- Welcome to my journey to Kanchanaburi, Thailand! Join me as I touch down in this incredible city that's been highly praised by many. Departing bright and early from my Bangkok hotel, I embark on a short stroll to the train station. After securing my ticket, I hop on board and experience a portion of the historic Death Railway en route to Kanchanaburi.

I loved Kanchanaburi back in the day. Great memories. Thanks for showing us around Wayne 👍🏼😃
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks mate.
Yeah, we had a 1 night stop there years back to see the bridge and the place was calm, quiet & enjoyable 👍 enjoy mate 👍
Very calm place Simo, Feels like I'm in a bubble, I love it here. Cheers mate.
Visited kanchanaburi many times,I just love the layed back vibe, one of my favourite places in Thailand 👍
It's a great place Dave 👍
That Kanchanaburi looks homey, and laid back. I could feel comfortable there. I sure respect you people who travel so light, and are able to just get up and and go, kind of like free birds. Myself, I am like a big tree with roots so deep now, it is beyond me to travel. Enjoy your freedom man.
Cheers David! I do like having a base and then travel for a bit, then go back to the base for a while. I prefer travelling light these days , Im trying to travel even lighter next time. Thanks
Been many times, it's a great biker place and popular. Some great riding in Erawan national park and great views
Great place! Sad but very chilled town.
Welcome 😀 this is where i live, and im loveing this place , was here the first time in 2018 and fell in love with the area , have a good one 😀
Thanks! Yes, I'm already falling for the place, I don't think I'll want to leave.
Good to see you survived Pattaya mate! I got out of there pronto after the conference!
It was an experience mate. Nice to be in a more chilled place now 😀
I'm looking forward to your next vlogs. Although I have a good friend that lives in Kanchanaburi I have never been there. I have heard lots of good things about the place, maybe your vlogs will convince me to go there on my next visit. I have also heard that The Jolly frog is THE place to stay there. Keep em coming!
Thanks! More Kanchanabury vlogs coming.
I stayed in a resort right on the river, went swimming in the river every day, loved it!😊
Never understood why those places don't have a ton of gators hanging around.
@@stevecarr1992, I don't think there are alligators in thailand to start with?
The water here must be good then.
@@WalkAboutWayne , yes it is because the river water actually flows from Burma where it's dammed and it quite strange because at certain times of the day the water levels drops quite alot and then they open the dam gates and the level rises again! It's good because the water is new every 24 hours, like a tide at the beach cleaning all the bad stuff out every day!😊
Thought so. Good choice . Great place. Lots of our heroes sleeping the big sleep there.
Nice mate! Yes, very emotional place.
I’ve never visited Kanchanaburi. It’s a place I’ve wanted to go but never got round to it. Watching your vlogs I’ll be planning it 2-3 nights on my next trip.
Nice one! It's well worth a visit. Lovely place.
Memories of the same train journey in 1990. Loved Kanchanaburi back then, stayed riverside which was magical. Look forward to seeing how the place looks almost 35 years later (and perhaps time to plan a return journey)...
Nice one! Thanks.
My friend. U should go pkk. South of hua hin. It is very quiet and seaside. Check it out when u can.. have fun mate.
Maybe one day mate. Thanks 👍
Wow Wayne Epic walkabout . This place looks like your style .Thanks for my Thailand Fix ! Almost like being there .I want to know if it’s possible to tour The whole of Thailand by train . 100 baht is a bargain. The use of public transport could save heaps of money .I believe there is aircon in other carriages at a higher price . Baht bus more expensive here than pattaya . Nice bike deal, I am interested in mountain bike hire which I have only seen in Hua hin so far. Maybe they can be taken on trains aswell?
Thanks! This place is near.perfect for me, it's go me thinking of moving here already. You could do most major towns by train, you might need to take a few buses. You can get Aircon trains on other lines, not to Kanchanaburi you can't. Cheers mate.
Great to see you there my friend - I spent a few days there Nov. 23 - really enjoyed it
- The museum , the cemetery & Hellfire pass interactive centre ( Free ) were real highlights and of course the bridge 👌👋🙏
I'm going to all those places Ant . Happy days 👍
One of my favourite places in Thailand, Enjoy it Wayne 👍
I think it could be one of mine aswell 👍
Loving the vids mate !!
