During my holiday I used the SD card reader to transfer photos, more than 1000, and videoclips, more than 200, from my DSLR to my iPad, not to the Phone as in the video - but same procedure. I edited the videos on the iPad in iMovie. It was nice to compile and complete the travel videos from day to day. They served as a travel diary. Had the WI-FI been faster, then I could have shared them with my family back home right away. Simple explanation, although I saw another video, that this transfer from SD card to IPhone had other steps, seemed more complicated, my question WHY?
Do you know if you can import RAW files and keep them as RAW afterwards, when you export to a PC for ex?

Hi, I can only preview the small version / thumbnail… Then after importing, you can see it in full resolution. A helpful feature in the import section, if you import from an SD card where you have already imported some photos or video from, is that it shows with a green check-sign the files that are already imported on to the iPad / iPhone. You can then select the new files on the SD card to import to iPad / iPhone.

Hi! I can't say for sure, but I am 90 % sure that it will work as long as it is SD-card or Memory-Stick in an SD-card converter. Best of luck!

Good question! I never thought of it that way: from iPhone to SD card - only the other way. I'll try if I can transfer from iPhone or iPad to SD card using the cable. If anyone knows if it is possible, please let us know!
I really want to get myself one of these as it would make editing my videos so much easier! But I’ve heard so many reviews saying that this cable has only been importing photos from the SD card and not importing the videos. Has anyone had any luck with importing videos (10 minutes and longer) from this cable to their iPhone??
Hi - I've used this SD-card reader for more than two years without problems - the workflow is really simple: from camera SD card -> iPad -> iMovie app -> export and / or publish :-) I have imported many video clips at the time (20 or more each 1-4 minutes long), however I can't recall having shoot a clip longer than 10 minutes - so I can't say if that will work. I’ve been using this product for a while, however even when first using it some of my video clips will import however there’s always one or two that don’t, I click import and it just comes up with a green tick to say it’s imported however when I look its not on my camera roll like all of the other videos. Would you know what the problem could be ? I make TH-cam videos so sometimes a massive chunk of the video won’t import and my whole video will be ruined, I’d really appreciate your advice :)
Hi! Thanks for your message! The only trouble I have had in relation to importing video and photo files is that the time stamp that the camera writes on the files on the SD card is sometimes different from the actual time the photo or video was shot. When the files are then imported from the SD card to the iPhone / iPad the file is sorted on another place on the timeline in the photos app than expected - the files are not in (the real) chronological order. So maybe your camera writes another time and the file is then sorted for example to early on the timeline? I hope you find the error what ever it may be! Best of luck with your projects!

阿彰 hi! I have used the cable daily for almost a year. The white rubber on the cable turns greyish, but otherwise the cable is as new. So to me it is solid enough :-) cheers

How come when I shoot in raw and then transfer to my phone the photos come out blurry?
Hi, sorry I haven’t had that issue. Maybe if you post it on www.apple.com/shop/product/MJYT2AM/A/lightning-to-sd-card-camera-reader under ‘Questions & Answers’ will Apple provide an answer. My guess is that the blurry photos also could stem from iCloud synchronization from device to iCloud and back.

Hi, I’m sorry, I haven’t had that issue with the card reader - maybe I’m luck; the reader has worked without problems for more than a year with almost daily use. You can try formatting the SD card, but only after you’ve saved the photos from the card! - But saving the photos is probably why you want to connect it to the iPhone… Can you take it to an Apple Store? It was $29. Maybe a bit much for a cable / reader, but I have used it a lot with my DSLR camera transferring photos and making videos in iMovie.
I want to export photos from iPhone to sd card. When I insert the sd card into the phone, the photos auto populate . I select one however am unsure how to get it to the card.

Elspeth Denison hi! I'm sorry, I don't know. My guess would be that the data has to be unloaded to the phone and then it goes to cloud. But I know that when importing data from SD card to phone or iPad, you can choose the files you want, so you can import in 'waves' to make shure that cloud storage can help the phone from running put of local storage. I've done it that way with 20 GB holiday video clips. Cheers

I have looked for an option in the Photos app when I last imported photos, but I couldn't see an option to transfer to the SD card. You may also need a computer transfer to a USB Instead from the SD card make more easy and plug and USB adapter to your phone

No, the cable only lets you do one thing: transfer photos and video clips from the SD card to the iPhone or iPad. You have to import on to iPhone or iPad before you can watch the video.

Hi Eric Mark, yes, I use it almost daily on my iPad (Air 2) to complete videos of clips taken with my DSLR on SD card. I made the family summer holiday videos on the iPad with this cable and more than 125 imported DLSR clips (broken into 10 videos).

Hi! I don't know, unfortunately... I have no camera that shoots 4K other than my iPhone 7+. However, I am quite sure it will work with 4K files. I shoot full HD (1080p) on my DSLR and compile the clips on the iPhone with 4K clips shot on the iPhone (usually family-stuff). Then I export a 4K movie using iMovie in iOS. From iMovie you can also upload 4K to TH-cam. Cheers!

Can it transfer 1080p video? Every time I try to transfer 1080p video it bumps the quality down to 720p
Yes, I use it to make videos in 1080p. I import from SD card with the reader, then compile and edit the clips in iMovie, then export as 1080p to the camera roll, and then upload either directly from iMovie, or through the TH-cam Capture app.
Well I record in 1080p on my Sony camera but when I transfer the clips to my iPhone it always bumps the quality down to 720p and I don't know what to do

Hi, no I'm afraid there is no original Apple micro SD card reader to lightning - but you can use a micro-SD to SD-card size adapter, and then use this card-reader. However, it only transfers photos and videos, not music.

I found out that my camera was the problem with the videos, because when I tried to get the videos off my camera it didn’t work but when I used a different camera with the same SD card it was able to get the videos off

Hi, I have tranferred .jpg photos whit no loss in quality. The cable can also transfer photos in RAW file format. However, I don't know if they are altered (I haven't tried). Cheers

Hi, no it doesn't affect videos. I use the cable almost every day to transfer full HD video files from my DSLR to the iPad where I compile them and edit in iMovie. When the transfer is complete you get the option if you want to delete the files on the SD card. I usually don't delete them untill I am sure that I have made the final video on the iPad. Then I put the SD card into the camera again and format it to make space again. This workflow is great for me.

Hi, unfortunately not. The cable only works one way: from SD card to iPhone / iPad. It is a rather limited product, however, mine has been very stable: connected more than 300 times with more than 1000 files transferred in total. And no problems. I have heard others have problems (see comments below), but not me (luck or good product...)

How many megabytes of video will it transfer?
Hi, I’ve transferred around 4GB at one time in multiple files. I usually take a lot of small video clips, around 1-2 minutes long to then compile them to a small movie in iMovie. The largest single file I’ve transferred was 5 minutes long, around 500MB. Cheers

Hi! I usually unlock the iPhone or iPad, stay at home screen, then insert into the lightning port the card-reader with the SD already in. Then the iPhone or iPad jumps into the Photos app and shows the import section. Then I choose the clips to import. Hope it helps! All the best

Hi, I am also using the SD-card reader on an iPhone 7+. I have had no problems at all. The only suggestion I can make is that you try to format the SD in the camera - make sure to copy your files on to a computer first(!). I hope you get it working!

Yes; I use it with my iPhone 5s :-) make sure to get the newest version! (Apple has an older SD card reader cable that doesn't work with iPhone).

There is an older version of the cable that only works with iPad.
When I plug the (new version) cable into my phone (5s), I choose the import option in the standart Photos app to get the files. I hope you can make it work!
