    The battle of the £50,000 electric SUVs !
    If you want and electric 4x4 then these should. E on your shopping list, but how do they compare exactly?
    The only way to compare efficiency between electric cars is to drive them at exactly the same speed in the same conditions, so here we use an opportunity to drive the Jaguar I-PACE Audi 55 Quatrro and Tesla Model X75D.
    Which one do you prefer?

    Good to see the Jaguar do well here and the results tally with my experience. It would be interesting to see how wheel size on the iPace affects its efficiency. Ours has 22” wheels, though there is an option for a smaller wheel with a massive tyre wall on the iPace.

    Great video,thank you. The rolling circumference and the tyre pressures will affect the accuracy of the speedo as well as the distance measured. A slight variation is always detected,when comparing different cars, but tyre choice is always factor. Thanks again.

    Informative and well presented, as usual. Interesting to see the comparative data on these three cars. One point though - It looked like the jag led the convey for most of the time. This will have given the other two cars the benefit of a slipstream, even if not following bumper to bumper, so their economy will have been improved. Next time you do such a comparative drive, and I hope you will, how about rotating the order so all have the same share of leading?

    I love these 'stat-y' videos... really appeal to the EV anorak in me...!
    And, whilst I don't like SUVs - their "brick-like" styling making them vastly less efficient than a more regularly styled car / estate - I have to take my hat off to the amazing charging speed of the e-Tron...!
    In real world, hauling-ass-up-the-motorway journeys, that ability to charge faster for much longer is absolutely the way forward.
    Lets hope that battery tech makes its way on to more affordable EVs in the very near future.
    Great video... :-)

    Odometer reading differences can result from differences in how new the tyres are. Speed and distance calculated by vehicle use wheel rotation, which is based on rolling circumference of the tyres, which will decrease as the tyres wear, meaning on older tyres the speed and distance will be an overestimate.

    I just went and tried these 3 cars a few weeks ago, to compare them. To me, the Jaguar was awesome to drive and insanely fast! It felt even faster than what the stats say and the quality of the car feels really great as well! But it doesn't feel very large, if it is to be used as a family car...
    The E-tron is so unbelievably quiet and comfortable to drive and just feels like a lovely, luxurios place to spend time. It's also quite a large car so would do well as a family car, I think.
    The Model X was just appalling! I think it had something like 50.000 km. on it, but it really felt like it was falling apart when you drove it. Everything rattled and creaked, the drive was noisy, the front axles made a weird noise, it was terribly put together both inside and out, etc... I really wanted to like it, because it is a fun car with all the gadgets, the cool cabin layout, the crazy doors and so on. Also it's the largest car of the three, so again, would be a good family car. But my God, I could never live with the terrible build quality. It felt like driving an old, beat up van almost...
    Does anyone share the same experience, or was I extremly unlucky with the Model X i tried..?

    • @almac9203
      @almac9203 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tesla's are at the bottom of the JD Powers and Consumer Reports surveys because the quality is poor. Lots of technology but poorly put together. Ok to drive for a day or two but I definitely would not put down real money for one.

    • @XesserX
      @XesserX 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@almac9203 I simply can’t understand how people can bring themselves to spend that amount of money (The Model X is quite and expensive car, in my opinion) on a product that feels this terrible… Maybe I was just extra unlucky with the one i tried, but in no way did it feel like a premium product. I mean, maybe if the Model X was half the price of the E-tron, would it have been somewhat acceptable…

    There is a Norwegian ev guy on TH-cam uses special app to monitor consumption and he mentioned once that besides limiting the AC, the range mode warms up the battery to a level (over 40 degrees) where it is the most efficient but it is not good for the battery in a long term, it means it’s wearing out the battery more.
    It’s too bad I bought a Model S and the previous owner used it on range mode as I used on range mode on shorter journeys until now.😅 After 118k miles I have 191miles range 70 kw battery pack.

      75D is the lowest range X and its a heavy car. ipace and etron have 90-95kwh batteries vs tesla 75kwh so lighter, faster to charge on a home charger as the battery is 25% smaller. P100D would go much further (and cost a lot more!)

    What are your thoughts on the very fast charging of e-tron (and Porsche) in the long run? Will the batteries degrade faster than other cars?
    It seems a bit extreme and the batteries are not that different to other cars as I understand it...

    • @johncanalese588
      @johncanalese588 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s not so much about the batteries, it’s the thermal management or how well the batteries can be kept at their optimum 25-35 degC while fast charging. The Audi has an excellent system that can remove the heat effectively. They all use Lithium Ion batteries with slightly different chemistries, but e-tron and I-pace use pouch-cells whereas the MX uses thousands of smaller 18650 cylindrical cells.

    Interesting that the Audi and Jag were showing different speeds and distance travelled. Actually electric powertrain in vehicles is an older technology than ICE but younger than steam powered ones. The computer technology coupled with ok-ish but livable battery technology made the their resurgence possible. I believe much cheaper and better battery technology is going to vastly sway consumers to use EVs from now on. Sadly enough in some parts of the USA, like in my case, people are still annoyed by the use of two strokes engines ICE golf carts aroud golf courts which are just horrible by their smell. The latter is the proof that technology penetration is still patchy worldwide.
