Dadtries - The Coffin of Andy and LeyLey Review
Great video I really enjoyed it
Thank you! I've been meaning to come back and play this some more, they've done a lot since this video!
You'll get to the hook of the mystery eventually you'll get to the parts that will make you bellylaugh, and the parts that make you sad if you finish the game you'll see how big of a masterpiece it is and why people are praising it if I spoiler the end of the game to you now I will sound like an absolute insane person. please finish the game and actually roleplay, that makes the game good
That's what I keep hearing, getting there would take me the better part of a year if I played nothing else, I feel. I wanted to enjoy this game so much, it just doesn't fit my agenda at this point in my life. Putting a pin in it for when I can dedicate some real time to it.
Disco Elysium is less a game, and more like a very lengthy novel. Only you don't have the luxury of listening to it via audiobook and finding the 40 hours it demands while doing chores or driving.
Very, very good analogy. Thank you for the comment!
This game took me 4 restarts, 1 peek at a guide for spoilers on a particularly spicy die roll, and a couple sessions of not-sleepy to actually finish this game. What a weird game. One of the first where I didn't like it until the last 10 minutes and now it's one of my favourites. It doesn't look special until you have all the pieces. But in any case, if you want some more "oh god, how long was I asleep" games that I also really ended up loving: Sunless Sea, Gloomhaven, Cultist Simulator, Book of Hours, Brutal Orchestra. All very good lullabies.
Thanks for the comment! So much of me wants to press on with this title but I feel like it's all time wasted that could be spent actually enjoying something. Which is a shame, because so much of this is so well done! Thank you for the list of comparable titles, I'll be sure to avoid those, too! Appreciate your thoughts here!
@@dadtries Not sure if you've played Outer Wilds before, but it is such a randomly good 'dad' game in more ways than one. Outside of the awesome plot/world building, it's an absolutely stellar space sim. My 3/4 year old loves playing it even though he can't read.
I have not yet played Outer Wilds, but I've eyeballed it a few times. It has a No Man's Sky kind of feel to it, but with more to do on the planets. I'm 1000% sure my 5 year old would love it as well!
thanks dad 👍
My god, you're fast. Hope you're well and thank you!
Thanks for this review. I've been curious about this game since it's popped up on Steam for me twice. It looked janky, but the reviews are mostly positive... and several other reviewers on TH-cam had positive things to say. In your video, you mention better comparable titles. Outside of 7 Days To Die and State of Decay (typing of which, what's going on with the third entry?), what do you recommend, if anything? All the best. Edit: As an aside, based on the screenshots, my brain confused this with an upcoming wild looking Japanese open world alt-history game (I forgot the title).
I've been thinking on your question for about a day now and it's a harder question to answer than I originally thought. I recently picked up Days Gone on sale for like $10 and have been having fun with it here and there! Project Zomboid will always be a favorite of mine as well. Then, of course, DayZ exists as well as a flavor but will take a big time commitment. I've had a lot of fun playing that one on private servers with close groups of friends. Then, of course, you could always look into the mod world for ARMA3. The community has produced some incredible work! Really hoping we see SoD3, but yeah, I've read that it's development is shaky and it may be a while. Thank you for the comment and I hope you're well!
@@dadtries - Thanks for this thoughtful answer. It's appreciated. Ha. Can't believe Project Zomboid didn't come to mind first. I backed it almost day zero (ha) and it's slowly crawled a long way since (including through multiple scandals). I recently installed it again, along with a collections of mods, to give it a whirl (after watching a movie-length video on it). I also enjoyed Days Gone. It's a shame that, despite being successful, it fell victim to the viral "didn't meet expectations" syndrome that has now sealed many a game's fate that once existed under a faulty corporate umbrella. DayZ. The Arma mod that almost could (although it did make it all the way to the bank). I've tried it and can see how it could be fun with friends. Then again, anything can be fun with friends, which leads into... As an aside, I think "with friends" carries a lot of the load with many games. Is that enough? That's a question that may be comprised of quicksand. Back to DayZ - All this time and truck loads of money later, in what may be a hot take, it still seems like a janky beta featuring only a third of a game. Like "with friends" and now "co-op", the way devs use the term "Sandbox" has also become something of a pack mule. A handful of projects get it right, but the magic sauce is an elusive recipe (and everyone has different tastes). Mods. Add "mods" to the bad analogy. That may seems like a call back, but I actually just edited the Zomboid paragraph. I love mods, but they shouldn't be necessary to complete or fix a game. Games should stand on their own out of the metaphorical box. Shame about SoD3 development (and Bloodlines 2 and...). Fingers crossed it turns out well. All the best!
