Each sd card has a lock switch that can be enabled to protect your data. If this switch is in the locked position, your camera will not be able to write to the card.
Your sd card error might just be solved with a simple flick of a switch.

Some common memory card errors might be: card error - not formatted, card is full, card not initialized, this card cannot be used, memory card is locked, etc…..There may be different reasons why your camera is not reading your sd card.

If this method doesn't work, you may have to purchase another SD card. SD cards are fickle and sometimes they don't work, that's just the way it goes. If you can't find a way to fix your sd card error in camera, then you will want to check out the links above to SD cards that I recommend.

Shot a full wedding on 2 sd cards 90% through the wedding my cards stopped reading had 2 in my camera. Now when putting them in my computer it says "must format" I got 20% of the photos off the card before it did that. I really need this thing to work
Can you download the images to your computer with the cards still in the camera? Or copy them via WiFi?

So, I have a Canon EOS Rebel T7, and when I try to download my photos onto Canon Connect, it keeps saying my camera has no Wifi. I tried clearing all the settings, and it stills says this. It was working fine before I started letting my dad use the camera. Any ideas? I think it’s maybe the SD card something is wrong, but I’m afraid to take it out and my photos will not be there
Can you view the photos on the camera? If so, you should be fine to take the sd card out and insert it into your computer/laptop.

Could be. Do you have another device you can try the card in? Also, try another sd card in that camera to make sure it's not the camera that’s the issue.

My camera reads the sd card and sometimes it wont allow play back option , when i try to view the taken pictures it cant be seen . When i try to remove and re insert sd card it will work again , but the same issue pop up in the middle of taking pictures . And am using a cheap sd card
What camera do you have? Also, what brand and capacity sd card are you using?

IF THE LOCK SWITCH WAS EVEN SLIGHTLY, VERY SLIGHTLY in the direction of LOCKED, as happened to me, it fails to read in the camera....
hii! I don't know if you can help me with this but I bought a camera (sony dsc s650) which came with an adapter from memory stick pro duo to micro sd and I thought that the adapter will going to work to take pictures but once I put the adapter with the micro sd in the camera appears on the screen "format error", and the micro sd has just 4gb so I don't know what to do!! maybe I need to buy the original card 😿
Maybe check the camera manual to see which SD cards are compatible. If it's an older camera, maybe it only works with smaller capacity SD cards.
I left my camera in the car on accident and its cold here, im thinking thats what messed it up is there any way to fix it? 😭

@BarryCallisterPhotography I'm not sure but I have some basketball videos recorded in it and when I turned the camera on it said there were no vids, when I put it in the computer is said if couldn't find anything and said it might have been moved or deleted. But I know I didn't do either of those things. I have at lease 12 or less vids on it
@BarryCallisterPhotography then after trying to clean it with a cloth or change adapters it still didn't work. When I record with it, it works tho and saved that vid I just recorded but isn't showing me my old ones
It sounds to me like you might want to try some data recovery software. The files should still be there somewhere on the sd card. Try this Disk Drill Data Recovery Software: www.cleverfiles.com/data-recovery-software.html

Bro all of my saved files such as apps , videos and even picture are all gone in my sd card right after I restarted my phone. Do you know what's the caused of it?
I know this is only for pc users but It would be a big help for mobile users such as myself
Have you tried viewing the files on a computer? They are probably still there, only your phone is having trouble reading them after the restart.

What about formatting error
In the camera? Check the card for errors in a pc or mac.
I tried putting in a different sd card and it worked, i guess the other one doesn't have enough storage? Or maybe broken. Btw great video :)

My sony cybershot W800 suddenly says "Recovering data. Please wait." And when i take my pictures it doesn't get save and it says card error but i already tried locking and unlocking it but it still won't work...
Try another sd card. If it does the same thing with another card, then your camera is the problem. If not, then you know it's the card.
My camera only reads the SD card when it’s half way in. Any suggestions?
I'd say the card slot in your camera is damaged. Get it fixed.

I accidentally pulled out an sd card out of my MacBook without ejecting it first, and damaged my sd card, is there a chance I also damaged my MacBook, or just the sd card please help I’m so worried.
Try another SD card. That's the only way to know if the slot is damaged.

I used for the first time today (Aug 10, 2024) a new Canon 32 Card bought online eBay - and for the first time my new SX70 Canon - and for first time ever after I take one photo the message on camera reads card full so I formatted as I've done all the years - and then took 3 pictures and same message and cannot take another photo in that situation? So maybe card is not genuine?
My card is the old one and doesn't have this button at all, I have two cards and both shows the same problem in my phone , in another phone they works but doesn't show the files and both have the same issue at the same time , can you help please? Should I clean the card ? I've tried everything else but doesn't work
@@REDWOLF.55 sounds like the sd cards are old and need replacing. They're not that expensive. Just buy new ones.

Your camera might be the problem then, I'm afraid.

The computer says its downloading the pictures, and then that message pops up!!
And no one seems to know whats going on 😢
What model of camera and what type of computer? It sounds to me like your computer can't read the type of files that your camera produces, and you might need to install/update some software.

So its a trail cam I just bought today to capture a mountain lion in our yard, So when I first tried the trail camera I took the SD card out and put it in my sisters laptop ( I will get the name of it in the morning, but i know it uses windows, if that helps🤷♂️) I was able to look at a couple of pictures that I took!
It was the second round of pictures that i tried to look at that I got that message
"please update your devices settings to accept media transfers"
So I google it and there was a few people on different forums having the same issue and asking for help, but i saw no solution responses!!
Now my sister did do an update And it should be ready in a few hours, But I did see someone on one of those forums saying updating it didn't fix the issue... I guess we'll see you in the morning 🤷♂️

Are you using an sd card that is compatible with your camera? Check your camera manual. There will be a list of compatible sd cards.

Full storage on the card? The error would likely say "card is full" or something like that.
