    "Civilizations die of narcissism." That's a deep insight, and a scary statement. It really seems that we're living through the end phases of Civilization, and we're about to start a new iteration of this never ending cycle.

    Mr, Vaknin, thank you for speaking truths that people don’t want to hear or speak about.
    If we can’t face where we are in truth there is no chance for change.
    I can’t believe the level of apathy and acceptance of this horrid way of life we are currently living.
    It really as if a death wish is seizing people in the most bizarre ways and the passivity and acceptance of it is the most frightening part.
    We need medicine and an antidote fast! I think they are wisdom and love. Thank you for opening the door to that.

    I just experienced an epiphany! My narcissistic "fake spouse" took on so much of my persona. He "stole" my identity. When he gets mad at ME for disagreeing with him, he's actually mad at the "part of himself" (me) that disagreed with him. One time I said to him, "I just can't remember which coworker you're talking about. Ugh!" He yelled, "Da*n! Don't worry about it!" He took what I said WAY too literally as though I was trying to hurt him. It was awkward.

      @canesugar911 she decided not long after that day that I was no longer allowed to see my only grandchild. We were very close, and she hated it, so I was "banished" from her life. That was the breaking point for me. I told her that if she wants me to be a part of their lives in the future, let me know. From that day on, I removed myself from them. The toxicity had to stop and i was the scapegoat.

      @@pjmreesmy ex-daughter-in-law would do similar. She said I couldn’t come see MY granddaughter (her stepchild) or my grandson (her bio child) unless I texted or phoned first. However, she would never answer therefore the only way I ever saw them was if I drove there. She was constantly putting my granddaughter in ‘timeout’, meaning shut in her room for hours. My grandson was really excited when he’d see me and I don’t think she liked that. When my son and she split, she left the state without letting me say goodbye to them. Now she has completely alienated my grandson from me and my son AND my granddaughter. Something she said she would never do. It is the worst grief to be torn out of the life of a grandchild you love and for that same grandchild not to have half of their family kept from them and the love they have for the child.

      Sounds like you have a special breed! The cats I’ve known aren’t like that. In fact when I got entangled with a narcissist I kept having visions of a cat playing games with a mouse. It’s exactly how I felt. Cats definitely have very narcissistic traits. They play with mice and kill them for sport.

    • @katrionalaurenm
      @katrionalaurenm 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @krisymar1 When cats 'play' with their prey it's intended to tire them out for an easier kill, it's not for pleasure. It's strange to assign that kind of motive to an animals natural instincts to feed itself. Domestic cats may not need to eat the mouse to survive but they still have instincts.

    One destabilizing force that leads to the unraveling of empires is imperial overreach. The compulsion to conquer more peoples, to acquire more territory, outstrips the ability to maintain a healthy society within its ever-expanding borders.
    Empires rise and fall, but the one in which I live, the United States, is competing to become the most short-lived empire in history. Conquests have become wars of attrition, and an obscene amount of this country’s wealth goes to maintain these conflicts, as they enrich the defense contractors. Not only do we see imperial overreach. We also see the engines of capitalism devour any notion of governance for the good of the people. We now have governance for the benefit of a very few, whose narcissism, greed, and entitlement are bottomless.

    some of us have to be there to feed the multitudes of cats and all the other animals of nature that are hungry. we have taken up so much of their land. I for one feel I owe these animals recompense. and if this is narcissistic of me, then I'll gladly accept that judgment. I've become a person, whose idea of practicality is to feed, and tend to all creatures who hunger or need shelter. immediately around me are far more animals in dire need than there are human beings. I don't care if these creatures are cats, dogs, mice, raccoons, squirrels, chipmunks, or even skunks. all I know is that they hunger. and so, I respond. All the human wastrels I know, with their smartphones, selfies, and god knows what awful else mean nothing to me. Especially about what other creatures of nature there are of importance. a neighbour of mine seems to proudly admit he poisons and drowns any animal that dares much on his precious flowers. what am I to think of him? Is this a narcissist? a psychopath? truthfully, I don't give a good damn. I'll just continue to feed the animals around me, and can only hope, that by doing this, they'll not be desperate to go on to his yard to find Death and deliver them sustenance. Am I wrong in doing what I do? it matters little to me. My only concern is that starving bellies are filled for as long as I can fill them. What else does one, pressured by a moral compass do?