Keep up the good work 🍻
Thank you mate 👍
Thought I seen you last week here fella 👍
Nice! That was probably me mate .
I love trains. As a child I used cut school and play on the train tracks. Do you call it "playing hookey"? Anyway, I would love to see more trains, stations, tunnels, etc. I think there is a lot of history and information. Even the types of trains, year built, origins, etc. I always ride the overnight sleeper car from Bangkok to Chaing Mai. Great sunrise views from the cafe car if you catch the train the arrives in Chaing Mai at 9am. (6am arrival misses it all) I am a true trainspotter!
Maybe you would like to take the train back north on your return? Have you done it before? Just an idea mate. Enjoy your trip
The train was a nice ride for 2 hours, but not to Chiang Mai mate. That would do my head in. Cheers mate.
Na, You sleep like a baby being rocked in a cradle all night. ;)

What a Bobby Dazzler of a choice of place to go Wayne. You'll love it there. I went on the train right down to the stop before the Myanmar border then caught a long tail boat into Myanmar (illegally of course) by a few hundred meters so been there too 😂 Elephants around the river banks and all. Great experience. So much to see and do and a place with so much history. I reckon a week there is about right too. Certainly a great place to chill. Our mate Sean swears by it too. Those Erawan Falls are magnificent, about 7 levels to them. If those sorts of places are your 'cup of tea' then well worth a look especially with transport in place already. Enjoy your time there buddy. I'm jealous as I'd love to be there sometime down the track. Hopefully I get around to it 🤩
Nice one Steven, sounds like you had a good time here. It's a very special place. I'll be sticking around for a while.
Did you look at the bus from Pattaya to Kanchanaburri?
It used be a direct trip before Covid.
I love Kanchanaburri, great spot to get away and still have some fun 😊
I didn't look at the bus Mark. I went straight for the bus to Bangkok and then train route.
@@WalkAboutWayne fair call, I’ll be doing a similar trip in May 😀
@@markdumbrell2618 I did think about it Mark and stopping off at places. But I'm not going that way just yet mate.
i love history like that also sometime gonna go see it
So much history here, it's going to be emotional.
Love your life mate just doing it no plans living the dream
Thanks mate!!
On my next trip in a few months, I'm going to visit Kanchanaburi. I've seen is praised in TH-cam videos at least.
It's a special place 👍
I was there in 2005, so I am looking forward to seeing it now through your videos! Enjoying watching as always Wayne.
Thank you Dani, I'm looking forward to seeing Kanchanaburi. 🙏
Good chill out town
Great town for chilling.
So much to do in the area Wayne, can easily pass a week. Try and head up to the Mon Bridge in Sangklaburi near the Burmese border. We'll off the beaten track and so beautiful. You will be the only farang there 👍👍
Doubt if I'll be going to the border mate, but I'll be out and about 👍
Nothing is better than an off the beaten path city where the people are nice, the sounds are quiet and the pace is slow. Look forward to seeing you unpack this new location.
Couldn't have said it better myself 👍. Thanks mate
"Bridge on the river Kwai" one of my favorite movies. Can't wait to see it though your eyes. I'm too old now to do all those things in Thailand but love following your adventures. Is starting to get hot here in Corpus Christi, always dread the heat and hurricane season. Be safe man.
Thanks Malcolm, I will have to watch that movie again soon. It will be emotional in Kanchanaburi.
Have you ever considered ditching your room in CM and doing a year long bike tour throughout thailand? You could stay a month each in 12 cities. It would be epic...Your views spike when you travel...could be a nice little moneymaker
Yes, I've considered it many times Jeff. I'm not sure I'm cut out for full time travel mate, I do enjoy it but I like having a base and routine. I will see how I feel after this trip though. I'm doing a video on this subject soon.
@@WalkAboutWayne whatever works for you mate, cheers
Really looking forward to your next video, today I went to the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City, as an American it was depressing but I'm real glad I went. TripAdvisor ranked it the #1 tourist attraction in the city, loads of people there. I will retrace your path on my next visit to Thailand
That's great Dan, I would like to go to that museum. Thanks
It's a nice place to stay. Not surprised you're enjoying it there Wayne. I really like it along the river. Be interesting to see how far down the Thai Burma railway track you make it on foot.
Cheers Doug. I'm happy here for a while. Great place.
