The aluminum PowerBook G4 is one of my all time favorite laptops! The only thing I dislike about them is that they are quite fragile, Easy to dent/bend.
the RAM slot problem is well-documented. run a soldering iron over the pins holding the RAM slots to the board electrically. you'll find it re-activates the second slot.
@@dosdude1 then I think I have got the late 2008, what a luck, thanks to your Catalina-Patcher it runs the (now former) latest macOS which used to be Catalina some days ago). And let me tell you that it runs like it was made for Catalina. The performance is still great for what we call "everyday use". I also own the 15" PowerBook G4 HiRes. It is a fun machine, but it is damn slow compared to any of my Intel-Macs. I mean, browsing the web either using TenFourFox, or Webkit Leopard, is way too slow. It is a PowerBook, so it's in my collection, and I use it as often I like if I have some time to spend.
I ended up selling it for about $50, I got iLife '08 from a torrent, but you can download it here: dosdude1.mooo.com/files/macstuff/iLife08.dmg If you have Leopard, though, I'd recommend iLife '09, which you can download here: dosdude1.mooo.com/files/macstuff/iLife%20'09%20Install%20DVD.dmg
rocker2118 I think these can support up to 2GB of RAM, not 100% sure though... I know they support 1.5GB at least. As for software, the latest you can run on these (and any PowerPC G4+ Mac) is Mac OS X version 10.5, Leopard.

LTech13 Don't bother, just get a pre-unibody MacBook Pro. You won't pay much more, and the performance will be much better.

Some do, but you should be good with the 2006 ATI based ones. It's the '07 and Early '08 nVidia GeForce 8600M GT based ones that have problems.
