, also read that some of the reviewers weren't in their best form. For them, I totally understand your situation. But at the same time, feel that pre-planning an off-road experience would have helped you enjoy it more. Just my 2¢.

@@mokujin29 I believe one or two of the reviewers had ridden from far off places to attend this, following which they had to do all the video shoots themselves.
But the others were here with a whole crew.

Great work as usual. Will be excited to see this one come out. There are quite a few great adventure riders in India I know but like you said it's a HUGE country and it's not at all common.

It was a very rewarding experience for me helping a lot of the journalists discover some real off-road tracks. Some did it tough, but they were very pleased to have experienced a new level of riding.

I landed on this video searching on how to do log jumps on my 390 adv. It’s surprising to see some of these known faces ride so weak off-roads. My lesson learned is Indian riding community needs non scripted content to be educated with facts and not opinions/narratives.
The bike is immense capable to take a beating, I can tell from first hand experience of riding this bike alongside Enduros - it can do way more than you can do!
Back to what I was looking for - can you help me get this bike bunny hop over logs. I end up hitting the bash plate so far every time I try
KTM 390 got an insane amount of power, but the heating issues still not figured out. As said that on the first gear it can hit to 60 easily but moving forward on those first gear at the times makes your bike more heat up & pumped harder. Actually, it needs to be taken care of it.
How will the issue be 'figured out' ? IT simply cannot be becuase of the compression ratios these motors run at.
Moto journalists are of what mopeds? So nice to see you put them up against all but small but real adventure motorcycle in a real motorcycle environment. I like brutal honest good or bad reviews . I currently own a 2016 Africa twin but I am seriously thinking of buy this KTM.
Why do they sit down climbing hills? That never seems to end up well. Stand up, squeeze the bike with your legs, use body english to control the bike and let the bike take the harsh bumps. It's a much more controlled way to manage the ruff stuff. And going too slow. charge those hills!

Indian automotive journalists are useless. As people learn to ride and improve their skills there will come a time when nobody will care for them. Gary semics, Keith code are educating people and producing better riders. These journalists don't seem to invest any time and effort in improving their skills, most of them haven't even raced professionally, they are not even good mechanics but want to dish out advice and review's.
If you ask writers to ride, how will they ? May be they will buy can't expect out of their capacity.
We have so many accomplished off-road riders in India, should have invited them to test the machines.
