You should always have two tarps and not in case of a catastrophic failure of the tent. It’s common sense practice to lay a tarp under the tent and then to tie a second tarp over the top of the tent to shield against moisture and precipitation.
I used to camp all the time... haven't done it for a long time now [I'm 80 !] but I remember the mishaps, the questionable products, the attempts to make things work... with a smile. No matter the issues, I loved the outdoor experience. I have some recordings of rain on a roof or tent to help me drift off the sleep. My tip is to always bring at least two extra tarps, cording and hang whatever you can off the ground, in the tent or under a trap. Our greatest McGuiver save? Worked so well we didn't have to take the car into the shop for a month.
lol u took the thought right from my mind re. duct tape… that stuff is really just life’s great band-aid, isn’t it. (Clever anecdote, btw.. suppose I’m a fairly good problem-solver, generally, but I’m afraid I prob would’ve been a bit useless on the muffler issue.. Good to know.)👍🏼☺️
I really like Andy's camera work. I love the closeups, longshots, angles and the way the camera follows Andy around as he sets up the camp, chops wood, starts the fire, preps and cooks the food, and just chilling by the fire. He does a lot of camera setups to show him working at all these tasks as well as getting beautiful shots of the woods and flora as he walks by. Very professional cinematography Andy. Well done! 😊
Went camping in Scotland in 2017 with an Amazon tent my mate assured me was waterproof. It was a 24 degree scorcher until the second we started to erect the tent. It horizontal rained for the next 2 hours. The tent filled with an 2 inches of water. Our inflatable sleeping pads were floating around inside. It was horrific! We were in the middle of nowhere, soaked to the bone and covered in midge bites…. Then the rain stopped and the sun came out. We spent an hour drying everything and the weather forecast looked perfect. The second we were done, it rained again and the same thing happened. The midges were unbelievable and we had no nets…… We gave up, packed up our sodden possessions into my tiny car and drove an hour to a remote hotel, somehow we got a room at 1am. It’s the best pint of beer and shower I’ve ever had. We were camping all of 4 hours but you’d think we’d been lost in the Andes for 2 months 😂 I lay in the shower on the floor.
I have just come across your channel and i feel so happy and at ease watching you, you're such a kind soul and you remind me a bit of my late dad, we use to go camping all the time and i havent been since he passed, but watching this video has made me feel so warm inside and you're just so chill and kind, im subscribing! :)
The best way to water proof these tents is with naphtha and a couple tubes of silicon, find a bucket or plastic container like a rubbermaid that will hold what ever it is your proofing by stuffing it in the container, it has to be big enough because you are going to put about 1-2 qt of naphtha enough to cover and fully saturate the material and not overfill out the container, then pump in the silicon tubes and stir until mixed, soak it for 10min or so and hang it out to dry for 24hrs.
I used to dissolve silicone caulk (About a third of a small tube of 100% silicone in mineral spirits. Then painted my 18.00 nylon tent with it. The mineral spirits evaporated away, the smell left with it, and it would be good for about 3 years. So, i camped out all the summer for about $6 a year. And it's comepletely legal in the US to camp in any National forest as long as you are 500 yards from water, and a half mile from a campground. Where the actual wildlife dwells.
When I go tent camping I take a 12x12 pop up tent and a 8x8 pop up tent and set the 8x8 up inside the 12x12 then I push it into a corner to give me room to step into the 12x12 zip up take off my shoes step into the 8x8 and zip up! All the rain and wind are on the 12x12 and you stay warm and dry in the 8x8! Works great! Gives you 4pm to put your supplies in the 12x12!
I know you were testing the product, but I have camped for over 50 years, with excellent equipment, and never put a tent up without a grounsheet under. Love your videos. Your cooking has inspired me. Will be adding tacos to my camping menu for sure. I love those lanterns. I have a few of them throughout my home for emergency lighting.
Even a pillock would know this stuff is shit. He’s buying cheap Chinese crap which will go straight on the bin. Let alone the footprint of the crap in manufacturing process. We should all be boycotting this crap not endorsing it.