Great video it was a great review
Only just seeing this now, thanks for covering our game! (And so early after release as well!) Appreciate the honesty on the review. Difficulty was the toughest thing to balance for sure, I tried to leave it a bit in the players hand with the upgrades of whether to choose ones that result in more customers, and/or dishes that are more difficult to complete. I was wanting to put a tougher rogue-lite mode into it with a weekly 'boss' day to keep the player from getting too comfortable, but since the game didn't do so well (my fault in a lot of ways), that whole other mode was left abandoned. Thanks again though for covering it.
PS I didn't realize it at the time of posting, but also you were not gaining star rating in the game, you were stuck at 1/5 stars. Part of the requirement for more stars is more customers served per day. You were at the staff limit, but very low on customer count, which is another reason the gameplay came across as way too easy.
Thanks for checking out my video! I love covering independent developers, AAA devs have lost all sense of touch with the community. The games that come from small teams bring a lot more passion. How is development coming in Die Cook? Have there been any updates to it? I'd be happy to go back and give it another try! Have you considered lowering the price to attract more people for more feedback? I think overall you have a great concept for a game! I dare say this could thrive on the mobile platforms as well. Are you working on anything new at 157? Cheers!
Re your PS: Ohh, interesting. I guess I missed that entirely! Sounds like I indeed owe the game another visit...
@@dadtries Development wise I only really added one reasonable update to the game since your video was out. Added employee training, & shop restocking along with some other balance tweaks. It did go on sale (and will be again here soon) 20% off. I haven't really spent much time & money on marketing which has been the big problem with this game in general. If it did get popular to some extent, I'd probably return to it and flesh it out more, however the main reason it's stuck is my own lack of up front marketing and effort. So it's going to live in obscurity it seems. I agree it has potential for the mobile market. I might revisit it and port it over sometime, but it'll take some tweaking to get the UI scaled nicely for touch controls to work smoothly. As for other projects, I have not worked on anything new since this game has been released. Took a hiatus to chase other business and personal ventures this year. I do plan on returning to game development in the future, but have no rush and will end up developing at a chill pace most likely when I do. If I do a new game though, it'll be a car racing team manager game most likely. Thanks again for covering it, and keep shedding light on the little guys, we all very much appreciate it.
You make the devs Proud!, Im a beta tester for this game.
I'm glad you commented! I've been meaning to go back and play some more of this. A very unique title for sure!
@@dadtries They Have added alot more like new levels, boyancy, areodynaimics, and more!
I starved to death single player. My first run getting past both the forest and the mines. I got to the labyrinth and did not get a single piece of food for 4 floors straight! I made it to the ruins and starved to death on the first floor. It made me so pissed, I gave it a bad review on Steam just to punish them haha. I'm playing now as a vampire to make sure that doesn't happen again.
You can also turn off the need for food! I feel like you starve way too fast in the game, especially once you add in some friends, there's not usually enough to go around...
@dadtries Yup. I tried playing without hunger but it felt like I was cheating. They do seriously need to add more food for non vampire players.
@@dadtries I'm just about done with this game man. 35 hours logged, watched about every guide on here and I still have only gotten past the forest once 🙄. I'm beyond over playing the mines for the billionth time. Is it normal to take this long to get gud at this game? I have beaten all the souls games and pretty much every game I have ever tried but Barony is tuned to such a ridiculous degree, I will have to devote my life to just this one game it seems.
