    I have the canvas freerider, and yes - its incredibly comfortable, and the pedal feel is outstanding - its almost as if I can curl my toes and grip the sides of my pedals. Ventilation is great for a fiveten - if you spread your toes, you can feel the breeze between your toes. However, there are some considerations - the toe box will not protect your toe from big impacts from the top - there's no toe reinforcement. Also, if you get the soaked, they'll stay wet for two days before drying out. Lastly, the REI tip is how I zeroed in on my freerider sizing. I got mine true to size only because I hate heel lift and can live with my toes being close to the front. If you have wider feet you'll love the Freerider - it has a room toe box, but the shoe isn't 'loose'. And yes, I cut my laces down and knotted the ends

    Thanks for the review! REI is having a big sale. I love my standard for chill rides, but I need more shock protection for gnarly rides if i choose not to clip in. So I'll try a Pro this time 🤙

    A great review, Adam thank you. Before watching your video, I did just what you said, coincidentally, and I ordered three different pair from REI. Two colors of the standard, and one pair of the pro. I’m really anxious to get a feel of each one. Then I’m gonna pick my favorite and then, compare that one with Ride Concepts, Vice model, then make my final determination. Again, thank you.

    Have you ever felt like the pro chatters/jumps around on the pedal more because of the stiffer sole? Could just be me because I’m on a hardtail.

    • @AdamMock
      @AdamMock  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Blake, I haven’t noticed that. It feels pretty planted for me. Maybe it’s because the stiffer sole isn’t as easy to curve/conform to the pedal?

  • @watertankhikes
    @watertankhikes ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you! Your comments and visuals regarding the difference in sole stiffness told me what I needed to know. Neither Adidas, the retailers, or any of the "expert review" sites provided that information. I currently have the regular Freeriders, and can feel the pedal pins right through the soles. It's okay for a short ride, but for rides of over 2 hours, it gets painful. Now my only concern is that the Pros might be too small- I already wear the largest size made in the regulars (15's), and if the Pros are any smaller, then it'll be a no-go for me.

  • @kentao4
    @kentao4 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does anyone have an opinion on the free rider pros vs free rider pro canvas?
    Im just getting into these shoes and I have an option of both that are pro models but one is that synthetic material and the other is canvas. Sounds like canvas wasn’t an option in the pro before?

    • @AdamMock
      @AdamMock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kenny, I believe the canvas Pro is the Primeblu which is made with recycled materials. I have the Primeblu and I actually liked them a little better than the more leathery standard Pro material.
      The fit of the Primeblu seemed slightly wider to me. I don’t know if that’s actually true but that’s how it felt.
      The Primeblu also seemed to be incredibly durable.

    I run the standard free riders, I’d like the extra protection of the free ride pro but you know my 90° hammer toe. Not sure if that upper toebox area is flexible enough🤷‍♂️ Looks like I might need to go to REI to see how it feels🤔

      REI is such a great place to buy and try! ✌🏼🤟🏼

  • @theros6345
    @theros6345 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You said the pros are narrower yet it was the standard ones that you had to go up a size in. Did you mean the other way round? Which ones for wider feet?

    • @AdamMock
      @AdamMock  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sorry for the confusion.
      The Freeriders feel wider, but shorter. So I went up a size in them. The Pros feel more narrow. The sizing on the length of the Pros actually feel a bit more true. When I first tried on the standard Freeriders in my size, I could feel my toe touch the tip of the shoe. I didn't feel that with the Pros. Some people may benefit from sizing up on either shoe to just get a bit more length in the toe box.
      For wider feet, the standard Freeriders have more width. Keep in mind this is when I first bought them a few years ago so sizing may have changed. But if it's the same, the Freeriders feel a bit wider. ✌🏼🤟🏼

    • @MikeNolan_Councilman
      @MikeNolan_Councilman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Really late reply, but you can use a shoe repair glue called "shoe goo" to seal over the vent hole on the pros to help seal out water. Works great if your more concerned with water proofing than venting.

    • @AdamMock
      @AdamMock  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alejandravivas801 My opinion would be the Freerider Pro. Especially for downhill. You’ll want something that is durable for possible rock strikes and if you go through puddles. The suede on the Sleuth looks great, but probably wouldn’t give you the best protection on the DH.

    I would be careful buying the new Prime Blue Freerider Pro's, something has changed in the soul, and they don't grip no where near as good as the old Five Ten Pro's, i would almost call them dangerous, as my foot would slip of the pedal so often, mine got sent back, and i still use my old version's and i have some new specialized 2F0 on the way to try.

    • @AdamMock
      @AdamMock  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had read about that in a review someone posted. I bought my Prime Blue at REI so I could return them if I found the sole to not have as much grip.
      So far, I love the Prime Blue and when I compared to sole to my Pros and classic Freeriders, I can't tell a difference in grip.
      I've also had a chance to take them down some gnarlier trails in my area and haven't had a pedal slip yet.
      I'm sorry to hear you had a different experience. I wonder if the sole issue was corrected in a running change? ✌🏼🤟🏼

    • @jonibz1456
      @jonibz1456 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AdamMock i am hoping it was just a bad batch, as i also found lots of complaints in forums. one of the slips i had caused me to crash during a jump, 3 weeks in hospital with pelvis fractures and internal bleeding, many months later i got back to riding, and put on the same shoes, they still kept slipping, serviced my pedals and changed pins, still slipped, so stuck my old five tens back on, and back to being lovely and grippy again.
      for now i will just move brands, not really because of the issue with the soul i had, it was more the way customer service dealt with it after.