I've been watching his videos for months now and only just found out that his name is Andy and not Kent. I presume Kent refers to the place in England then.😂
I really enjoyed watching this video. Apart from feeling like we're camping with you, your calmness is relaxing. Gonna binge watch some of your other adventures 😊
If you want to collect more water since you are putting up a tarp already, we often will put water collection at the corner of one of the tarp ends. This allows the water to drip off the tarp and into the collection device. Or if you attach a piece of string to the tarp and place it into the vessle, water will drip down the string and into the pot.
Those extra metal pieces that came with the fire pit are to allow you to raise the height of the top grill. Attach them to the side and rest the top grill on top, i assume it allows you to feed the fire. Great video as always.
@@sergiughemes4506 I have a slightly smaller rectangular one and I really like it. It makes a nice smallish fire using less wood but still very comforting and relaxing. Also, I can not bend much due to titanium rods on my spine and I put it over the top of the big fire rings in NFS campgrounds so I can easily tend my fire.
This is the first time I’ve ever seen you. What a very entertaining video and I have to say you seem like the nicest most even tempered guy I’ve ever seen, especially putting up with those conditions. You’ve made a subscriber out of me! 😊
Camping under a big tarp is a great idea, quite a few folks and families here in Alaska do it quite frequently. You combine the big tarp with your cot/tent and you should have a grand time.
You are such a delight, the sorta person it would be cool to hang with even when its shit weather! Thank you for the trials, I Iove seeing the woods of home from over here in Australia - watching you camping is almost as good as going camping Just keep being You!
i love those little lanterns. we have a store here in the US called Harbor Freight and they usually sell them for about $5 usd or $3 on sale. they had a big sale a couple months back, $1 each, so i finally decided to try them out, and after thorough testing i wish i had bought more than just 2. the only thing that would make them better would be if they had 2 or 3 different brightness settings. but $1 or even $5 each for a lantern that can work for multiple nights in rain, sleet, and snow, and over a week in sub freezing temps, and still work as intended, and without even having to replace the batteries? i'm definitely not complaining
I find watching how you set camp very relaxing. Knowing the forecast, I would get a small fire going so I wasn't caught trying to start one while it's raining and the humidity makes it more difficult. Nevermind. You just built it🔥🔥 Glad I came across your vid!
@brookieb538 Thank you very much. Beats driving in -27°C weather's in the Arctic Circle of North Sweden! I'd woken up in Scotland yesterday morning, too. Haha. Now I must get ready and continue my journey, I have noticed the strong winds rocking my truck - to which has helped my sleep! Have a great day!
I suspected the rain fly was not large enough for one and you hit on the fact that the sides didn't have a way to pull out taut and was just flapping. Plus, the tent probably wasn't well waterproofed. A coat of spray on waterproofer would probably do it, but you would think they could have done that for the price. 👍
I realize you were TESTING the tent, but in real life anticipating rain, I always pitch the tarp OVER THE TENT to make a second roof. Keeps the tent drier and don't get the loud drumming on the tent rain fly when trying to sleep.
@@attorneyreel1181 I often use a tarp over my tent if I'm even remotely expecting rain. The tarp keeps the tent dry and allows me to keep the tent dry whilst I take the tent down and pack it away.
@@sick86stang yup, just do it even if its sold waterproofed already, you never know and it would save you the hassle of waking up in puddles. Tarp over tent is also great way to save yourself a bit.
Many years go, I was active in a historical recreation group. I had a 6 foot tall circular tent - comes in handy when I was dressing in full Elizabethian gowns! Your video brought all those memories back - including camping in a storm and having 4 inches of water in said tent. Luckily, by that I had learned that little comforts like cots were worth it! Thanks for taking us along.
@@lizacrochets98 I agree with you normally, but the price has been stated for this tent - 118 pounds! For that price, I'm sure you can buy several play tents if you wanted, no doubt cheaper and cozier.
@@lizacrochets98 I had "kid tents" as a kid, which were supposed to be toys never to be used for actual camping, and they were less than half the price of this.
@@h3rpad3rpacifilis ahhh I see. I was crocheting while listening and must have missed it ! That price especially on temu is outrageous for that quality!