@@justzacc07 I like difficult games though. Loved the Dark Souls trilogy. Barony is several orders of magnitude more difficult than those games. As a vampire, I'm now dealing with never having enough mp as there are next to no potions to be found in levels and shop keeper. There's always some kind of shortage with every one of my runs and if I sit there to let mp regen, then I will start to get hungry and run out of blood vials. I can't play with other people because my Internet connection is bad.
@@j85grim4 You're very right. The game is very challenging and unforgiving. Maybe that's what makes it so appealing? Sounds like you're a glutton for virtual punishment! I see your comment about your Internet speed, too. Sorry to hear. Keep us updated if you find a nice class/build that does well solo! I'd be interested in trying it!
Aye, one of my favorite games! I would love watching another s&d video. Happy year to the channel (ik, a little late)
Hey! Thank you! I really enjoyed Slice & Dice! I think you're right, I'm due for another try! Thanks for the comment! Cheers
thanks dad 👍
Thank you! Always appreciate your comment 🤠
That's hella transparent to let us know your potential bias' fellow dad. Mad ETHICS! Reviews from a dad schedule POV are super valuable for me. Your review could be a little more structured, but it gets the point across, my wallet is gonna spit up elsewhere.
Thank you for the advice! I agree with you that I could use some structure. I try to start with simple stuff like: -did I get a review copy or did I buy it -price -developer -whatever nonsense I have written down on my notepad. That last bit there is where I need some structure ha!
Dad gamer sees dad gamer TH-cam channel. Dad gamer subs.
Thank you!
Honest review. From Dad to Dad: thanks
Thank you! I appreciate the comment!
I was able to key bind my steamdeck to work with a mix of the touch pads and the wheels to pick buttons but I'm a nerd when it comes to key binding my deck for games
We, the community, appreciate you folks. The amount of time that people such as yourself has saved me in not having to configure my own controls because of community published controls is immeasurable. Seriously, thanks!
thanks dad 👍
helmeted zombies can't bite. If you attack the body and they lose their arms they are completely harmless. You save a lot of weapon durability by attacking the body.
Oh! Even the ones with the military-style helmets?! I never thought of that! Thanks!!
Great commentary, footage, and delivery on the reviews! I also like the games you choose to review, just organically popped up a few times. My only thing i'd like to see in the future are time stamps of talking points. Looking forward to next video :D
Welcome, and thank you! I had been relying on TH-cam's automated time stamps, but I agree with you. I'll definitely be looking into manually adding time stamps as I continue to figure out what works and what people appreciate. Thank you for the feedback, it means a lot!
thanks dad 👍
Trophy husband. 😂
FYI. You comment at 1.33 about VR not adding very much to the experience, just speaks volumes that you have not tried VR (or you had a bad experience with it and didnt like it). Experiencing games in VR compared to flat screen 2d playing, is like comparing movies in color against black & white. Movies in color is so much better than black & white. i.e. Games played in VR, is so much better than flat screen / 2d gaming. Even games that were not designed for VR, that have mods made to play them in VR is soooo much better. Highly recommend you try VR gaming. Examples, play Half Life with and without VR, is night and day difference.
Good input, thank you. I do have the HTC Vive. It's the first gen from long ago, but it still gets the job done. The whole game to me just felt half-baked and gimmicky. Maybe its a completely different experience with friends in VR?
Nice video thanks
thanks dad 👍
Are you playing on Switch?
I am not. I have it on PC/Steam
Thanks
You're welcome!

It's a good time! A serious bummer about the Steam Deck currently...
@@dadtries yeah definitely, i think that’s the only thing holding me back at this point. i wanna play in bed!
Do you have the OLED? I have the Original 512GB with the anit-glare screen. The thing feels like a brick when I drop it on my face when I fall asleep mid-game. The OLED may land a little softer...
@@dadtries yeah, i got the 1TB. the colors on the OLED screen are amazing
The colors mine leaves around my eye sockets are amazing -_-
In fact, final vendetta is an example. Me an my gf beat it when I first bought it. Game was short, but I paid like 8 bucks an had a final fight experience. Lots of replay on different difficulties. Just like Capcom's hit.
