I love your first hand experience and honest reviews. I currently wear the women's freerider pro's but will definitely consider trying the RC's when I wear them out because of this video! Another fab video Tess, thanks!
An 2023 Update from me: I no longer need shoes that are high,as I wear Space Brace 2ankle braces now so they provide some added protection too. I've tried 2022 Ride Concepts TNT: Pros: they seem durable. Maxgrip sole is grippy still midsole, D3O pads laces don't tear fit is the same as FiveTen, as comfy, I have 11cm wide foot, used 44 in both, but length wise both are a bit too long, but need the 44 for the width. both fit well with Space Brace 2 ankle braces. So I can use two pairs of wool socks in both. The shoes are great to walk in, as the the ball of the foot section of the sole bends up. Seem to be best suited for spring, autumn, winter when it's not very wet, if you ride trough a deep puddle you will get soaked. But it handles few light splashes. cons: Ride Concepts don't have summer and winter shoes, but instead a allrounder, during the summer they are too warm, but they do nicely in the winter, I rode in temps as low as -10C, I staid warm, but used Mario wool socks, but as they have venting holes, don't have a gaiter they won't do well in wet snow nor very wet, heavy rain, and deep puddle rides. I needed water and windproof shoes with a gaiter, so I got size 44 Northwave Multicross Mid GTX. Pros: gaiter water and winter proof insulated I stay warm even in -5C and fog, -10C, even with wind, I probably could do -15C or -20C, I can fit 2 pairs of wool socks. laces don't tear very stiff sole. Cons: too loose at the heel area without ankle braces, foot slides up and moves around, but width is perfect with 44, other than these issues size 44 compares to RCs and FiveTen. the ball of the foot area is too stiff so hard to walk in. lacks grip despite having tall pins on my Catalyst pedals, if I don't press my foot down on the pedal, like when pedalling, it lacks grips, so when foot just rests on the pedal I can easily move it in all directions, so i notice the shoes losing grip while riding sometimes, but as long as I forece the sole into the pins they grip, but not optimal.
I rode a pair of Freeride Pros as my bike park shoe this past summer and liked them. I don't normally have an issue with shoes starting to smell but what happened to those 5.10's was other worldly. 🦨 The synthetic uppers don't breath very well. Seriously, pull the footbeds after riding and let them air out.
That was a really in-depth review and really well thought of. I think I may have to move from five ten and give RC a go, I’ve been looking for a while now but never made the switch
Thank you I am glad you found it useful! It is sometimes daunting moving away from what we know especially when they are so expensive, but I have been so impressed with RC, definitely recommend looking at them for your next pair.
Good review. I love the soles of 5-ten's but not a fan of the last / fit, especially the freerides. Picked up Shimano GR9 last year, very similar to the GR7 especially with the sole. I agree it, its a decent shoe but grip isn't great. I may have to try that RC Hellion you mentioned on my next go...
Liked and shared , thank you for your reviews really helpful with sizing , that’s the one thing i dread when buying on line , I’ve had to return items because of sizing just slightly out of what’s the norm for me . Would love a review on MTB pants , sizing & fit . Thank you 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Firstly..Great video, honest, informative and naturally beautiful. I like the info about the sizing ..I'm normally a uk 10 so what Size should I look at in the RCs?
I wish there were more high shoes, it's main reason I haven't tried other brands yet. But the perfect shoe does not seem to exist yet. Due to my width of my feet I use size 44 with fiveten and Adidas shoes, or my pinkie toe gets forced inwards, I cna use summer sock and up to two wool socks, and I can adjust the laces and shoes fit securely an d have alot of room for my toes, but actually the shoes are slightly too long I guess, but not a real issue for me, feet tend to move bit forward in shoes anyways. But the main reason I wear high versions is due to the extra protection the I get, no pedals hurting me or branches or rocks scraping me up. I've tested the Trailcross. I'd pro the gaiter is too loose for me, but sizing is the same as Freerider and the height of sole too, but shoe is more flexible when walking but as stiff otherwise. More breathable. For the gaiter I just tied the laces around it, but only had one test ride on them. They have D3O protective pads on the ankle on both sides, No waterproof version yet but a GTX version is planned Gtx means Gore Tex. Some more competition for these types of shoes would be nice.
@@MudandnomakeupMTB skyline does not go past the ankle. But inside agianst the crank goes higher up. But what I want is that it goes past ankle covers it completely. No need for a seperate protector.
@@MudandnomakeupMTB I checked out all offerings from all brands, none offered it. Great overview thanks. I love my Freeriders but have to admit they do nothing to keep out the British Winter. I might give the RCs a look next time
They keep my feet soooo much drier!

Awesome stuff! thanks for this. I am trying to move away from FiveTen because they are almost impossible to get here in New Zealand.
Definitely recommend the ride concepts!

Are the Freerider pro breathable enough in midsummer like Freerider?
Useful tips about the sizing👍cheers
Thank-you :) sizing is always difficult between different brands