I think anyone using a new tent should have checked to find out if the tent is waterproofed! have seen a few ways of doing this. I am interested in buying a tent and stove for camping. If you watch the Measurements they have the round SS unit with various parts that you may either use pellets or wood. It runs about $25 with tax. It comes in a case so it is easy to keep together. It has wings for balance. I think it measures 7"x 10." I am a car camper so I picked the larger size. I have been looking for larger-sized flat stoves. They seem to be higher priced. I also saw a cast e iron unit that looks like a stew kettle. with an inside caste iron curved plate to put charcoal on. The plate is an antique, It has a square wire grate to cook on. I am sure it will fit my household # 11 caste iron. The stew pot lid would be able to put out the charcoal fire quickly in the event you needed to pack up quickly! I have looked at so many tents. Thanks very much for checking this and doing the research. want one with at least 2 rooms and I want to be able to stand up in it. I am too old (70) to crawl around. I have been checking waterproofing methods and this seems like the best! Wax is in most kitchens. Most people must have an iron!
Oh the sacrifices that are made to educate ourselves!!! Always feel for you but also love the good and the bad! At 57 years old I have had some very dodgy Walmart camping gear!!! Thank you for your service and fun!!!
My wee ideas: - tent pitching tips and tricks. (Glow in the dark tent pegs, how to use guide / guy ropes, different ways to pitch in for example rough ground or hard ground). - how to wash up & basic hygiene routine on a multiday camp. - camping gear vs non camping gear and compare the bulk for example sleeping bag vs duvet, folding bed vs camp bed and your thoughts on 'glamping' - get involved with reinassance (can't spell), some of those guys have massive canvas tents, one person had a full king size bed at an English heritage event last year 😂 - aldi centre aisle bargains if you are going for wee bargain buys.
Loving the content mate, my dad got me into this he always would watch your videoes alot lately, one after another. he wasnt fit anymore more to go camping he sadly passes at the start of this month, i since found all your videos on his laptop and have been loving them since, your so calming to sit and watch i can understand why he likked your videos so much keep up the good content mate!
Wait a second... Is this one of the RARE, simply honest people on TH-cam? Trying products and telling you how they work without also selling their integrity? I might just pass out. Well done, young man. Well done. NEW SUB for me.
Hey I just wanted to say thanks because you help me calm down when I’m feeling really anxious 😊 You have also attributed to many good nights of sleep!! So glad I discovered your channel 💜
Thanks for your sacrifice, Andy 😅! The thing that gets me with Temu and the like, is that it isn't that cheap, and you could get much better gear at Decathlon etc for the same-ish price (and actually physically see the stuff before you buy)😮
I buy some things from Temu but never anything too costly . The items I have bought are still working well . Great video & Thank You for showing Temu items . Always carry extra tarps no matter where you’re camping .
I have to say I appreciate why we all enjoy camping and going outdoors: the peacefulness of being in a forest for me makes it great. You show this off well and congratulations on that. I often find other outdoorsy channels are too quickly cut and feel they need to keep up with other styles of channels that don't fit camping culture, so well done and keep it up!
A tip: when you see condensation in the top of the tent…DONT TOUCH IT!!! Various waterproofing agents react to the touch. They’re better off left alone and eventually air-dried
Your right about that..! I remember camping when I was a kid in the boy scouts in those green canvas weird musty tents and it started raining and there was no leaks and some guy said don't touch the canvas or it'll start leaking so I just had to see about that and sure as hell drip drip drip after I touched it..
Andy I commend you for all you do for us viewers. You knew you might be in a world of hurt using that tent. Thanks for the video, I enjoy your content very much.
This is the first video I've seen from you in my recommendations and I feel like you earned a new subscriber about 10 minutes in. I don't even know why it was recommended, I'm such a city boy, I would die in a tent 😅 But your presentation is so engaging and your videography so pleasing, I have to go and see what else you do. (Also I've learnt things about camping I never would have considered on my own.) Thank you!
Idk why he wouldn’t have more ads on his video. He wasn’t cussing or anything bad. Definitely deserved more ads on the video. Was fun watching and was nice seeing you chuckle about things
i spend all day doing office work staring at a computer screen and it's like a hot bath for the soul watching your posts Andy, keep 'em coming, thank you :)
Same! I live in a 7 million person city, and there's nary a forest for like a 300 km around. These videos are like a breath of fresh air, I even bought several scandi grind knives even though I'm probably only going to use them like twice.
Great video, however watching this reminds me of why I gave up camping in tents and switched to a caravan. With its blown warm air heating, shower and every mod con, it can rain all it likes now!