I support these Indie games. The money going into these big company games like ff rebirth an remake are making these companies broke bc sales aren't what they want. They gotta make games addictive without all the overwhelming shit in these new games, an make em fun but cheap. One that comes to mind is dead to rights in the early 2000's. Fun, but they didn't break the bank.
5:25 🤣
Woops
The follower I go into the follower options and mostly have them STAY in one place. Then you don't have to worry about them. I will say though that they can be useful. I play on Legend mode only which is 100 times harder than the normal mode. The Viktor boss sequence you showed doesn't go down that way as Viktor has far more health and 1 shots you back instead. So to beat him on Legend you have to cheese him by sticking your follower in the door way on STAY. This is because if you or your follower is not in the room then the boss will reset. Then from outside the room you can shoot the boss and just keep reviving your meat shield follower as the boss knocks them down over and over. For combat if you jack up the follower's Judgement stat and give them good armor with a shield then they make an effective meatshield for the majority of the game at least. Or at least the majority that I have played. I've been liking the game, but it certainly is not a forgiving game at all. Messing up is very real and recovering from it is very hard especially if you are doing permanent death runs which is what I do. I do like though the indepth crafting, base building, and progression system. I agree the harvesting in this game sucks really bad in the beginning. Default harvest value for normal and below is 2x. Legend I play on is 1x. I've messed with 3x and truthfully that feels best. The amount of mats you need to build stuff in this game is staggering. The big bottle neck early on is branches. Everything takes branches to build. When you sometimes get 1 branch per tree or bush, it is a massive pain to get enough branches. You can convert vines to branches, but vines are also needed for rope which is the other crafting material you need almost as much as branches to make anything for the base. If they just upped the drop rate of branches in the early game then the game wouldn't feel so bad for harvesting IMHO.
You're not wrong, the game is really hard if you want it to be. I wish they would have focused more on the core of the game instead of branching out with the story. It seems like a hasty last minute addition. It's saving grace is the amount of customization you have over the game difficulty. It can be set to match just about anyone's play style or wants.
Great job dad!
Pretty good video bro
Hey, thank you!
thanks dad 👍
You're welcome! Hope you're well!
1:59 please don't tell people to play phasmo if you're gonna recommend ghost games, It is so outdated and not innovative compared to other ghost hunting games. The only reason it's so popular is cuz it was the first one. You should try out ghost Exile or demonologist or even forewarned
Thanks for the tip! Im certainly no expert on the ghost hunting game genre. I'll look into those games you mentioned! If we're comparing apples to apples here though, this game missed the mark for the genre!
@@dadtries yeah I figured it might have that's why I kind of looked up a review of the game before I went and bought it. I was going to buy it until I saw this review and a few others
Well, I'm glad you stumbled across my video! I appreciate the interaction, and I'll definitely check those titles you mentioned.

Great review Dad!
Good review. This game looks great!
Thanks! It is great! They just released yet another update as well.
Awsome vid, got bellwright on my wish list. Keep it up 👍.
Thanks!!
Love your video and description, but is it any different or better then medieval dynasty?
Thanks for the comment! I can't quite make an opinion as to if Bellwright is /better/ than Medieval Dynasty, because I haven't played Medieval Dynasty, unfortunately. I did some homework on Medieval Dynasty (watched a couple videos on it) and I'd say that the major difference is the idea that the player should be delegating in Bellwright. Doing tasks manually is tedious, so you're encouraged and rewarded by giving your "colonists" the right tools for the job and right priorities to ensure your division of labor is sufficient to sustain your population and growth. It's kind of a mix between Valheim and Rimworld. Medieval Dynasty, first of all, looks awesome. I'd say they're extremely similar. A big difference seems to be that in Medieval Dynasty, the player is just trying to continue their bloodline and facing a fear of a game over. My biggest fear in Bellwright is that the raiders are going to steal my smoked meat. Death is not a big deal in Bellwright... Curious to hear your take. Also, I did another quick video on Bellwright's progress if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/SkSi7FgKlzI/w-d-xo.html
@@dadtries well you have a subscriber and fan, thanks for this very thoughtful response. I do like more of the simulation task of personnel as a management colony sim.
Glad to hear! Hopefully I don't disappoint!
