  • Blending your tone in a complementary way is crucial when playing both synth & electric bass in a worship set.
    Otherwise, you’ll be able to feel the low end sucked out of the room the moment you switch instruments.
    This is a common mistake when approaching playing synth & electric bass in a live worship set.
    In this series David Curran walks us through how he’s set up his rig to solve this issue & some tricks he’s used when recording on songs like Cody Carnes' “Nothing Else” & Phil Wickham’s “Battle Belongs”.
    Watch Part 2 Here: worshiponline.com/how-to-use-...
    In Part 2:
    - In-depth look at David's pedalboard
    - David's Moog settings
    0:00 - Intro
    1:00 - When Should You Play Sub Bass?
    2:16 - Transitioning from Electric to Sub Bass
    3:19 - "Nothing Else" Playthrough
    6:25 - Blending Together Sub & Electric Bass
    8:08 - Little Trick with the Sustain
    8:45 - "Battle Belongs" Playthrough

    Thanks for sharing great tips for bassist at church :) After watching this video, I accidently figured out that Sub37 has Latch On at Amp generator section which you can activate holding note as using sustain pedal :) FYI. Anyway, I appreciate what David's doing.
    Just a little tiny correction might be needed on the video of Part 2 that explanation of David's Oscillator, wethich is should be Triangle wave, not Sawtooth. I also totally agree either waves are fine yet on the setting it shows Triangle shape FYI ;)

    Hello, how did you make the pedal play the last note that was played? My pedal only sustains the current note, but if I'm not playing it doesn't play the last note like you did... I need to play the note again on the keyboard!!

    I was thinking of using a sustainer for basically what you are using the moog for. I don't have a lot of highs like you do.

    What about bass pedals (like a Moog Taurus) or a bass pedal controller with a keyboard? Or if you're in a more traditional church, getting your organist to play the sub bass parts on organ as you play bass guitar?

    • @DJPenguino51
      @DJPenguino51 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the setup to me is the most versatile. You can play "drone notes" with a bass pedalboard (Moog Taurus 1 or modern equiv: that bass synth you have hooked to a MIDI bass pedalboard like the Roland PK5 or Crumar Mojopedals, etc.). It's something that a lot of Progressive rock bassists used back in the day. Think Geddy Lee of Rush and Mike Rutherford of Genesis for 2 excellent examples.

    awesome video, but i have a question, im beginner of synth bass(currently only playing acoustic bass) and i have no idea which synth i can start of. You have any suggestion? it might be "cheap" but actually useful on gigs. thanks you for the answer everyone!!

    • @Worshiponline
      @Worshiponline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      YES! There are so many cheap ones. Easiest is to grab a midi controller, and play through your computer! Cheaper costs and it will still sound amazing!

    A midi rig could do the same thing and more though Midi could be more problematic with a bass than a guitar I' not certain if manufacturers had sorted that out. I had a midi/peizo giutar bridge on and it tracked very well so I could hook it up to a midi X board or into a digital interface and run literally and sound from my PC VST soft synths through my guitar. I could get a piezo acoustic sound straight from the guitar, blend in the electric pickups and also use midi sounds so if I wanted a hammond organ or pad strings on power chords you could do that in addition. It can become a lot to juggle.There are so many ways to skin the cat these days. Tech is awesome to play with but it should never interfere with making music. Have fun out there.