Andy good vid. Your a champ to tolerate that disaster. I always cover my tent area with a tarp here in the southern U.S. Pine Cones falling and critters dropping stuff. And I always put down a ground tarp or matt. I found that TEMU stuff is usually too cheap to use with my family. Thanks for the commentary.
You make camping look so easy and relaxing. This has never been the case for me personally, unfortunately, but it was really interesting to see. Thank you mate ^^
I am laying here in bed trying not to dwell on the fact that I'm having kidney surgery tomorrow. Your videos bring me so much peace. I camp with my husband quite a bit we both love it. However, with my health situation we have not gone much this summer. Your videos are just a great escape for me and I cannot thank you enough❤❤❤
You seem like such an even tempered guy, no matter the problem. I’m in my 70’s, used to backpack in the western U.S., miss it like crazy. I now live vicariously through your treks. I appreciate the detail you include in all your videos. Thanks for being you.
Lots of tents no matter the brand tag are not suited for rain/storm conditions; and most likely not bought by hard core camping enthusiasts for that reason. Andy you did say at the outset your were curious to test the tent in rainy conditions. The tent didn't perform to your expectations. European and Asian campers who use inflatable tents appear to use a more heavy duty model and combine them with an extra large tarp and an additional ground sheet. However, as usual it was a great camp, and nice food. I have always wondered if there was an advantage to using and inflatable tent for camping in the spring/summer and if there are fine conditions I am guessing this tent would be more than adequate. If Temu were aware of the design flaws no peg out points etc I am sure they could do the modifications. Thanks to your honest review people have the opportunity to make and informed decision on how and where to spend their money. Thanks again, looking forward to the next wild camp. Cheers from Australia
I've had the wet tent experience before. It usually comes from misjudging how much ventilation the tent needs for condensation from my breath vs how much body heat I want to retain.
my dad always brought those dehumidifier bags to stuff in tent pockets, didn't eliminate it entirely but it kept it from getting worse than like a cold but not ice cold glass of water
Inexpensive kit is nearly always a compromise. I have often seen inexpensive tents covered by an equally inexpensive tarp in local drive up camps. In the past, wild camping with my family, I would set up my tarp first and assemble the tent underneath whenever it was raining, then moving it aside so that the entrance was just underneath the tarp, making it easy to go in and out, utilising both to make access to both quite seamless.
I find these vids so relaxing. I’ve only gone camping once when I was a child. I cried sooooo much because I have a huge phobia of bugs. Planning to go camping this summer, I will be bringing stuff to make sure the least amount of bugs get in the tent.
The minute you said, "Temu tent." I already knew that was not gonna end well. A lot of their products are not true to their word, in advertisement. I definitely wouldn't trust their products on a serious camping trip. Sorry you endured that, mate. ❤
Getting wet in the night is my least favorite part of camping. I have spent a lot more money than I wanted to to get the equipment that I was sure would keep me the most dry. When I first started camping, I had a tent and a thin sleeping mat. I woke up much wetter than I cared for. Then spent a little more and bought improved equipment. Still got a bit wet, but there was improvement. Over the years, I bought four tents, each better (and a little bigger) than the one before. I determined that the larger the tent, the easier to keep dry, so my last tent was big enough for four people, even though I always camped alone. I think the difference is in keeping your stuff away from the sides. Regarding your equipment, I was impressed by the knife. You used it to chop firewood, then turned around and cut up your greens for dinner, and it did great. Not sure how long an inexpensive knife like that will keep its edge, but right out of the box, it did a good job. The lantern that stayed out all night in the rain and still worked in the morning was also impressive. I don't know how many I went through, but it was the same as the tents. Each time I upgraded and spent a little more until I was finally satisfied.
The wet walls come from the people inside breathing. Condensation is a bitch, especially when camping below freezing. I sure don't miss trying to pack up a frozen tent without damaging it.
Great video... Thanks for the reviews! And thanks for the reminder that I need to weatherproof my tent! I love to just watch a fire burning... it can be so mesmerizing!
You're a better person than me. I would gave abandoned camp wayyyy sooner. Thanks for the fun video and sacrificing your dryness to let us know that Temu, like Wish, camping gear should not be on our list of must haves. 😅
Over the years, I learned all the hacks to supposedly stay dry while tenting. The last time I woke up to wet sleeping bag & tent floor I tossed my 'waterproofed' tent. Ive sworn that if & when I go camping again, it will be with a large tarp over a hammock!