Kanchanuburi a great place ,apart from kho chang this is my favourite place
Yes, I'm starting to really like Kanchanaburi
Everyone seems to make the same mistake, first time arriving in Kanchanaburi (understandably).
They all get off at the same stop you did which is Kan city centre.
If you stayed on the train for one more stop (only about 3 minute trip) you get dropped off at the actual Bridge over the River Kwai (which is closer to all the farang (tourist) hotels/guest houses, bars and restaurants and where a lot of the ex-pats live).
Never mind, you know for next time.
Depends where your hotel is. The bridge is just 2 minutes on. I'm down at the bridge every day. I don't see how it's a mistake. It's easy to get to the bridge. I'll be getting off again at the Train station again next time. Cheers 🥂
Glad you chose Kanchanaburi. I will get a car next week and Kanchanaburi was one of the first places I was thinking of visiting. I want to see Erawan Falls, supposed to be really nice. And stay at the River Kwai Floating Hotel. I had relatives at Hellfire Pass and Song Karia (up near the 3 pagodas on the border with Myanmar). Kanchanaburi looks nice so far in your video. Cannot wait to see more, Cheers.
Nice one Paul 👍
Nice enjoy the peace Wayne. Ive heard on a few vlogs its really cheap there. Its on my (maybe visit) list when I come so im interested to see what you think 👍
It's nice to have some peace and quiet again . I'm starting to love this place 👍
Go to Devils pass canyon mate very erie and can almost feel those who lost their lives cutting through a granite mountain
Hey Gaz, yes I'll be going to Hellfire Pass mate. So.much history here, I can already feel the lives lost all around the town. Cheers mate.
Kanchanaburi is a really nice place, i've spent a lot of time there in the past, but i find it get's super boring after a couple of nights. I'd recocmend you drive out into Sai Yok national park ,. theres some verry stunning countryside there.
It is a sleepy town, but I love that. Special place. I'll chill here for a few days. Cheers Andi.
11:14 people standing in the way! it's coffee time🎉
Never touch the stuff.
Wayne your travelling like it should be done thai style mate proper you got the breeze I have had my hernia operation so I look forward to your vlog
Hope you recover quick Robert. Thanks mate.
Welcome to Kanchanaburi , to Hot season 🤗😊👍🎉🎊
Hottest place in Thailand 🔥
Wow what a difference with the noise and people between Bangkok and Kanchanaburi . I loved the train ride and accompanying music ( What were the toilets like 😅) Looked forward to this new place .
Yes, big difference mate. Toilets weren't the greatest 😂
Kanchanaburi has a 7 tier water fall. The whole mountain with 7 levels of pools to swim, if there is water at the time :)
This alone could be an all day event.
Elephant bathing… no box - bare back riding and swimming in the river. The most fun in Thailand! Certain elephants are more playful for the more aggressive and others more chill for just get your legs wet. Highly recommended!
Huge Cave!
Night Market of course.
There was a Tiger Temple - not sure if that’s still going.
An amazing get away just a few hours from bkk.
is that the erawan one ? i was destroyed after walking up that 😂😂😂😂
I was at Erawan Falls 3weeks ago. Complete waste of time in dry season. Still busy as well but not worth 320THB for essentially an okay boarded walk looking. Even worse was Huai Mae Falls a hour up the road. 320THB again and nothing 😂🙈
Yes, I doubt I'll be going to Earwan waterfall. I've heard it's one of the best in Thailand though and a long hike.
Good choice. For me best nightmarket from Thailand. Also a lot to see in walking distance and with motobike or bus dagtrip to Erawan Falls/NP. I am sure this is a place and area for you. Enjoy, have fun and take it easy, take it easy 😊😊😊.
Yes, I'm really liking Kanchanaburi already. 👍
14:04 - Wayne, that looks like one of those Thai love hotels.. 😂 They hang curtains in front of the car bays. I remember coming across one or two in Chiang Mai..
🤣 It's a proper hotel mate. But sure, you can bring someone back . I know the one in Chiang Mai you mean aswell haha. It does look like them. I love this room.
Enjoy your lill'trip back North, maybe stop by at MAE SOT, nice little boarder town. Godspeed =)
Not for a while yet mate, but thanks 🙏
Hi Wayne, i love Kanchanabury, i have been a good few times, it just has that nice vibe and its so cheap. Do take a look at The Jolly Frog places to stay, its on the left about a quarter the way down to the bridge on the river side, loved staying there and it has a huge very cheap restaurant with great food, also i am sure if you have not done it yet is hellfire pass, my word it makes you think what those poor soul's endured down there. Cheers, nice vlog thanks.
