The comparison of these bikes makes no sense whatsoever - pricing - engine size - intended market just don't even come remotely close. I'm going to compare a Honda Civic , a Ferrari , and a Mustang and a Mercedes C Class - that would make as much sense.

ANY Harley versus a VMax!?!? ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I paid $16,500 OTD with a 5 year warranty for my 2018 VMax. At the end of the day, people buy motorcycles because they are fun to ride. ***NOTHING*** beats a VMax!!! I have had many new bikes in my years including a Hayabusa, M109R, Interceptor and a couple Harleys. At the end of the day, the Harleys gave me the most, if not all, problems. They were the most expensive, worst performing, unreliable and SLOW!
As I said, I paid $16,500 OTS for my VMax, which is significantly better than what the MSRP is. You can deal on most motorcycles EXCEPT Harleys. The VMax is probably the best bike I ever owned except for my Hayabusa. I never had any trouble with either one of them and Yamaha is rated #1 in fewest reported problems.
I would NEVER EVER buy another HD. They are a great clothing company that sells lousy motorcycles.

The super serious German motorbike magazine Motorrad tested the VMax 1700 0-100kph (~ 0-60 mph) 2.7s
I never tested that with mine because to me it is irelevant.
After 20.000km (14.000 mls) my average consumption on the VMax is a bit less than 7l/100km, Maybe around 35 mpg (rough estimation on the conversion).
My favorite bike after more than 40 years on bikes is the VMax. Even the Gen 1 VMax was an exquisite and heavily underrated and misunderstood bike, but the Gen 2 (1700 cc) is on a totally different level.
Hard to imagine that someone who got used to that way of riding will ever step back to a "normal" bike.
The pure figures tell not even half the story of the sensation of riding a VMax.
Too bad it is dicontinued since 2020.

Thanks for the 0 - 60 data and for the owner feedback, I find this all very useful and valuable. I don't have any doubt someone could do a 2.7 second 0 - 60 run on the VMax. That's what I was expecting to find to be honest. But as much as I tried I couldn't find a source I could quote, so I had to play it safe. If I can find that Motorrad article I'll confirm and lock in that that time for future records. 👍 Thank you.

Man, I prefer the 5 speed on the gen 2, I can cruise at 90+ but it makes each gear so useful. I think a 6th gear would be a weak point with that power. My only complaint is the mileage vs the tank size. You are lucky to get 100 miles out of it but that is on par with the Sportster S as well. I will never sell my VMAX.....nothing in the world like it. Don't get me wrong, I also have Harley's, sport bikes, BMW GS and dirt bikes....I love em all. Tq by HD has some meaning because they run Tq at the wheel numbers thru a reducing equation to make actual engine Tq numbers
And HP is calculated using messed up Tq numbers + using engine rpm instead of wheel rpm where the Tq is measured
Do you really think a 300hp motorcycle engine could move a car like a 100hp car engine, nevermind a 300hp car engine
The 900rs is detuned from the Z900, Z900 is constantly compared and losing to zuki gsxs750(I got one)
Compare my 750 in 3rd gear to night rod(somewhat comparable to Sportster S) in 2nd gear.....the Rod will run 3000rpm to 8000 (limit9000) faster than the 750(limit 11500).........2 different kinds of engines, on the motorcycle treadmill the only way to compare is Rod in 2nd and zuki in 3rd because these gears are equal rpm to speed......but then the 750 runs up to 11500, the way to ride it for performance is running higher rpm all the time........and burning up fuel, which is how you go fast

I was one of those who owned a V-Max for a number of years and loved the rush that bike gives a rider. Anyone who rides one and survives better really know what they are doing and how to handle a powerhouse bike.

Very cool to see such a wide variety of bikes compared. I own a Triumph Trident which I use for commuting. The MPG number is pretty accurate if you don't ride like a maniac. With such variety it would be interesting to see other specs like Range between refueling and next to dragstrip (raw power comparison) a virtual road track comparison like COTA for all around performance. That's where the Triumph would really shine.

I was going to say Yes! It was still available for many years on the Yamaha USA site but after checking just now it looks like it has been dropped from the Yamaha lineup! www.yamahamotorsports.com/models.php?action=lineup&line=motorcycle

I have an Indian Scout. I upgraded tp a stage 1 Kit, modified and re-flashed the ECM and some other fuel system mods. I dyno'd at 118.54 at the rear wheel. My 0-60 is 2.99 seconds. From the factory it is qouted at 3.4 seconds. Scout cost me $12, 292. I win.

    • @BikesILike
      @BikesILike  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for the info George! Good to get the factory quoted 3.4 secs for the Scout, I couldn't find that info anywhere and had it estimated at 3.7 secs for 0 - 60. Getting it down to 2.99 secs is a nice achievement and that rear wheel HP number is also impressive. You certainly have invested wisely. 👍

The new Fatbob/Low rider s/Pan America/Sportster S are all killer bikes. I’ve always been a fan of VTwin bikes since I heard a Ducati 1099 in person and that lead me to buy a 20001 Honda RC51 which is an absolute blast to ride. With wanting to keep miles off of it and work on it I took a stroll down to HD to look at a Fatbob, which they didn’t have in stock and ended up leaving with a Low rider s. I never was a fan of HD until I saw the Pan America and Fatbob but boy let me tell you the LRS is a blast to ride. Go give anything I mentioned above a ride and you’ll become a fan as well.