Once my sister asked my dad what his least favorite camping trip was and he said it was the one where it rained the entire weekend and everything was wet and there was mud everywhere. She would later talk about camping with me where the subject of my favorite camping trip ever came up and I couldn't figure out why she was laughing when I told her it was the one where it rained and there was mud everywhere, because there were also frogs, worms, and salamanders all over the place and I had an excuse to spend an entire weekend playing in the mud.
My favorite sleep camping is a hammock w sleeping bag, with mosquito net and tarp strung over and anchored. You're off the ground, and you can cocoon against almost any weather. Never gotten wet. Sawbuck is easy to make and saves a lot of effort, and even fingers. Place your water collector where water runs off the tarp. Thanks for the video
Now I know why our explorer scout troup used rugged Army Surplus gear.Years later after the quake of 89 I felt the need for a 2 room tent we got from Sears so we could keep our 2 kitties separate from the third kitty in the event we'd need to evacuate. We tried it out on the back lawn in summer but it let in condensation big time!Next item I got like that was a patio umbrella from Ikea and I sprayed it first with sun protectant(prevents fading &sun rot!) then the water repellent spray.Wow big difference! Loved your video and your trying out products for dependability.I subscribed!
Your water repellent is probably based on those horrible FOREVER chemicals. They never degrade and are now in everything, everywhere on earth. Inside you also there are these PFOS chemicals created by the big corporations. Free ride for them eh
Watching from Australia - love your attitude about it all, always with a smile, lots of trial and error here - grateful you showed it, can't wait to delve into your other videos
If you want to collect water from rain in the Australian Infantry we used to set up our Hutchie's and from each corner tie another piece of Hutchie cord and run it down into a water bottle, instead of dripping away the cord acts like a pipe straight into the bottle. In heavy rain once in the Jungle when our platoon was out of water and couldn't get resupplied we filled the entire platoons water supply in 4 hours. That's 8 litres per man.
fortawesome1974 - when you were discharged didn't they remind you at the time that the military secrets act would still be enforceable in your civvy life ? You could be shot sir 😅
i just put this on to be some relaxing background stuff as I'm not really that interested in camping. but the quality of this video, i couldn't help but keep watching and i got really soaked up in the video, love it❤️
Shame the tent leaked. There's nothing more frustrating waking up soaked and packing away a drenched tent. If you knew then what you know now, you would have put the tent under the tarp 😆 But, it is all trial and error. Looking forward to the next episode 🤞
Never use anything you buy from anywhere without washing it, and at least a few times. There are mechanical residues and chemical residues left from the production on it. I liked the video and thought maybe it would be a good tip for you to share with the world.
I think most of the cheap online stuff is ok to use as long as you don’t expect it to last. Good as an emergency kit, or to use at a festival. It’s gear for the city camper that goes out once every few years.
Two main things I noticed about the tent was that the ventilation space at the top was too small, coupled with the inflated, bulky frame bits made the ventilation space even smaller. I don't think the tent leaked at all, I believe it was all condensation from breathing, body heat and outside temps being cooler. It's incredible how much condensation builds up from just breathing and body heat. Also, the sides not having any guide lines to keep it tight from flapping around meant all the condensation drips were going all over the place. All in all, it's an interesting concept but it missed the mark on a few places. I watched this video just to see what kind of quality Temu offered in their camp gear ~ I've looked at that camp light and stove, for the price it seemed like it was too good a deal for them. Thanks for checking them out, I'm an avid camper/hiker and love checking out this kind of stuff :-)
The budget Walmart tent I have is a similar design except it uses fiberglass rods for the frame. The issue I had was where the cloth material for the walls is sewn to the tarp bottom of the tent, the stitching holding it together was a bit sketchy. I had to Flex Seal the stitching inside and out to water proof it as best I could
I always tarp my tent. Underneath and over top. I had a tent back in the '90s that taught me that. The rain ran right down the sides of the tent and came in thru the seams where the sides are sewn to the bottom! It poured in on all 4 sides!
First time viewer. What a great review of these items. And what a great idea to get most of the stuff from Temu, something everyone is curious about! Thanks for your effort of actually using these items on video! Have a great weekend!