Yes mate, it's a very special place. I'll be staying around for a few days . Nice one 👍
A sleep Hostel (200 meter from trainstation) cheap and great to stay, several dorms, super clean and always nice guests. Cheerszzzz Mos Holland.
I've already got my place mate. Cheers 👍
Stay just to chill for a week. Is that not what you are doing all day Wayne, chillin? :D
No, not for the past 4 or 5 days mate.
Thats true, but your life is quite chill, no work, doing what you want but yeah Pattaya is not that chilled :)
Ditch the bike for a boat down the river will be the highlight of your trip I saw a monk walking on water there in the 90's it was very strange.
Nah, bike all the way 👍
I was there in 2013, very moving place. Hell fire pass and the bridge over the river kwai, as well as the commonwealth war graves cemetery? To think about what happened there, sends shivers down my spine. My dad was in WW2 and was a POW of the Germans. So I had some idea of what they went through, but this was next level evil?
Yes Paul, it's a strange place, so sad here but a great town. It feels extra chilled, because of what happened.
Avoid Noi's bar about one klm. from the bridge, He's a known crook to the police. Erawan national park and Erawan falls is a beautiful place to visit...
Nice , I'll.pop in and say hello 👍
Always a joy to see a new Walk-About video! So glad you decided to keep with long format video and didn't succumb to the brainless "Shorts." Looking forward to seeing where this adventure takes you!
Thank you! Yes, I'm not interested in Shorts on my channel. They do more harm than good and they're rubbish. Thanks 😀
Kanchanaburi, I think I was where I went with my ex missus. That's where Erawan Waterfalls are and the dam nearby. Enjoy swimming with the fishes if ya go there 👍
Waste of time in the dry season.
I don't think I'm going Earwan. As a few people have mentioned, it's not that good at the minute and a bit of a hike I've heard.
Nice Il be in kanchanaburi tomorrow, go there often. Can take you to a farm if you want 😂
Nice one! I'm A bit tied up for the next few days man. Have a good one though 👍
Following Sean king
Good ol' Sean, top man. I do my own thing though mate. 👍
The hotel you booked into would have been a love hotel. Maybe still is one
It could have been but I don't think so, not enough people around. It does look like one outside though. It's a great hotel, I'm well happy with this place.
Wayne is stayed in a place for about 2 months years ago called bangkapi it’s still Bangkok but outside this market reminds me of it 3000 thai baht for a one bed flat 😂 😂 I lived on £700 per month and had western food sometimes love it thai traditional
Northeast part of Bangkok. Huge mall, also near the Airliner Graveyard. The boat bus goes by there on the canal.
Nice! Sounds good 👍
We always said "Wakey Wakey hands off snakey" During WW2 TL lets the Japanese walk in to save having a "Dust Up" Escaped Pows were handed back to the Japanese by Locals - not sure if that happened 100% of the time but still there was little chance of escape, spoke with a few old diggers about being a Japanese Pow, some despised their captors, some were so-so, but all agreed it was Hell to b a POW over there if a POW started to pick and eat his sores he was on the way out one bloke said.
But being a POW to the Germans wasn't too bad one bloke said, and he escaped 3 times from the goose steppers. But he said he was glad he was not from Poland (treated really badly)
I like that version of "Wakey Wakey" 🤣. Yes, I ben reading a lot the last few days. Crazy times.
let me guess trev bailed out on the trip with you while in pattaya 😄
Trev? My mate Trev is still back in the UK
Do you need drivers license to rent bike?
Most places don't ask for one.
A good night sleep sounds amazing. Something happened to me in Thailand and it's been two weeks of high blood pressure , sweats at night, and little sleep. I see a Dr. In 2 days🙏 someone can figure this out because right now I'm living in HELL ....❤
Not good mate, hope you start feeling better real soon.
Make sure you didn’t get something like dengue, will pass tho if it is
@Alp3124 Thanks! It's now turned into ANXIETY because I now have to take high blood pressure pills, which makes more anxiety thinking about the problem 😅 peace
@WalkAboutWayne Thanks bud !!!!
