    I play this while my kid has "late dinner" to make up for "being full" at dinner time. Pretty fun, reasonably chill.

      The late dinner struggle is REAL!

    really great review! I love Oxygen not included but it's so confusing to me, I'm looking to play this before they add a bunch of stuff. Do you think this game will be on sale all the time like other Klei games?

      It's hard to tell if Mind Over Magic will hit frequent sales. It hasn't deviated much from it's initial $22-$25 price range since launch. ONI goes on sale down to anywhere from $7 to $10 every 4-6 months.
      If you're really hoping for a sale, I'd say to give it another couple months to see if they continue that trend. As it is, it's still worth the $25 :)

    I clocked about an average of 12 hours a day in the first 5 days I owned this game LOL I've also played 1000+ hours of Rimworld and 600+ hours of ONI, and can definitely see the similarities. Love Klei games in general, so I have trust in whatever they decide to slap their name on. Was not disappointed!
    Some tips for anyone interested that I've picked up in my 130+ hours of playing this game so far:
    Roofs can be built inside rooms! For modular base lovers like me, this means a 7x9 room can be lofted and skewed with a roof on the inside. To retain lofted, rooms will need to be 2 taller instead of just one since the roof will remove one height. Not only will this give the rooms a lux bonus for being roofed, it also gives the room above it elevated. On a similar note, unfinished roofs make rooms "outdoors." I use this to make my central spiral staircase room outdoors while keeping floors level, and it's also a great way to make towered rooms as well. No research required!
    Stock up on sinew! you'll use a lot to make your gardens, so start early! On that note, I've learned to just ignore carcass stew. Carcasses are better used for making sinew, ectoplasm, or meat.
    make graves early and kill off a few students on purpose. you'll need hallowed lily later on, and the lone founders grave will not make enough.
    Once you've researched foundations, it's a good idea to put one on the other side of your crop gardens and use it to put up a wall with a door. No need for scarecroas when the croas can't reach your crops in the first place!
    Mine the crap out of those misty crystals! They can drop dragonfire flasks which are a later game potion that deals 150 damage. Makes early combat a breeze since most enemies have around that much health or lower.
    Always have a fast earth wand user. preferably wolfkin since they have the highest base speed. Earth armor is just too good not to go first in combat. I come out of most of my combats unscathed because of it, unless there happens to be some AOE enemies.
    Grab Quilted research as early as possible. I didn't touch them for a while because I was learning the game and trying not to get overwhelmed, but don't make the same mistake! They are insanely useful!
    Oh and just in case there are some people like me who can't remember for the life of them:
    Bug hatching ritual requires a level 3 nature, level 3 water, and level 4 earth student
    Bird hatching ritual requires a level 4 air and level 4 fire student

      Wow! Thank you for the pointers! I was actually wondering if they planned on nerfing earth armor, it's pretty broken at the moment.
      Your building tips seem on-point! Thank you for the detailed comment. I'm sure it will help someone, it will definitely help me!

      @@dadtries No problem! I certainly hope they help! I do agree on the earth armor. taunt + 60/120 armor is just so good. makes a lot of single target enemy combats trivial. The selfish side of me hopes not though! especially when air and fire mages are just one man nukes.
      My current combat setup is fast earth and fast nature in the front, and high power air and high power/mana fire in the back. Earth to tank, nature to buff backlines, and the backline just nukes the enemies. lol

    I'm soooo glad you took the time to make this review. It really answered a ton of my questions. It does seem like a game I'll eventually pickup. I think the devs need our full support. I can sense their vision through the details of what they have so far. I need to finish Hogwarts Legacy on Pc .

    • @dadtries
      @dadtries  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I haven't played much of Hogwarts Legacy. My wife plays, and I'm handed the controller only when she needs help on the harder fights. I've found my Dark Souls experience really helps out in that game's combat. Would you agree?
      You won't be disappointed with Mind over Magic!

    Never played Rimworld, but I have a crazy amount of hours in ONI - from the same publisher (which is why I bought the game). A lot of the underlying systems are exactly the same. I'd even go as far as to say this is almost clone (in a good way)... different theme and without the engineering+automation.
    If MON can do half of what ONI does, this will be one hell of a game.

    • @dadtries
      @dadtries  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You know, I've never played ONI... I'm told it's amazing though! I should get on top of that!

    • @uplinkx1126
      @uplinkx1126 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dadtries ONI has a steep learning curve. When you're a dad, you have to make a pick... you simply can't play everything. Is the reason why I never played Rimworld.
      But yeah... can't speak highly enough of ONI. Together with Kerbal Space Program it's the best game I have played in 4 decades of gaming. If you love engineering, problem solving, automation + have a lot of time to sink into it, there's simply no other game that comes close it.

    • @dadtries
      @dadtries  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ain't it the truth, man. Sounds like you get it. Games with steep learning curves are absolutely a chore but rewarding. That balance is hard to come by.

      Yeah, we had a gnarly blizzard roll through and knocked out power for a while. Honestly, it's pretty common here.