Always have a trusty dry place, so when you're testing stuff, if it fails like this, you got a place to dry up and collect your thoughts. I'm 80% happy about my temu buys, the cheapest car tent I bought, was impressive, the fancier, looking like a brand thing, was rubbish against the cheap, incredibly easy and better one.
I so miss hanging out by a fire at night! Growing up, every weekend and holidays i had fires out in the back yard. Friends always welcome to stop over, have a beer or four, eat than chillax! I guess ill just enjoy your calming videos! Thank you! God bless from New Hampshire USA!
I'm sorry you had to wake up. And deal with a leaking tent, you really help the people about what to buy for safety when camping, I no now that all tents are not the same ,and yes tents can leak ,that I didn't no teal you just now ,I will read a message that on a tent for now on,thank you Kent I'm learning another from watching your videos, thank you again Kent,God's blessings to you and family ❤️
Why not contact TEMU for a return of the faulty equipment then you can let us know what their customer service is like? You’d get your money back too! Thanks for sharing your expeditions. I’m a fair weather camper but would love a chance at bushcraft so love learning from you.
I've ordered various items from them and their customer service is better than Amazons. What made me switch to Temu was when I saw the identical items on Amazon for way more. Let's face it almost all of our stuff comes from China anyway
I bought some stuff from Temu for the first time earlier this month and it's like a lottery what you get. I mean you almost know that most of the stuff is just cheap rubbish, but there's always that hope you get find something decent. Thanks for the video again mate. Absolutely love your channel :)
Good stuff. I appreciate you trying different things out. Yup... open tarp camping is my preferred. Especially nice if you make a bed or bring a cot so you're up off the ground. Perfect combo. A small piece of canvas makes a good fire pit rain cover... not as flammable as nylon.
Andy, I love your videos! The turn on for me is your cooking and spliting wood. There is an art to it and you got it going on! Thank you for the info. you share. Has saved me more than once. I love all the tips you share. So cheers to you and the camping life! Be safe!
Thanks for an honest review. You might be able to salvage the tent if you spray it with water-resistant stuff. The mat I'd definitely contact them over. They may give you a temu credit. The knife was surprisingly durable. Again thanks.
You set your can under the strongest stream running off of your tarp. And put the tortilla in the pan until it starts to bubble up, then the other one, then flip it and put your cheese etc on. Then the cooked side of the first tort down and flip it to get the other side. As far as the fajita tacos, after you open them and add the sauce and stuff roll them up into burritos and they won't be such a mess to eat with food falling all over the place. Fold the bottoms before you roll. - Tips from a camping Texan
@BadgerMonkey you forgot to add, don’t over season the meat! Good steak doesn’t need that much, it overpowers the meat 😂. I cringed a bit with all the seasoning.
You have no ventilation vents, best to unzip the tent to allow some movement of air and have a seperate top sheet floating above the tent to keep the noise down for rain. This happened with the forces tents many years ago,The army poncho was good for a tent & also served as a ground sheet.
😂 Takes me back to my camping days, when everything gets damp .. light that fire please 🙈 Several decades later I spend my evenings out on my large porch .. dry .. electric blanket and duvet 😂 Love watching your vids from the comfort of the dry and warmth but fresh very fresh air 🎉

It’s the best pint of beer and shower I’ve ever had. We were camping all of 4 hours but you’d think we’d been lost in the Andes for 2 months 😂 I lay in the shower on the floor.
Oh that’s a funny story lol I love it 😂👍
Sounds like you nearly made it into the SAS. Well done.

Average British weather, lol.
I adore these rainy camping videos. There's little in this world I love more than hearing the rain hit a tent or tin roof.

When I was a kid, Dad always coated the tent with wax to make sure it didn’t leak in the rain. It worked.
That is great to know.
Works on tents made of canvas... not sure it would be very effective on the vinyl.
That’s a trick for canvas/fabric tents, probably wouldn’t work too well on vinyl or other plastic tents.
Sounds like you would have a little air space for insulation as well? Great idea!
Genius!!!! Plus if a bear wants to "unwrap" his "beef jerky", he'll have to try TWICE as hard;)
4pm?
What a great idea
You have common sense, you must be old like me.
I know you were testing the product, but I have camped for over 50 years, with excellent equipment, and never put a tent up without a grounsheet under. Love your videos. Your cooking has inspired me. If you want to collect more water since you are putting up a tarp already, we often will put water collection at the corner of one of the tarp ends. This allows the water to drip off the tarp and into the collection device. Or if you attach a piece of string to the tarp and place it into the vessle, water will drip down the string and into the pot.
Never drink water collected from the tree canopy. Animals do poop on the leafs.

Camping under a big tarp is a great idea, quite a few folks and families here in Alaska do it quite frequently. You combine the big tarp with your cot/tent and you should have a grand time.
I've heard a rumour that there are bears in Alaska. I'd rather have some masonry between me and bears. Or at least a very sturdy wooden structure.

i love those little lanterns.
we have a store here in the US called Harbor Freight and they usually sell them for about $5 usd or $3 on sale. they had a big sale a couple months back, $1 each, so i finally decided to try them out, and after thorough testing i wish i had bought more than just 2.
the only thing that would make them better would be if they had 2 or 3 different brightness settings.
but $1 or even $5 each for a lantern that can work for multiple nights in rain, sleet, and snow, and over a week in sub freezing temps, and still work as intended, and without even having to replace the batteries? i'm definitely not complaining
Harbor Freight is a dangerous place to shop!! 💸 💸 Their low prices are so tempting 😉
I find watching how you set camp very relaxing. Knowing the forecast, I would get a small fire going so I wasn't caught trying to start one while it's raining and the humidity makes it more difficult. Nevermind. You just built it🔥🔥 Glad I came across your vid!

I suspected the rain fly was not large enough for one and you hit on the fact that the sides didn't have a way to pull out taut and was just flapping. Plus, the tent probably wasn't well waterproofed. A coat of spray on waterproofer would probably do it, but you would think they could have done that for the price. 👍
For this, the tents have a roof. And in fact he has it. But he didn't put it ON the tent. He put it to the side.

I also saw a cast
e iron unit that looks like a stew kettle. with an inside caste iron curved plate to put charcoal on.
- tent pitching tips and tricks. (Glow in the dark tent pegs, how to use guide / guy ropes, different ways to pitch in for example rough ground or hard ground).
- how to wash up & basic hygiene routine on a multiday camp.
- camping gear vs non camping gear and compare the bulk for example sleeping bag vs duvet, folding bed vs camp bed and your thoughts on 'glamping'
- get involved with reinassance (can't spell), some of those guys have massive canvas tents, one person had a full king size bed at an English heritage event last year 😂
- aldi centre aisle bargains if you are going for wee bargain buys.
It's actually guy line or guy rope, not guide. 👍

A tip: when you see condensation in the top of the tent…DONT TOUCH IT!!! Various waterproofing agents react to the touch. They’re better off left alone and eventually air-dried

I set up in the dark once right on a natural spring. Woke up with an inch of water in the bottom of the tent.
Exactly.
@riosoma i wont lie, that sounds more like a you problem than a barometric misjudgement.
my dad always brought those dehumidifier bags to stuff in tent pockets, didn't eliminate it entirely but it kept it from getting worse than like a cold but not ice cold glass of water
Thank you for the great information and your commenters are also so helpful. You are so great and enjoyable to watch and listen to.
They make a weather proofing spray that works amazing on tents. I used it on an old tent of mine and it’s given me several years more use.

I've definitely had bad experiences with camping & rain!

Your landfills are full of TEMU and that’s not really OK
I had to Flex Seal the stitching inside and out to water proof it as best I could
Tiny houses have same issues so we use heat air exchangers. Amazing how much condensation a human makes.
I always tarp my tent. Underneath and over top. I had a tent back in the '90s that taught me that. The rain ran right down the sides of the tent and came in thru the seams where the sides are sewn to the bottom! It poured in on all 4 sides!
I was thinking the same thing to put the tent under his tarp he strung and his firewood too.

A woman who I used to follow here on TH-cam was buying TONS of clothes from them, and claimed that they had good CS. I was skeptical.
Yes, a company built on literal slave labor cares about your shopping experience.
All i did was leave a negative review and was given a refund
Get a can of Flex Seal and coat the bottom of the tent. I think they even have clear Flex Seal...
Thanks for the video!
Can't beat the simplicity of a tarp - look forward to the tarp bivy camp already !
Hi Andy. I love watching the food you make when camping. You should do a Camping Cook book.
I agree
